I think Sweden is generally more racist than Finland, they just have better PR. Finland doesn't hide its racist people as well, they even have their own political party, so other people can make fun of them....
All in all, I think both countries are fine places to live, even for forgeiners. There is discrimination, in both countries, no doubt in there. Personally I can't tell if Finland is more or less racist then Sweden, or for example Germany. I have seen blatant racism in all three countries, but they have been isolated incidences. Generally,I feel that these countries are good places to live.

Edit. I do have to say, some of my Sweden Finn friends are pissed how Swedish tv portraits them :D They are serious bunch, most Sweden Finns just laugh it off.

Finland's kind of cool in the summer when everyone goes mental over the warm weather and sunlight.

Now it's just cold.

Been living in Finland for three months now, love the hell out of this place. I'm not gonna start learning Finnish though, too complicated.

Finland has some great metal bands.

Children of bodom.

Fucking brilliant band.

And Nightwish. But they suck now since they kicked Anette,

CoB is eh, Insomnium, Kalmah and Swallow the Sun for life.

My Norwegian family (I'm 2nd generation U.S., but we keep in touch) doesn't care for Sweden very much. Of course, my brother is marrying a Swedish citizen.

A good friend just got back from 2 weeks in Finland and said it was great. He brought the game Mölkky back with him, which is a big hit because it can be played while holding a beer.

Ahh, reminds me of good ol' Texas. Finland should probably ditch those giant boats/rafts though.

Finland is pretty much an East Asian country that somehow found its way to Europe. That hella crowded river is just more proof of that.

beer floating is horrible happening, it's just bunch of people wanting to get drunk in the water, without thinking consequences. There is no official organizer of the happening, so there's no properly organized toilets, garbage dispatch or security.

This is what Vantaa River looks day after:

I am somehow way more interested in this than a bunch of people getting drunk on commercially produced rubber boats.

A whole freaking table and the thing that makes it float, is the thing that you sit on.. and you get to soak your legs in the water!? Too good, my brain can't handle this awesomeness.

If you want to see videos of this search YouTube for "kaljakellunta". Can't promise that they are safe for work though.

I heard Finland is (generally) racist. Is true?

Can't say if they are less or more racist than anywhere else but as a general rule I avoid saying my name unless it's necessary.
Couple times I've made up finnish names because I want to avoid confrontations because I have bad experiences.
That said I have finnish friends who are super nice.

It's not a racist party.

It's a dumb people party. And the culture of glorifying dumbness.

/ There are many reprehensible racists in it tho. Among low IQ rednecks and fundamental Christians.

Sweden for us is like what Finland is for Sweden I guess.
Where does that leave Denmark?

They even have some decent folk. It still remains as the stupid party. Hopefully the Citizen’s Initiative for Equal Marriage Law doesn't fail because of them. It's surprising that 49%% of the party was for it. Unfortunately if Soini has something to say, they will all vote no.

I've heard that Swedish people hate the shit out of Finland.

Loss of Finland is the most traumatic event in Swedish history so they like to downplay Finland in every change they get and project their own insecurities to Finnish stereotypes.

Nordic countries are irrelevant and Sweden can't deal with that after trying to be a big boy imperial power. Thus the arrogance.

The thing about Sweden, or should i say swedish men - is that they don't have any national pride, so they resort to trashtalking the neighbours instead. As a norwegian and as a swede; norwegian dudes are pretty indifferent about Sweden.

My roommate freshman year was from Finland. He keeps telling me to go with him to visit the next time he goes back. Maybe I'll get around to it one day.

I'm half Finnish and half Iranian (Don't really look like either), loads of people were staring at me when I went on holiday there. I mean, I'm dark haired and dark eyed, but overall I'm not that dark. It was a strange feeling, made me want to go home even more.

With suck you mean they have the most talented singer in the world now right?

Add me to the list of "finland seems so wacky I find it cool". Their quality of life is so unbelievable high but their traditions are so fun and somewhat medieval.I love them. Wish I could learn their funny language and just live there.

Quality of life seems to be in decline here. Better visit before it starts showing.

Well I guess it depends on the city. In Helsinki at least i think that you don't get stared at as there are already a lot of immigrants so people have started to get used to them. In somewhere more countryside sure that might happen. For example in town (about 7000 people) where I grew up (just 70km from Helsinki) aside from one turkish family that had pizza/kebab restaurant there were zero immigrants in whole town. In these kind of towns especially old people might stare you if you look different.

I'm curious, which of our traditions you mean? Burning bonfires on midsummer comes to mind when you say medieval.

Of course! Also the communal/family sauna. i've heard kids dress up in druid costumes in EASTER. I'm also under the impression than Finland doesn't have a lot of poulation density so I imagine landscape to be houses or settlements kms away from each other. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The Easter tradition is to dress as witches. It's akin to trick and treat tradition on Halloween in US.

So when you inevitably have to pee, you just whip it out and pee next to your neighbor, into the river?

What about the women?

But who dislikes them? Everybody deserves to be disliked, liked and ignored equally.

Iceland

And we might be disliked by the Faroese, depending on how well they tolerate us 'mocking' their language.

Nordics (excluding these Danish frauds) are totally awesome.

You can easily hang out with strangers on a wide scale. It's absolutely lovable.

Yep, depends where you live, but normal Finnish countryside is like that.
I live in the countryside and is amazing place to live imo, but is hard to get good internet connection if you live far away, so I'm stuck to 3g mobile connection.
