I think we ended at the perfect level of extra content.

Hero Mode SOUNDS great, but Odin Sphere has taught me that playing the exact same game five times starts to wear pretty thin.

I'm fine with having missed the voice acting too. Better to have no voices than poorly done voices if they didn't have enough to hire top talent. I can live with old school text boxes and leaving it to imagination.

So has it been confirmed that if you pledge through Paypal [since I missed the Kickstarter, I had thought I had another day or so] that you're entitled to the backer rewards [the DLC costumes]?

But Ys Origin taught me it can be awesome!


Really though, I think extra characters are something could easily be DLC so whatevs there.

That's a great idea, why don't you suggest it on the Kickstarter comments?

For the record, I'm super happy with Risky Mode, I just think that at five characters and five stories, it might start to overstay the concept's welcome. Although I'm certainly willing to see how they pull it off if it gets funded or becomes DLC later on, I'm just not super disappointed that they didn't get that far today.

This always happens. Every time. People probably find it more exciting to pledge during the final moments.

It's not always just people pledging last minute, either. It's also people watching livestreams and raising their pledge levels.

Honestly, the only character from Hero Mode that I am interested in playing as is Rottytops. Never thought Bolo or Sky were all that memorable, so I'm surprised they are giving them a fair shot at all.

Congrats to Wayforward. Had doubts that they would reach 700K a few days ago and now they made 800K+.
That end sprint was quite impressive.

They have several months to reach 900K. And they need less than 90.000. Can be done even if Paypal pledges will be far slower.

Ah, they mentioned this when they were livestreaming. Use the very top Donate button on this page which is a custom donation option. Add the amount you want to add. Use the "leave special instructions to the seller" button and explain that you're adding to your Kickstarter pledge and mention what tier you're bumping yourself up to (if applicable), and then send them an e-mail at support@wayforward.com also explaining what you're doing, leaving relevant information for both your PayPal and Kickstarter accounts so they can tie it all together on their end. They said this would be easiest for them if your PayPal and Kickstarter accounts are tied to the same e-mail.

I think that was the gist of it.

Yeah, that's really unfortunate. Hopefully the game will sell enough to convince them to release the remaining stretch goals as DLCs.

Hello all of our wonderful Shantaerians and Tinkerbackers! We thought we would give you guys and girls an update on all of the goings on here at WayForward since the Kickstarter campaign ended last week:

The Crunchyroll Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Fan Art contest has come to a close! The winners were selected and we'll be sending their prizes out as soon as we can. Here's the Grand Prize winning entry from user 1127066:

There were tons of amazing entries so if you haven't already, stop in and check them out!

Our PayPal Store now updates the PayPal Total automatically! It currently does this every 15 minutes so you can keep your stretch goal nail-biting to 15 minute intervals ;)

By popular request we have added an option to our PayPal Store that allows backers to manually enter a pledge amount. This option is not attached to any particular reward, so we recommend using it only for upping your existing pledge. Or simply for donating out of the kindness of your heart ^_^

We should receive the Kickstarter funds in the next few weeks. At that time we will begin contacting all KS and PayPal backers to discern who has made multiple pledges and if/how they would like them consolidated. That will let us know how many of the limited quantity reward tiers ($350 and above) are left and we will then add the remaining stock to the PayPal store. So if you are still interested in getting your art (or face) in the game, don't worry we haven't forgotten you ^_^

We are in the process of redesigning our entire website O.O When it is finished it will include a Kickstarter Forum that will be a dedicated location for all future updates and also where we conduct our voting and any other fun Half-Genie hijinks :p And best of all, this allows our amazing community an area to continue chatting away about all things Shantae!

And don't think for a second we've stopped the hype train now that the campaign is over. We have been hard at work on interviews and promotional materials to make sure everyone hears about Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. We want to hit those Stretch Goals!

Too Good! I really wish we'd see more games go with 90s anime art styles too, rather than all trying to look like modern overly-simple flash art. :-/ I always felt like those Visual-novel style arts were so full of detail and style.

Other than Cosmic Star Heroine, I can't think of many games that make a legit attempt at this in the Kickstarter Realm...

Edit: Hmm, I might even like their Satoshi Urushihara-ish Shiny Variant More:

Too much Pokemon. Even Shantae fanart now comes in shiny variants. That said, the fake 80s artwork is nice.

Looking through that thread really makes me wish all those fanarts would be bundled in an officially sanctioned "fan art album" PDF. It's such a waste letting them rot away in some subforum.

I stream, you stream, we all stream for Live Stream...ing! That's right, WayForwardTV is back tomorrow night, October 17th at 6:00PM PST, with another evening of Live Streaming with "Retro Night". WayForward Game Directors Jeff Luke, Adam Tierney, Tomm Hulett, and James Montagna are back and will be playing and discussing some of the classic games that have inspired past (and possibly future) WayForward titles! Update 41: This is the Spooky Update

The new website redesign is coming along nicely and we're super stoked about it. We hope to have it live in a few weeks and then the real fun can begin! We don't want to oversell it or anything, but in our unbiased opinion it will be the greatest website in the history of the internet. Fact.

We have received our final list of Kickstarter backers and begun the arduous task of collating all of the data. Who knew that 18,558 backers was so many people? I mean, we knew it was a lot, but it's like, A LOT a lot. And that's not counting the PayPal backers O.O We expect to send out emails to all backers (both Kickstarter and PayPal) in the next week or two to determine who has pledged multiple times and on which sites. Once we have gathered that info we will confirm that the proper accounts are connected on our end and then confirm those backers' desired reward tiers and combine their pledges accordingly.

Once all current pledges are combined we will have accurate quantities for the remaining limited reward tiers ($350 and above) and put those rewards on the PayPal store. So for those of you who have been asking, we'll let you all know very soon (thanks for your patience ^_^)

This will likely be a slow process so bear with us and don't panic if you don't receive an email at 12:01am on Monday. Hah. I was just thinking about this game and whether the Paypal total had progressed any and now I see this was bumped up with the same concern.

More importantly but not strictly relevant to this thread: what the hell's going on with Pirate's Curse? Haven't heard anything new about it for quite some time.

I showed this to my girlfriend a few weeks back because she brought up how much she loved Shantae back when she was growing up and she was immediately sold on this new version. We missed out on the KS, but I'll definitely get her a copy of this when it's officially released!
