(Reuters) - Comedic actor Fred Willard was arrested in Los Angeles on Wednesday night for lewd conduct in an adult movie theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles police said on Thursday.

Willard, 72, known for his roles in films such as "This Is Spinal Tap" and "Best In Show" as well as an Emmy Award-winning turn in the TV series "Everybody Loves Raymond," was booked for lewd conduct and later released, said a police department spokesman, who declined to detail the conduct.

Celebrity website TMZ reported Willard was caught by police watching movies with his pants down, but that could not be confirmed. A spokesman for Willard said he had no comment.

Willard is a veteran comedic actor who has appeared in more than 200 films over a long career, and he currently is starring in a new improve TV show "Trust Us With Your Life," on ABC.

They have adult theaters still?

I never really got why polishing your trophy at these places was considered illegal. I mean what would you expect to happen there?

I'm surprised adult theaters exist, and even more surprised people get booked for lewd behavior. I mean porn is plentiful enough nowadays, only reason to go is some nasty hookups I suppose.

I didn't know he's 72, so I went to Wikipedia to see if there's anything else interesting I didn't know about him. I found this

The role is in an as-yet unnamed film to be directed by the Farrelly brothers.

Honesty: I've never been to an adult theater. I thought the reason they still existed was to serve as places for people to go and jerk it.

Why exactly do adult theatres let uniformed vice squad officers into their premises? Why not stop the movies and turn on the lights when they show up? I don't really see any way that cooperating benefits their business model.

Because people still come anyway. Also pissing of vice...much like visiting the canals at night...not advisable.

Also non sexual and non bribery quid pro quo.

According to tmz's report its an agreement the theaters have to agree to when they get a license. You have to let the cops do a "random walk through". Seems pretty stupid.

Sometimes, sex shops have those little booths where you can watch porn. So I suppose it qualifies for it. But come on, can't you take a copy at the video store?!?! I would really not want to sit in one of those seats...
