Games you remember, names you don't

Not going to expect an answer but I'll ask anyway.

I want to ask about 2 games.
Boths runs on Windows (95 when I got it). Both are found on ALOT of shareware discs (those 100 games in one types). Both are windowed games, there is no fullscreen mode.

First one: It is a very primitive 3D dungeon/maze crawler. You can only turn at 90 degrees. The graphics are as if you drew them in MSPaint. There is no party, you are alone. When you see an enemy (I remember mspaint looking spider), you approach it and just slash it. I also remember treasure chests to open.

Second one: A puzzle game featuring a worm (like a earthworm). The worm moves by flipping back on it's body, not by crawling. Each level start with the worm already moving towards one direction. You can place blocks to modify it's direction. Blocks I remember are:

Stop : Forces the worm to switch direction upon hitting it.
Gravity : Changes the gravity so that the worm will move on the ceiling or back to the ground.

Objective of the game is to reach the door of the level. Name of the game definitely has "Worm" in it.

Those descriptions don't ring any bells for me, but I suggest you to have a look at this site: http://web.archive.org/web/19981205201217/http://www.winfiles.com/apps/98/games.html
This site helps a lot to find old shareware games from the mid-90s.

I dont know if anyone remembers this.

in the mid-90s there was an adventure/puzzle game for PC.

it was intentionally made so difficult that the producers claimed they'd reward with 1 million $ anyone who'd finish the game.

Provided he wrote down in detail how he solved the game's puzzles.
Since Internet wasnt widespread, I only read this info in a gaming magazine that reviewed the game

Anyone remember the games title?

I think this had to be the highest reward ever in a video game.

Probably Treasure Quest?

It appears things got controversial

I believe I remember this one game box I saw in elementary school about a hedge maze that you only had a limited amount of time to go through. Reading those instructions always made me on edge, but I never actually played it myself. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that the entire game was the maze.

I want to say it was a Baseball game for the PS2. It was also a cartoonish RPG where you made your character and selected what position he played and I want to say that the team you played for was always the underdog.

I used to love watching the characters in the game get mad because they always made the cutest face when they were mad.

(Ahem) now I will blow some shit up in Roshogun. (While I think about those cute faces)

I guess this will qualify as a game:

Late 80's -- you put in a VCR tape and got a sci-fi hawk-shaped space ship light gun where you shot glowing targets on the tape in pre-recorded missions. It even had a button on the back that dropped bombs (IIRC).

I remember the intro was a guy who stepped into a little cabinet thing and it "phased" on his shiny (gold?) armor. He was your commander and talked you through the missions.

I want to say it was "Something Hawk?"

I'm guessing it's a game for the Action Max but none of them have Hawk in the name. Here's a list of VCR games. See if any jump out at you:

http://fmvworld.com/vcr.html

I also found something called Captain Power that was a show that'd interact with the toys and there was a jet in the toy set so perhaps you're mixing it up with that?

There was some RE clone set on an alien planet ala Lost Planet that was on the PS2 I think? Played it a lot cannot remember the name.

Well, my guess would be Extermination but it took place on Earth at Antarctica. So if it's mainly infected people + snow that's making you think it's on another planet like Lost Planet that could be the one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extermination_(video_game)

First thing that came to mind. I'll try to think of other possibilities.

Have a gander through this list, there's a few potential candidates in there I think.

Thanks found it.

I need help finding out more information about what I assume was an unofficial pac-man game I played a long time ago (very early 90's) in a middle of no where restaurant/bar on a cocktail table machine while my parents ate dinner. The game had nothing to do with the traditional pac-man formula (not a maze game) but it was very similar in art style to the cut scenes from Jr. Pac-Man. I don't remember much about it but I am fairly certain it was a side scroller of sorts where Jr. Pac-Man (Pac-Man with propeller hat) was running from left to right through a forest/grave yard to find a baby pac-man. I didn't get very far in the game as I didn't understand what I was doing at the time, but I would like to see some images/videos of it again. It is not Jr. Pac-Man nor Pac-Land.

Has to be Pac-Land. Yes, it stars regular Pac-Man, but he wears a hat in that game that looks similar to Jr. Pac-Man's, and the goal of the game is to reach his wife and Baby Pac-Man at the end.

There are no other games, at least not in the arcade, that would fit your description.

It is not Pac-Land, the graphics are way off. It looked almost identical to Jr. Pac-Man's cut scenes, which are nothing like Pac-Land. I don't assume the game I played was "real" in the sense that it was an offical product. I always figured it was something hacked to have pac-man characters, kind of like how Ms. Pac-Man started out as a hacked game.

I'm super interested to know what this pac-hack is. Guessing there's no way it's anything licensed, but I don't even recall seeing anything similar to the description before and it sounds kinda cool.

I played this RPG once on the PS1 where the whole idea was that you were some chosen person who was able to exit the city's huge walls, which for years they have feared to leave it's protective shell. He also tames monsters as well. It was so fun :(

Happy new year to my favorite thread on the entire forum.

Here's one: a 360 game that I only saw video of. It may have been an action game or a horror game, not sure. The footage was of some guys on a rooftop in what appeared to be a town with a western setting, maybe with a bit of goth mixed in. It also looked fairly subpar qualitywise, and I don't recall seeing any actual gameplay.

I found it, finally. I was completely wrong and it's not a 360 game, and it's not really a western setting. It was The Secret World, which is apparently PC only, is an MMO, and I am still blown away by the girl's jump off the rooftop in this video, it looks so weirdly outdated.

I don't have time to look it up to match details but perhaps Jade Cocoon? That's my guess.

There was a game on NES where you were a robot looking guy and your life bar was actually oxygen and it ran out over time or if you got hit. You had to bomb your way through trees most of the game. You had one life and if you died it was game over from the start. Help me find it GAF.

Why do I feel like one of the bomberman games did this..?

I've been looking for a game for quite a while and haven't found it yet (at least that exact version).

Very short version for people who don't want to read the whole post:

Looking for a 2D side view tank battle game (DOS) with a cloud and a palm tree on the map. When either of those got hit they would get angry and open their eyes. When too angry, the cloud would kill a player with lightning.

The game I'm looking for is very similar to Tank Wars, but that's not it (or might be a newer version of it that I was unable to find)

I have already found (and contribute to) a thread at DOSGames.com where someone else is looking for the exact same game/update/mod.

I have already checked the following games:
* Tank Wars up to version 3.2 (maybe haven't found the newest version..?)
* Scorched Earth
* Pocket Tanks
* ...

General information about the game:
* DOS Game
* Played it on Windows 95, so it existed around 1995
* 2D side view (not top view) tank battle game
* You could only adjust power and angle of your shot (and choose weapons)
* Up to 8 (or 6?) Tanks could play at the same time
* Tanks couldn't move
* After each round, you could buy weapons (small boms, nukes, bees, ...)

As mentioned before, it's very similar to tank wars, except:
* Ground was sand instead of grass
* AI opponents had different names than in the original Tank Wars. I remember Prof. Nuke and Mr. X
* The shortcut on my PC was called TANK, though that might not mean anything

Most significant thing about the game:
* There is always a cloud in the sky
* On most (all?) maps there is a palm tree
* If the tree or the cloud got hit by a tank, they would open their eyes and get angry
* When too angry, the cloud would kill the current player with lightning
* The tree would laugh when the cloud was about to kill a player

I really hope someone here knows the game! Thanks in advance ;)

I've been looking for a game for quite a while and haven't found it yet (at least that exact version).

I think this is it, it's called Tank Blaster II, the dev's name is Axel Lauer:

There's a guy here mentioning that he's played Tank Blaster 1.51 so it's possible you've also played an earlier version of the game but the I've only been able to find screenshots of Tank Blaster II.

There was a demo of Braindead 13 which used the hedge maze section of the game and *might* have been time-limited.

There's a hell of a lot of very basic (and in some cases, BASIC!) dungeon crawl RPGs from the 80s and very early 90s. The first possibility that sprang to mind were the Steve Moraff ones, Moraff's Revenge, Moraff's World and Moraff's Dungeons of the Unforgiven. Here is the official website for those three.

Another possibility - and this is simply because it's a game name that has stuck in my head for *years*, is - deep breath - The Lumpies Of Lotis IV.

Edit: Thought of another: Ancients 1: The Deathwatch (Or the sequel, but you'd be more likely to have encountered the first given that it was shareware)

Hey, thanks for the site, that reminded me of a lot of classics, though sadly none of the ones I'm trying to find is on it haha. I remember games like Rats!, Horserace, and some crossword puzzle games though.

Thanks for the reply! Sadly, the one I played has even worse graphics than that haha. Anyway, just trying to find it for the sake of it.
I'll draw a crappy MS rendition of how it looked like:

(The graphics DID look like it's drawn in mspaint)

As a kid i was playing a game on my Commodore 64 but i cant remember the name.

You start off in a garage building your car. After that you can drive around in a city.
I dont remember much but i know you could go wash your car in the car wash.
You could drive to at least one other city by driving on the highway.

Yeah well its not much but maybe anyone knows what im talking about.

Wow thanks, you're awesome! Might be possible that I played an older version but your screenshot looks a LOT like it. The tanks, the tree and cloud, their faces, exactly as I remember. What I don't remember are those buttons to change angle and power (but that might be my memory), but the rest looks exactly like it! Thanks again

this and its "sequel," Power Pros 2008, are easily 2 of my favorite PS2 games.

Ok, I got one. It's a game for the N64, a rail shooter you only control a crosshair and it was up to 4 players. I believe there was a level that was over a football field but I'm not quite sure.

That's going to be Knife Edge: Nose Gunner, I think.

Edit: 6 long years ago someone made a very similar query and referenced a football field - turned out to be KE:NG

Thanks guys. I actually found that link but wasn't sure. I don't remember it being that fast. Ill have to track it down and play it for myself.

Alright, I've got 2 games in my mind at the moment, hopefully not repeats already in the thread, haha.

First, an SNES game. It was some sidescrolling action RPG, and by that I mean, in encounters it would play like a brawler. Story starts out as some swordsman doing a 1000 slashes for training, and then some evil or whatever kidnaps a girl, or wrecks things, can't remember exactly. What was interesting was that the over world was first person, and instead of random encounters, there was mist on the map showing enemies. In dungeons it was all sides roller though. Never got too far when I rented it, I think.

Next one is an Xbox game. Player is some blue elf guy of some sort. An acolyte or something of magic. The game centers around magic, the four elements, I think, plus light and dark. I remember because then plot was about some element being stolen I think. The game was action platformer using the different element magics as attacks or abilities. I think you also collect crystals based on each element, I believe it was to upgrade them. I just remember that what little I played was pretty fun, so knowing the title would help.

Sounds like Azurik:

edit: Dragon View looks amazing. I wish I came across that game back when it first came out, I would have loved walking around a world like that back then.

There was a scifi/dystpoian cyberpunk fps that came out on PC a few years ago. I don't think it had multiplayer, and I believe there was some flexibility in how you could play the game, like specializing in heavy weapons or stealth. If it helps I think there was a Quick Look on Giant Bomb.
