The Order 1886: New screenshot found on SSM website!

Why is Sony being so cagey with all of their games? I don't remember them being this secretive before. Like...we literally have no idea what most of their internal teams are doing. Driveclub, Infamous, and The Order, and then....nothing. Well, Uncharted, but who knows when that's coming. I still have no clue what The Order even is. If it's just a third-person shooter...that'll be pretty disappointing.

Couldn't they have diversified some of these characters? It's like three of the same dude and their female equivalent busting through the door here.

They're in an order of knights... They have a dress code.

Bravo to RAD for not trying to 'make each character look unique' - you end up with an incohesive aesthetic. See: Assassin Creed 4's character design.

I'm really excited about the setting. London has some absolutely stunning buildings and if they make a good go at the 1886 setting I think it could be really amazing. Quite hyped for this game.

Not for me, some of the best games ever are third person shooters. It's a great genre if done right.

The game was announced as a linear third person shooter from day 1. I don't know why people don't seem to know that.

It's cool huh? In stark contrast to the PS3 generation.

We don't know anything about the majority of their first party studios, and that's not even taking into account developers they might be partnering with.

So excited,

They can certainly be done well, but even if they're done well it's a fairly established genre. Something new would be more interesting. I just don't feel engaged when I'm shooting anymore. Like...if it's a 'hold left trigger press right trigger' game, then that seems a little boring. The same way that Titanfall, although it seems cool and all, is still just a shooter with more agility and vertical mobility.

I fthis can convert the awesome "feel" of God of War into a third person shooter, this should play amazingly.

It's what Gears of War really really nailed. The gunplay and general movement. Hope this can do that same.

TLOU took me more than 20+ hours. I also explored quite extensively.
It's pretty interesting that you can speedrun the game in less than 4 hours pretty easily just by running through most areas and skipping encounters. Really shows how much of the game is designed in a way that trusts the player to create a good and lengthy experience himself.

So excited,

I was excited last February when they kicked off the new generation...but now I just feel impatient.

What should it be then? To me, if it has great gunplay and good, varied combat scenarios set in that awesome looking world, I'm game.

A good game is a good game, regardless of the genre. Mario 3D World is still 'just a platform game', but it's a damn good one. I just want good games, wether or not the genre is established or not is irrelevant to me.

I'm really excited about the weapons. Electricity guns, thermite grenades, it really sounds like they're making Insomniac style weapons with Gears style shooting, with a serious, awesome setting and highly destructible environments. Such a great and promising combo.

I completely forgot why I started doing this when I was halfway through.

Oh well.

I remember them saying it's an action adventure game with shooting elements. Which, to me, sounded like shooting might not be the main gameplay mechanic.

That's certainly a valid approach, but I'd rather play as many different games as possible rather than great games that all feel very similar. Time is limited, so I would prefer something new.

It makes sense. Last gen they got blasted for announcing game and then taking their sweet time to release them. Now they seem to be trying to wait to as close as launch as they can.

Furthermore, it makes sense from a business sense. Why announce anything right now when PS4 is still selling out? Wait till sales start slowing and then get the hype train going to get them back up. It's obvious they've had a trailer for The Order ready for a while now, they're just waiting for the right time.

Fair enough. I play tons of indies as they often feel fresh or like games I grew up with, but in the end it all boils down to whether or not it's good, which is more important to me than new. I don't even play that many shooters, but I do like me a good one. Though the setting and crazy weaponry do go a long way for me in making it different to other third person shooters on the market. Having said that, I really hope we get a good look at the game in action soon.

Very few games can maintain their pacing and variety over 15+ hours. I'd much rather The Order was more tightly paced and coming in at 10-12 hours. However, I also hope there are some areas which aren't linear corridors, which could throw the notion of a set time out of the window. Maybe you can return to The Order's headquarters for some scouting and optional content between missions or something. No doubt it would either be an underground location underneath London, or a Stately Home in the English countryside.

True about pacing. I should have said the median range was 14-16 for most with a built-in flexibility to explore outside of the main story. This allows both speed runners to finish it in less time and ODC players to finish it in 20+. :D

I don't know if this is old news for this thread, but it got me ultra excited to see this game in action.

The Uncharted 2 gameplay reveal is the best debut ever IMO. If that's what RAD was shooting for, then it'll definitely be worth the wait.

Now I'm even more hyped. I was wondering whether or not Ready At Dawn would be able to achieve UC2 E3 demo excitement

That U2 E3 reveal demo blew me away and even when I played it myself. Normally when I see something from a video once and then play it, it robs me the "tingly" feelings from the first time but not U2. That scene was that good. Gave me goosebumps.

If The Order can do that....no words.

dofry

That's "Dr." dofry to you.
I don't know exactly why I'm so interested in the game, but it might just be the sideburns and mustaches. They make the characters look so cool. Gentlemen but kickass gentlemen.

Can I only be excited for a game due to its mustache depiction?

The only type of multiplayer I'd be okay with for this game would be co-op.

Seems like that's most of GAF's opinion for The Order. I remember one time reading that Sony releases some games as being similar to their competitors like All Stars and Smash Bros. I feel like Sony would push for competitive in a game like this so they can have a Gears of War like experience on their system. I'm not saying anything about copy cats or anything btw. If not in the first game, I do expect a competitive aspect in the second Order game.

Couldn't agree more. There are enough subtle details to indicate they have poured enough love and attention on these characters. I'm dumfounded by the "uninspired character design" comments.
