Shouldn't you guys be hounding Sony on every conceivable channel to right this? Settling for $5 third party analog caps is preposterous when you've spent $400 for a console, and your controller sticks are already flaking out.
Why is that relevant?
The Xbox controller doesn't have a 32 page thread outlining the problem with it.
I think some GAFfers have tweeted yosp. I'm more disappointed in the media outlets. They seem quick to jump on any tiny Xbox "problem".

I would just use one controller. if there is a big problem, by the time you wear out the rubber it will be too late to get a replacement under warranty.

Just noticed my left thumb stick has started to peel a little bit. Gonna have to give Sony a call. They need to sort this out.

In for 10. My pre-launch right analog is starting to get slick.
I thought about doing that too... until I realised they don't rotate.

Ignore that I misread your post. I meant I thought about rotating the analogues so that I wasn't always pressing up on the same area.
Part of me is weary about getting another one never mind another 3.

Just curious has anyone just peeled off the rubber bits to leave just the plastic of the sticks underneath and tried playing with those? Probably be worse but just curious if anyone has.

I've got that on mine too. I've noticed the rubber has smoothed out around the edges of both sticks too.

On Amazon Live Chat, just got refunded the price of a new controller. Initially they offered grip-its. Just had to offer a minimal concern that this wasn't what I wanted and they offered to refund controller price. Just in case anyone wants to do the same, here's a brief copy of the transcript:

Before I send off my special eraser edition DS4 back to Sony, i'm going to take comparison photos of what appears to be a slightly different build on the sticks between a 2nd controller recently purchased on Amazon and post them here. Might be hard to tell the difference since the packed-in controller is wearing down, but whatever.

I posted earlier, mine had no issues until about 80 hours. Currently at around 150 or so. One aggressive stick movement from actually tearing about 1/4 of the rubber off the left stick. It's barely hanging on there. Considered gluing it down. Might still do that since I've got a new controller coming from Amazon. Dunno. Might experiment with plasti-dip or some other aftermarket rubberized coating.

Amazon included tax in my refund. I have free 2 day shipping since I'm a prime member, so not sure if they would include that if you aren't. But they did factor in tax.

Yes. Enjoy their return service, mine took over two weeks and the site did not update that they received my controller until I got mine back. I'm just glad I got mine back finally though.
Edit: I can agree with the people talking about the sticks, the new one I received is much smoother than the one on the original controller.
Wanted to be preemptive amid all the posts about the thumb stick wear on the DS4.
My order just arrived:
ORB Controller Thumb Grips 4-Pack
Fitted them and played AC4, NFS & Killzone.
They fit nicely and make the sticks a little larger and overall they feel great as I have large thumbs (found the normal sticks a little too small).
The come with convex grips (shown fitted) and concave which have more dimples on them.
The concave ones aren't very good and press in when you use them as the stick itself isn't rounded underneath.
I ordered 2 packs so I can have the convex ones on each of my DS4s.
Really happy with them for £3 a pop!

Mine have the exact same difference on the sticks, the one I bought still looks new, the one that came with the ps4 looks like the sticks are slowly falling apart, I have about 20 hours of game play on both.
Mine are getting a bit loose, or should i say broken in?
I've done quite a bit of gaming in the past 2 weeks, like over 200 hours worth.. They for sure feel more loose than when i first got the system, but its to my liking, not sure how others will feel.

Mine got a bit broken in, too. Feels nice, IMO.
Talked to Amazon through their online chat thing and got $120 credit to buy two new controllers to replace the one that came from the PS4 and the one I bought individually. They literally got here in 9 hours even though I picked 2 day shipping. They even let me keep the old controllers. Amazon is awesome.

Left stick. Replacement is on the way via Amazon refund. Also, picked up some Grip-its.
