$99 New 3DS Black Friday Deal

I've got a Target a block away from me, so I'll walk over once they're opening tomorrow and try my luck. (I've got $65 in credit there, so I don't want to go the Amazon route.) I'm so frustrated over how Nintendo has handled this that I'm not going to stress.

My pink original 3DS is still doing just fine, so if I don't upgrade, I don't upgrade.

Just a reminder for folks who aren't lucky enough to get this deal: Gamestop is selling refurbished 3DS XL's online for $160 (not a black friday sale, it's year-round), which is still a fair price IMO.

I went with a white one because I think those colorful buttons stand out a lot better on white.

That's a fair point, but I had a white DS (the original one) and it got more brown over time and it really showed up on the white shell, I'm just gonna get the black one to avoid that this time.

Preordered for my seven year old. Do the Pokémon games require advanced reading skills? Which one should I get for him? Any other game recommendations appreciated!

Excuse the ignorant question - and I did try to research a bit - why is this such a hot deal?

How much is the New 3DS normally? The other thing I find odd is that, iirc, everyone was all about the XL over the normal size for the OG 3DS.

What am I missing?

It's a hot deal because it's $50 off it's normal price.

Allegedly (based on some reddit posts that got their hands on this bundle early) it comes with a firmware that's exploitable. I don't know enough about 3DS homebrew to give any more detail, though.

Yea currently you need another 3DS on CFW to exploit it though. But apparently there's a new hack due out within the next month or so that won't require an additional 3DS

I think they are 179 for normal and 199 for the xl.

the n3DS (standard size, which is what this is) is normally $150+. And the black model has never been available in the U.S. before.

The normal price is 150 but more importantly this is the first time a black N3DS has been released here.

Pre-ordered a black one for my son, thanks for the heads up! I'll breath a sigh of relief when it ships though, seeing this on the frontpage of slickdeals isn't encouraging...

I went with white. My white DS Lite still looks clean enough after all these years.

Also I guess this means I need a new 3DS case. My OG one fit in my old DS Lite case, and this one seems to be a tad bigger.

I just preordered the black one. Probably a noob question but is it true that this color doesn't turn yellowish with time?

I had a white DS lite for years and never had a problem with it becoming yellow or discolored over time. I think nintendo learned that lesson after the SNES.

To anyone interested: Nintendo sells refurbished AC Adapters for $5 plus shipping.

Not sure why you'd go for that when Nintendo themselves offer refurbished New Nintendo 3DS XLs for just $10 more in both red and black.

Oh my gosh, got the black one. I was so worried it was going to be tough to get. You think this is a mistake? It seems so odd just throwing it up the day before Thanksgiving. Fingers crossed it doesn't get canceled.

Hmm how could they still be in stock? I highly doubt they have enough stock to still be able to fulfill preorders. Of course, I am only guessing but still.

edit: didnt know the white sold out. well there goes my theory

What am I missing?

OG 3DS was a very flawed piece of hardware. The battery life was pitiful, and the viewing angles for the 3D were very limited. The original XL offered pretty significant improvements in both these areas. Once it debuted, the original 3DS became the objectively worse option. As far as I know, there are no huge disparities between the New 3DS and N3DSXL that make one significantly better than the other, so now the people who prefer more compact handhelds can comfortably choose the smaller 3DS without without compromising on battery life, 3D, etc.

Hope y'all are ready for these impending cancelations

Honest question - when has Amazon ever put up a pre-order for something and then not being able to physically honor it? I can literally only think of one time I've seen or heard of it happening in the ~18 years I've been shopping there. Fuckups followed by cancellations happen a lot at other places, but I can't think of a time it's happened with Amazon except for one time that was specifically an issue on the manufacturer side of things. And given that it's Amazon their stock selling out in an hour or so on this sounds right TBH.

Absolute worst case I guarantee we'll get giftcard/credits as compensation if this was a fuckup, so it's still a win there even in that case.

I ended up pre-ordering it from Amazon.

I honestly don't feel like killing myself tomorrow trying to find one.

I've just done the same thing (going with the black color), with 2-day shipping. I was going to go through Toys 'R Us at 9:00 PM later to do so, but then I went through Amazon & saw that it was available for pre-order now.

If anyone else hasn't, I suggest that you do so now. I have a feeling that these things are gonna sell out quick.
