If there's a way to access homebrew on 11.0, you can use 3DSident to tell you what type of screens you have.

Images are too small but I'll assume they're both TN.
To be honest, if I never owned an IPS 3ds, I wouldn't be so bothered since its easier to appreciate the difference in person.

Too bad Amazon's Lime Green XL isn't on sale. Or available in the regular size at least. I've been waiting on a picking up a 3DS for a long time, just want something besides black, white or red.
I know I apologize, I'm not too savvy on how to post images on this board correctly. I took them both out of the box and turned them on without adjusting any settings. I'm giving one as a gift so I didn't want to go past the setup screen but wanted to keep the IPS screen for myself if they were different( small fee for braving it at 5am in the cold to get one ��

If you click on th image it will direct you to the site I posted them on I believe. It was a site that assigned urls to images to allow them to be posted on forums

The white one is easily TN. The black images aren't great, but also look TN.
My white system came in and is also clearly double TN. My N3DSXL from 6 months ago is IPS top, so it's really easy to compare.
Luckily it's for my wife and her old system was a launch with double TN so she won't notice a difference.

Thanks for the help! The black model had a slim foam insert between the clam shell in between the screens. The white unit didn't . The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that may mean something???

Anyone have any links to good guides for transferring data to a New 3DS? I have a 3DS XL(not New) that I want to transfer to this. I've heard horror stories about the process & people losing their save data, so I wanna make sure I don't mess it up at all.

My Toys R Us order hadn't moved since I received the order confirmation email on Wednesday night. Ordered during what I think was their initial wave. It would really piss me off if it eventually gets cancelled like one poster who also the status "Item(s) located in stock) had happen to him. If I didn't think I had an N3DS in the bag, I would've shuffled my ass over to Target, which had plenty available on Thursday. What a shitshow.

Got my files transferred to the new 3ds. What a nice piece of gear. I really like the build of it. Compared to the OG and the OG XL, it is a good happy medium for size.

I ordered a New N3DS from gamestop on Wednesday along with a charger and Skyrim PS4. And the only thing that has shipped now is the charger...I'm kinda worried my order for the 3DS will be cancelled (They already charged me for it tho)

I've trained myself nothing else tends to have the same level of quality. I'll buy a HORI accessory, at a premium sometimes, but I'm content and happy enough not to search out something better later.
By the way, those HORI (3)DS game flip cases are absolutely fantastic.
So I went ahead and set them both up to max brightness and power saving off, which I was reluctant to do since one is a gift but I couldn't resist. And low and behold the black one looks like an IPS screen to me. My theory may be correct that if yours ships with a foam insert between the screens it may mean it's an IPS version
so my amazon one turned up (packed in only a small padded envelope).. awesome looking machine.. and I think it's dual TN

Yes that is what I was referring to. Figured it was a coincidence but I'm not sure why my white shipped without and while the black one did

I think I would prefer 100% TN models over this weird game of chance. Definitely not expecting IPS on this one.
But, as someone who spent a lot of time being OCD about an IPS XL (I sent it in for repair four times for dead pixels and screen blemishes), remember those screens have flaws too. They're cheap across the board. Horizontal scanlines looked awful to me on the XL, and there's a chance of some awkward color banding that I hadn't encountered until just recently with pokemon.
I'll be happy so long as the color tones are a match.
Don't want to rain on anyone's parade. Just saying its an awesome price for a great little handheld in the end. Don't get caught up in the RNG factor.

I agree. I was one who went crazy looking for an OLED Vita instead of the LED slim model and in the end it didn't really matter as much as I thought it would. For $99 bucks I wouldn't obsess much over it, but being I had two sto compare side by side I figured I share any info I had
My black 3DS isn't coming until Monday, but the easiest way for me to determine if the screen is IPS is to tilt the screen at a pretty extreme angle and check if it is still visible, like this:
I've had a TN animal crossing 3DS before and the screen was not readable at all at this angle.

Holy shit trying to set up an NNID and linking to a my nintendo club is a pain in the ass. Keep getting errors.
The DSi XL was the first Nintendo handheld that I know of that used IPS displays.
