$99 New 3DS Black Friday Deal

LOL at the screen essays.

At the end of the day you won't notice the difference because both materials are terrible and the resolution is horrible.

Just enjoy the awesome games and spare yourself from all this worrying.

My black 3DS isn't coming until Monday, but the easiest way for me to determine if the screen is IPS is to tilt the screen at a pretty extreme angle and check if it is still visible, like this:

I've had a TN animal crossing 3DS before and the screen was not readable at all at this angle.

Also, here's another comparison picture I took between XLs from a topic a while back:
because we all play our 3DSes at that angle

Pretty much this. These screens are ancient technology dating back to Palm Pilots for fucks sake. Let's just hope the Switch isn't a mess of screen types like this and has one good screen.

It's fairly sleazy of Nintendo to do this to customers in the first place.

Aaaactually the best way to tell the difference is to sprinkle toilet water on it the screen if it soaks in then it's ips if it slides right off then it's tn everyone knows this

So would I be correct in assuming that this deal is dead and over and I'll have to wait until the Switch comes out for $99 3dses to become a thing again?

edit - grammar

My white new 3DS is dual TN, not that it matters to me since my 3DS XL (not new) is also dual TN.

The new 3DS screen does seem to be far improved though, brighter screen, less ghosting, and richer colors, and yes auto brightness is amazing.

Mostly was one screen having a blue tint while the other one was yellow. Both of mine where perfect but my mother in law had two different tints. Was jarring.

I was so sad when my DS lite died, but I perma borrowed a now untouched one from a family member. I love this little warm tinted pastel pink DS now. The saturation difference does wonders.

Nintendo handheld QA differences are definitely nothing new. I'm a little worried about it come Switch time, but having a single screen should minimize it.

Has anybody here had issues transferring data over? I bought a 128gb micro SD card that I know will work once its formatted. Using a PC I moved my games over and, when inserted, the 3DS does read the card, but none of my games show up.

Any ideas?

I bet the new switch screens will basically be IPS LED Backlit LCD screens.

Of course, if Nintendo does something like do OLED screens for some batches, then yes, the lottery disaster will continue the next gen.

Would you think of selling to to another gaffer who couldn't get one? Like me? My friend has been looking for one but they got out of stock way too fast for him to find one, so now we are looking for one from anyone who doesn't want it
Maybe. It depends, since I'd rather not do payments over ebay, so I'd rather sell it local if I don't return it.

Did you do the data transfer? You gotta connect online to do it.

The games are locked to your old 3DS. It isn't just Drag and drop.

honestly I was kinda bummed with the dual TN screens at first, but then I turned off the god-awful auto brightness and cranked it to 5 and the screens are BEAUTIFUL. I'm a very happy chappy.

The best reason to prefer the ips panels is that they actually have much faster pixel response times (lots of misinformation about this online, because historically TN had faster response times, just not the ones going into the 3dses)

So for example NES and SNES and games with dark lines in their scrolling backgrounds won't blur and dim the whole screen everytime you move your character forward (like say a ghost house in super mario world). But you can see the same blurred motion in every game once you know what to look for.

Black one was up for "preorder" on WalMart.com just now, I managed to add it to my cart, but it "sold out" before I had a chance to do anything with it. Now it's just sitting there.

I'm not getting one of these, am I?

And remember what you lose in color intensity and "pop" factor you gain in not having some crushed black levels. Its not an issue with IPS, but it is an issue when games are made assuming the TN panels from the original 3DS.

I really doubt we'll see OLED on the Switch, but yeah, IPS out the gate would be a start.

Did anyone do anything crazy memory card wise? I almost bought a 128gb card, but I talked myself down to 32 after reading some inconsistencies about weird behavior on cards over 32gb.

Plus, I never came close to filling my other 32gb card. And that's with a good chunk of digital retail size games.

Fully prepared to be horrified by the screen after being used to an 9.7 iPad Pro

If you want to be good and scared, check out the demo for Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies, and then do the same on the iOS version. Really shows the gap.

Then why even bother if it is going to "horrify" you? Even at 34 and having a ton of hand helds from LCD turtles games to gamegear to this I am blown away at this. It is an evolution of a thing that I have loved since I was 7. I have an iPhone and understand how great the screens are but this thing is what it should be to me. Having backlit color nintendo games is a wet dream to me 27 years ago and still feels like that sometimes.

Can't understand why amazon is taking till monday for overnight when I ordered it on the first order set when Wario64 tweeted it. Doesn't matter but I would like to sell this monster hunter 3dsxl soon and this is making me wait till I can move it all over.

So I got my licenses and NNID transferred over to my new system with the help from Nintendo support (since I sold my old one)

Yet, Pokémon blue and red which I'm POSITIVE I had on the previous system, is making me purchase it. Nintendo support said the same, how they didn't see it. Oh well. Wasn't gonna be replaying them anyways. If I ever have the urge I'll spend the 10 bucks.

You wouldn't know the difference if you've never seen one in the first place. Yes, resolution is terrible but it's hard (for me) to go back to a TN 3ds after using an IPS one. Colors are just much more richer on the IPS 3ds (whether they are more accurate or not is another discussion). Even my wife who doesn't care about the displays notices the difference and prefers what she sees in the IPS one.

Also the super stable 3D on the ips works better.

Bad part is there's black crush on the ips screens.

Oh also if you're someone who likes playing on their bed laying on your back and whatnot ips is way better because there's no way you're gonna hold your TN 3ds so steady that the 3d isn't gonna go into double images or fade in color.

When transferring from a regular 3DS to a New 3DS, how do I just keep everything on my current 32GB microSD and just put it in the New 3DS and just transfer the licenses and whatnot?

I just want to use the same card on the New 3DS. I want to make sure I do this right.

Since I've seen people ask over and over in this thread. All you need to do to tell if it's an IPS is look at it from an angle. It should look like your cell phone screen as in the color doesn't change or barely changes even at an angle. Basically all newish cell phones either use IPS or OLED. My IPS 3ds basically looks like my iphone screen but at a lower resolution.

Same situation, wondering as well.

Think we'll need to copy it to our computers.

I know this is kind of late for deals but can anyone recommend an sd card for my new 3ds?
I could wait for cyber Monday. Does it use anything special?

I've copied and pasted data from a previous card into a new larger one and worked just fine on the same system.

I think before I did the entire process from OG 3DS to 3DS XL. Now it's a 3DS XL to a regular size New 3DS.

Maybe if I put all the current data into my PC, then put the empty card into the New 3DS, do the transfer, and then just paste the data back in afterward, would that work?

Pick PC transfer when asked about the SD card, and then just take out the card that's already in there and put in the old one. You will need to take off the back cover, so have a screwdriver handy.

I'm not sure why Nintendo pretends micro SD adapters don't exist.

That's it? Nice. :D

At checkout on Walmart's website. Wish I had the extra cash to get this. Thought I would, but Christmas for family members is going to cost me. That's more important.

Not really ;_;

Got it! Never had any interest in a handheld until this deal. Gonna chill for a bit and see if it doesn't get cancelled and then DQVII here I come!

So what am I gonna need? A charger and micro SD card?

Got it! Arrives December 15th apparently. Now to figure out how to transfer my stuff from my 3DS XL.

Still up on Walmart. Get it now!

Just ordered a black one.

edit: sold out again

My order confirmed with an est arrival date of 12/16.

You need a charger, but it comes with a 4gb SD card already. You only need a new one if you run out of space on that.

Yes. It's true. Just enjoy the system and games.
