Best part of not having cable is not even knowing what shit like Duck Dynasty is.

Goddamn it feels good.

Is anyone surprised that the fine stars of Duck Dynasty are prejudiced as fuck? I wonder if the folks and A & E were caught off guard by this.

is it really that shocking that a guy whose claim to fame is 'Has a beard' is a fucking moron?

His real claim to fame is taking a hobby he did in a shed building duck calls and creating a Business worth an estimated $35 Million and a personal net worth of $15 Million..

Nobody knew who he was when he did that. His claim to "fame" in this sense is being a dumb hillbilly that people like to watch and laugh at. It's not exactly surprising he has stupid, backwards ass bigoted viewpoints. He's one step above the girls on Teen Mom.

I don't agree with what he says. However, as an American, he is entitled to freedom of speech. Not that what he said is right, but you can't say anything without offending somebody it seems.

Also, we are assuming that the magazine did not twist or misquote what he said. I mean that ever happens.

I will say this: the black family was certainly healthier in the 50s and 60s before drugs, redlining, and white flight destroyed inner cities.

My local newspaper did a Facebook post about this, and the comments are hilarious. Mostly people defending him and saying that they like him even more now. It's pretty funny how eager people are to share their racist, homophobic, and bigoted views when they get the chance.

What he said reflects poorly on A&E, the network that has signed a contract with him to record footage and heavily promote the show to 10 mil Nielsen viewers and xxx mil that subscribe to cable. They'd much rather he keeps this kind of shit to himself, but when it's made public and their name is slung through the mud too, punishment is necessary.

Yes, he's entitled to freedom of speech. But it doesn't mean he's immune to the consequences of his speech and criticism.

If that was true, why did he apologize for his remarks and not protest that he was being misquoted for the article?

Hunters knew he was, and they had already had hunting shows on the TV before. Its not as if they came out of nowhere, they have been outdoor icons for two decades now.

As for him being taken off the how... That is between him and the network.

As for apologizig...had not heard that. On a side note doesn't his son have an adopted child that is black?

YEah I'm sure GQ magazine would have been knocking on his door to target that valuable "hunter" demographic had he never been on TV. I'm just saying this guy isn't on TV because he has interesting or progressive viewpoints. He's on TV because he and his family act like clowns on a shitty, phony "reality" show. So the fact that he's not the brightest bulb isn't exactly surprising. The fact that he is a millionaire/entrepreneur doesn't exactly change that. See Donald Trump and that dope that shills Papa Johns Pizza.

And that is why they suspended him. It still does not take away the fact that he has freedom of speech.

Does that even need to be said? Of course he has freedom of speech. It's not like people are asking for him to be executed or locked up.

I don't have cable and that shit is all over anywhere they can whore out their merchandise.

But I agree with OP, it's funny how everyone picked up on the anti-gay stuff and ignored the race stuff-- probably because racism ended.

I don't think he is actually racist, just a bit ignorant of racial issues. He is definitely homophobic though, which I guess is sadly to be expected of one so old school in their religious views.

No, but people (including us) are talking about it, and people are declaring the man a racist, asshole, redneck.... Whatever just because they don't agree with him. Who are we to judge the man? What makes us any better? I don't agree with him, but who really cares what I think.

Not even you, from the sound of things. You sound like you're in a bad place.

I imagine they knew, but thought they'd given them proper media training to not vocalize their controversial opinions.

I find it surprising that A&E kicked him off the show for saying this though. Duck Dynasty's core audience is people who live and breath this "proud redneck" stereotype - sure you'll have some people getting aggravated at the man's comments, but it'd only come from people who already don't watch the show.

Show is hilarious at times but this doesn't surprise me. The bible thumping good ol boy bullshit made it feel like there was some seriously hateful shit bubbling right below the surface.

I mean for fucks sake it's a show where the only minority is some kid who looks vaguely mixed shows up in the background during certain scenes.

Not even you, from the sound of things. You sound like you're in a bad place.

I am actually in a great place but I am realistic. I am chatting on a forum. I don't expect anything I have to say to be groundbreaking or worthy of somebody's time. if I really wanted to be heard... I would seek other outlets.

You are the ones judging him. He said his peace. He did not mean to offend. He probably is wrong in some sense. But so are all of you for judging him.

I'm gonna judge a person if they say ignorant shit, regardless of intention.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
Now I don't regret not watching the show.

It seems amazing but a very large portion of America believe similar to racism being a none-issue simply because it may not be happening in front of them [read: they think racist behavior is normal behavior].

Love the persecution complex around being spouted by his supporters. Fox just had a panel on Hannity about it. Of course they do not quote the bestiality reference, nor do they spend anytime on the statement as a whole. Nope, they move directly into the persecution of Christians and freedom of speech and religion. Guess what, freedom of speech does not mean you are free from the consequences of your speech. Tough luck, Phil. Saying bigoted things tends to bite you in the ass, who knew.

Drop that noise. Didn't mean to offend, are you serious with that shit? He would have to be 100% out of tune with reality to think that linking homosexuals to bestiality wouldn't come across as offensive.

If he had said: "Allowing white women to marry black men is just a start. Just morph out from there, they will be marrying animals."

Oh, no worries he didn't mean to offend....yeah, right.

That wasn't exactly my point, my point is that living in both rural and urban areas, 90% of the people I came into contact at their core had the same issues, ideologies, messed up opinions, etc, the differences between the two aren't as great as presupposed. As to the level of backwardness between North and South Louisiana, well we have Livingston Parish down here. Ehhhh!!!

You live in Livingston Parish? My condolences if so.

So he is an ignorant fuck. Does not mean you have to get your jollies off by crucifying him. You are just playing into the bullshit. Scapegoat him for scapegoating gays. Not like it means anything since no one is talking about the real issue.

Freedom of speech works both ways.

I dont think he was misquoted considering the article had lots of paragraphs full of direct quotes.

It's easy to see now why the show is so popular with the right wing bible thumping homophobic base. Heck, the story is even on the front page of Fox News, if that tells you anything.
