I LOVE the modding scene for the SF-Games (TKxSF, SFIV, SFV), but man, 75% are "sexy" and "Bikini"-Mods and most of these are full/half naked (as in "look at those lady [and gentleman] parts") or just some silly strings knotted together over the most crucial places. :rolleyes:

But the rest... alternate costumes (Pants for Cammy... yeah, REAL PANTS!!!), "cosplays", complete character swaps... it's awesome!

Sad, that a lot of the really good Modders are going the "paid mods" way with Patreon etc., because I'm a cheap bastard. :)

Even this scene makes sense for her character and her psychological problems. I never felt that it was out of place to be honest. I also thought it was more like a child. And never in a real sexual way. The only thing which was out of place was the shower scene in the cell. That was totally creepy but also could be possible on an station with mostly men so.....

And yes I liked this rain dancing scene because it felt really innocent to me.

People need to get their head's around that if a Character shows off skin that doesn't mean they are less of a character then someone who is completely covered up , if you think about it , It's a very old fashioned opinion to have if a women shows her ankles shes a tart. This kind of mentally i thought had died years ago.

Its was the bible thumpers in the 90's telling fictional / made up characters to cover up and now we have the same argument by a different group of people , the similarity of the arguments is they both boil down to "lets think of the kids " . Same shit different day my friends.

but he has a point. It does bot alienate potential customers. That is why we have this whole difficulty disaster. We know have difficulties who do not even make you play the game. You do not like dialogue options a la Mass Effect try Action mode. And all for the sake f being more inclusive.
With sexualization it is the same. You alienate people with this choice but you should be able to make this choice without being shunned.
 
I guess the bigger question is, where did this prudishness come from? What age group seems to be most bothered by it? No gamers were complaining about this stuff until this decade. Sure, the far right was all over it in the 90s, but they got shut down and ignored by the industry for the most part, or maybe I am just misremembering things.

Is it because of higher graphical fidelity? I mean there is a place for both realism and fantasy in gaming. If sexy side boobs and gratuitous panty shots don't interest you, don't play those games. Gaming doesn't need to be a safe space for prudes.
 
As long as the design makes sense I don't really care. But if I'm going to spend hours with a character I'd like them to look cool or attractive.
 
For me Bayonetta is by far the most attractive character in video games period. That combo of her attractive but at the same time elegant looking face,glasses,long legs and attitude melts my heart. <3
And i still don't know if i prefer her short or long hair look.

I remember when DOA first appeared in the arcades. Was truly an eye popping experience filled with many double takes from gamers walking past it and catching a glimpse.

Yeah, I prioritize a good looking character over a games story, because their visual design constantly complements the gameplay, whereas story is something I really only pay attention to during cutscenes etc.
 
Camel toe shots are basically the same thing as paintings of the french baroque masters, if you think about it.

I think the "what times has a game pandered to fanservice" is a worthy enough topic if it remains on track. but when you start posting fan-art it sort of goes against the purpose of the thread entirely and becomes something, well... else.

Recent example I found was the DLC in Persona 5. The guys tend to stay on 'theme' but the girls just get a bikini in another color.

Case in point, they even gave her devil horns - so festive!

I still believe that the biggest proponents of attractive/fanservicey art and creations are fighting games.

Those games have the biggest diversity when it comes to their cast.

Edit: The real diversity, not the evangelized buzz-word the auth-left uses now.

Sexy people being sexy is great, if it fits. Quiet in MSG for instance, does not fit. She looks entirely out of place and not believable. Ann in P5 fits perfectly on the other hand because the Persona represents her suppressed desires and shit.

It has to make sense, like everything else in any game, movie or whatever.
 
I think if they offend their female customers by making all the females in a game sex objects that's like half of their potential audience they've offended. :unsure:

I'm just talking about nature, half of the people born are female. that half of gamers are not female means their is a huge untapped market there.

What do you think the gender breakdown of readers who bought, say, 50 Shades of Grey was? Do you think it matters?

For those curious, various estimates by the industry, including put it at about 20% male, and 80% female in the US. The book made bank, despite being obviously aimed at a specific gender (like most books are, actually).

Any game in which 'all' is like that is clearly niche. We dont have any issues with niche genres like romance novels being written specifically for and marketed to woman, do we? We dont care that they portray perfect male sex objects, do we? So why are niche games an issue?

We just also now have some developers who say, "hey let's try to make Lara Croft a little more grounded and fleshed-out". Sorry {insert code here} {insert code here} that Lara Croft is now "basic" to you. I think we're just going to have to accept that not everyone is going to like everything (I grew up with the original Lara Croft but now find the redesign significantly sexier and more interesting than the original).

I disagreed with Hendrick's Hendrick's in that Naughty Dog thread but 100% agree with him here. Even when we don't always agree on everything I think a lot of us share more common ground than realize. What I want out of video games as a medium is to contain variety. Just like I like my books, comics, movies, etc. I know some were pretty pissed that Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 wasn't released in the US (spoiler alert: it wasn't good and was a big step down from 2) but the truth is that it wouldn't have sold well. Soul Calibur VI probably will sell well and, sure, some people with bitch about Ivy but I'll just be home playing it along with a lot of other people who consider themselves feminists.

Video games aren't for everybody. You could say pretty much anything has an "untapped market". But ok just keep putting ugly women in full armor in games because all the people on twitter crying about this type of stuff are gonna buy those games right?

I'm just saying, what if the potential audience for games was double? this doesn't prevent any games which definitely have clear fanservice for men from existing, or make them "bad" any more than they already are. Portal was a game with no traditional guns, had a (unvoiced) female protagonist, yet was a success for valve. hell even the enemy in that game was voiced by a woman. I'm just thinking videogames have a potentially bigger audience than they currently receive.

There are plenty of games that allow for that, with many more releasing each year. Not every game will be for every person, just like with film, comics, music, or novels. Some are made for a very particular audience.

Also, I would argue that Portal 2 wasn't popular because of its female protagonist or lack of fanservice, but because of its strong comedic writing and puzzle/level design.
