As someone who was lukewarm on TLOU, I will probably just watch a playthrough of this.

They can easily make it stand alone game like infamous festival of blood. You know it just struck me: I wonder how hard it would be to make a PS4 version of this? The PS3 version uses resources from the disc right? So if they made one for PS4 it would have to be from the ground up. Essentially then, a PS4 version would be episodic instead of DLC properly. Maybe it wouldn't work because of the way it's incorporated into the game.
Anyway, I'm just brainstorming ideas. I've always thought episodic content was an underutilized form (partly because it's too expensive). It could be a way to keep alive PS3 versions of games while transitioning them to PS4.
One more reason why I need to finish TLOU... still at WINTER.
I'm really curious about the gameplay if Ellie is going to be the main character. What is she going to be doing? If you recall, Ellie was extremely naïve at the beginning of the main campaign. She had never been outside the walls of her camp, never used a weapon and never encountered an infected before. She reacted in horror when Joel and Tess killed the first guard they encountered and her response after seeing her first clicker was that she shit her pants.
Obviously these wouldnt be appropriate reactions if she becomes a seasoned killer (or even kills one person) in the DLC campaign which is supposed to take place before the main story.
Aw man, I can already picture the ending in my head, and it's gonna be fucking soul-crushing.
Kinda wish they didn't do the comic and just did this instead. Now we already know what is going to happen verbatim.

It's been a while but I'll have to go read the comics again. I'm almost sure thatalthough she doesn't do any killing, there is definitely human and clicker deaths happening in front of Ellie.
Theyweren't as predictable with the main game, so i don't know if we should expect some Team Ico twist at all.
I would eventually like to see:
3) Ish DLC
Those visuals...ok, though they're not technically anywhere near the next-gen games that have been shown, they still somehow make the cut. I mean, you could increase the resolution to 1080p and double the framerate, and you would have a visually striking game, by every standard imaginable. Those guys at ND have top of the shelf artists...
100% agreed. Art style wins, always.Surprise, even though resolution gets talked about constantly (because it's objective and quantifiable), the "subjective" stuff like artwork and composition is way more important.
I mean the story was already fleshed out in the comics, unless they wanna fuck with their own continuity, it'll pretty much stay the same.

I haven't read them but it's weird that they would just replicate that storyline.
They could easily do a PS4 version and just have you stick in the PS3 disk al la the upgrade options if it's DLC.
I had assumed this was coming to PS4 as it was in the PS4 launch video?
Yes, it is very easy to make a PS4 game from scratch. Shit, they can probably fart it out in a weekend.

Right, firstly I own the game (Joel edition FTR).
Secondly, they have already said the tech was going to be used for their PS4 games. They would have known about PS4 for ages so no doubt have been working on getting the tech working on PS4, so it wouldn't be like building a game from scratch.
Thirdly, I just meant that if this is DLC only (ie you'd need the full LoU game to 'unlock' the ability to play the DLC and it not be 'standalone' (like the InFamous festival of blood) then it would 'just' need to use a similar checking system like the upgrade program.
i don't get why people are so fond of Ellie, she was mostly annoying to me. constant stupid non-funny "witty banter" that doesn't fit the feel of the game at all.. (i CAN'T be alone thinking this). she was definitely my least favorite character in the game which is a shame since the whole thing revolves around her. it also just felt cheap in a way.. using a kid character trying to get emotions out of players. pandering or whats the word? (english not my first language)
Ish would have been fucking amazing, or something else that wasn't as predictable as just using the same character as before. they should have taken more of a risk IMO. hell, give me a campaign with just Bill, and no sidekick to ruin the immersion with dumb jokes..
oh well i'm still getting the DLC for the hopefully awesome enemy encounters, level design, beautifully detailed visuals, music and fun gameplay. it's just that i really don't like Ellie and how she was used in the game lol.
Blasphemy.
But yeah, I loved Ellie - she's my favorite in the game. The part whereyou play as her is my favorite part in the entire game - that chapter was pretty much perfection how you went back and forth between Joel and Ellie.
That said, I think Ellie is the best character in TLOU so I may be a bit biased. Pandering? wat.
but they are just going over a story that many of us have seen already.
I'm pretty sure they aren't.
i might be wrong and they just genuinely wanted to make a little girl character, but nevertheless i felt like that during the game. i would've been more impressed if i was escorting an elderly person throughout the game and they managed to make me feel like he/she is worth fighting for (let's say Joel and his dad, that would have been so much more awesome and unique to me).. a little girl is just too damn easy and too obvious. and they try SO hard to make her a badass and non-cliche and whatever that it just comes off as.. trying too hard.
Unless they are retconning the comics, they don't have much wiggle room. Certainly not enough for me to be super interested.
That'll just give you more insight into their relationship, but this takes place after the comic. There's a gap between the ending of the comic and the start of TLoU.
Basically what SolidSnakeX said -- takes place after the comics and before the main TLOU campaign. So reading the comics, it'll give you some background on location, setting, Riley, and how they got to know each other.
Can't wait!!!
OMG @ new music by Gustavo fucking Santaolalla. His work on TLoU was fantastic.
I'm probably going to replay TLoU after finishing this DLC.
Playing as Ellie.
I'm so excited.
I'm assuming it's based on the pre-release comic that I actually just got in the mail today. Could not be better timing.
EDIT: Prequel.
Early 2014 Release.
Story from The Last of US: American Dream.
Trailer.
From PS Blog:
Yaani King (Actress of Riley)
Fantasticly sharp eye's from Mix of TLoU being spotted in PS4 promo video. I hope he's right.

If I'm overstepping my bounds by having Mix's post discovery in here, please by all means, let me know and I'll delete it.
Eh, I'm not too excited about this DLC. I would have preferred some post-end game content or a side story involving a different set of characters beyond Joel/Ellie. What makes me even less exciting for this DLC is the fact that #1 We know pretty much what is going to happen and how it will end and #2 Ellie can't shoot or kill things really.
From the main game it was made pretty apparent that Ellie never really shot a gun consistently until she met Joel, she's also never killed a person until meeting Joel either. Whether or not she kills infected is another thing but considering her small frame she would have to do it with a weapon which again would be inconsistent with the main game.
I guess I'll see.
Not sure about this timing. Not a fan of DLC that takes almost a year after the initial game to release. I wonder how many people won't be buying it simply because they no longer own or have a PS3 hooked up?

Who the hell would be stupid enough to sell a great console with a gigantic library of awesome games like the PS3 just to buy one that barely has any interesting games yet and is likely to be plagued with early-gen hardware faults? xD This is like bitching you won't be able to play Chrono Trigger because you already sold your SNES and imported the newfangled PS1 and somehow it's the dev's fault. Not sure about this timing.
