R1 : Hollow
R2: Hollow
R3: Lux

Really!!! You had Hollow winning 1. I didn't see it at all. What was it about round 1 that gave hollow the edge?
Honestly, I had lux in a sweep. That's not to say that Hollow didn't have bars, but I honestly feel that lux bars were slightly better. He didn't demolish Hollow in any capacity, Hollow definitely held his own.

Because he came out of the gates swinging. Shit was hot as hell. Making fun of Lux's diva demands and attention grabbing then the bit about smack, cut in on his calicoe performance. His energy and performance were nuts. Whereas I think Lux is a slow burner. His delivery wasn't doing much for me. Bars look dope on paper, but I don't think he had really turnt up yet. Hollow jumped in with rebuttal ability, personals, and turned a crowd that was clearly favoring Lux into one that cheered for him at the end.

Hollow won. I think it's a pretty decisive win too, though I ain't mad at anyone saying Lux won, it was a great battle.

How many of y'all in here now would actively post in the Battle Rap OT if we brought it back alive?

How you say Lux swept when he choked?
They both stumbled in different rounds. Not a choke at all.

Lux slipped in the set up for something in his 3rd which was one of his most important lines in the entire battle. That's another thing working against his 3rd. His slip up was clearer than Hollow's too, Hollow was subtler because if worked with how he was delivering at the time, but it's still a stumble. Sort of crosses the line from critique to nitpicking here though.

Hollow decisively the 1st and 2nd. I think Lux came with some shit in the 3rd, enough that it comes down to preference, but again Hollow's content takes away everything from what Lux was building.

Lux was more consistent bar-wise though, throughout the entire battle. In the 3rd Hollow had some real silly bars that could have been cut out entirely. He should've stuck strictly to personals.

Missed this completely. Never paid attention to the date, just figured it was still a few days away since the thread was under five pages. Sad.

Is there an archive?
Esch linked to it above.

Lux got in nearly 5 minutes in both his first two rounds whereas Ars cut Hollow off near the 4 minute mark in his.
You did your own count including taking away from when the crowd went crazy? It's damn near impossible to know this unless you were Ars.

I wish they had done unlimited rounds. They need to finally figure out proper scheduling so that the events do not get cut short (and light start going on).

I think time limits really need to be enforced in battle rap, badly. I mean just look at some of the battles from NOME3, those videos are hard to watch, clocking in at 50+ minutes each. Or 12 minute rounds from Chilla and Arsonal *cringe* As much as I want to hear Lux speak what he's got to say, it's for the greater good. Hollow was smart to enforce a time limit because he saw it as a weakness for Lux more than him, and last round being unlimited only helps Hollow because he's going last.

What I don't like is Ars cutting them off before they finish their line. No need for that.

Yeah. IMO 2009-10 was the peak of battle rap.

Shit is gonna continue to improve as other leagues put pressure on Smack and make the matches he can't or won't. There's plenty good shit going on now, look at how good some of these new PG dudes are.

Let's try to make the Battle Rap OT active again brehs.

I encourage anyone in this thread that wants to discuss future battles or The Culture™ to support that thread going forward.

Honestly, that's Hollow's fault since he's the one that specified the time limited. Kinda hard to factor that from Lux when the crowd stops him when he's about to go in.

The problem I have with this is that Mook summed this up in SM2 where he addressed smack as to his money demands. Why should Lux who's clearly a vet and a big draw settle for less money? That doesn't make any sense, pay me what I'm worth to this sport. Especially, since he is without no doubt and no debate a pioneer to this sport. And on top of that, he helped Hollow get his biggest draw. Even after this match, Hollow wouldn't be able to command that amount of money.
Lastly, If you don't know Lux's style you're not going to get the full brunt of it until the second listen through, or if someone writes it down for you to analyze it and that's where his genius lies.

yeah. first two are debatable but hollow won them. lux absolutely won the third though.

I'm not knocking Hollow by any stretch. Especially, the circus reference with the "clowns and fire rounds". But even then, it's bullshit because it isn't Lux's fault the crowd reacts to his bars to the point he has to stop, and that's the basic premises to what Hollow's alluding to.
The second verse for sure I got Lux. The bit with the plot and the script where he's talking about his mother was my favorite part of the battle. He murdered it!!
Then followed up talking about Queens and their rappers, and ended it with the epmd reference. Bars for sure.

I guess you can look above for my take on the first two rounds. Like I said, I'm not saying Hollow didn't bring it. This is by far his best battle, and we all know it damn well needed to be considering the level of comp that he was facing.
I wonder if we'll ever get a mook and lux 2 or mook and jones 2. Two bad mook didn't want to do it on sm2.
