Battlefield Bad Company beta coming (360)

Since i havent checked it out, can someone explain unlockables? Is their xp? I saw someone mentioned airstrikes etc etc?

Ill do a team coordinated match later :)

You get points for all sort of things (killing an enemy, destroying a vehicle, an objective, etc.). The more points you get the more rank you gain. Each time you gain a rank you get an "unlock token" which can be used to unlock guns or "gadgets". The gadgets are specific to a class though. So only the Recon class can get the Guided Bomb laser thing.

As you level up, you get credits that you can use to unlock guns or equipment. A must is the autohealer from the assault class, but theres things like the laser guided air strike for the sniper class, and anti-tank mines for the heavy weapons class.

I don't think DICE knows what unlockables mean...sure, more guns for your class type is cool, but taking away vital equipment and storing them as unlockables is stupid. The unlockable things are the same equipment you had from the start in BF2:MC.

COD4 copy attempt failed.

You get points for kills that will eventually lead to a new rank. That will give you a token for an unlock. Haven't seen airstrikes, but manning the mortars are pretty awesome. Nothing like launching a hail of death that rips apart an enemy's hiding place.

The game is overall a more polished version of Frontlines, but with less features. It feels more balanced and the classes are better, but I miss the roles and the actual struggle over the front lines.

Yeah, there's XP. You need a set amount of points to level up and will unlock new weapons or items like laser guided air strikes, anti-tank mines, sticky bombs, gps transmitters to mark mortar targets, medkits etc.

I blame you.

Man I'm a monster with the sniper..that shit is the best ever.

But I blame you.

;)

Well, you have limited choice of where you spawn. You either spawn at the base or you spawn behind the teammate you're looking at via the action in the background.
.

I always choose to spawn near teammates. Problem is it doesnt spawn you near teammates. It spawns you inside vehicles for example. Spawning in a chopper when the guy has no idea how to pilot it and sudenly crashes and you die again. Well sucks.

The damage modelling is weak after having seen Red Faction Guerrilla. The games seems to be fun to play, but the bullets going through objects stuff is nowhere near as good as in COD4.

Sniper rifle scope doesn't move. At all. I guess thats cool...since snipers are bolt action.

I shot a tree with a sniper rifle and took it down.

Oh, and I shot this guy through a fence with my 1 shot bolt action sniper, and 4 boards from the fence exploded. :lol

I just finished the little project that I was working on, but before I head back home I figured I'd write a mini impressions for those not in the beta or aren't feeling the game yet...

First off, I'm a Battlefield nut - 1942 I played the most, Modern Combat on the 360 I played a ton of, BF2, I played it for a few months before I stopped being a hardcore PC gamer...

Feature-wise, I love the game - the best thing I love is how by shooting an enemy or even just looking at someone upclose regardless of your class will light that enemy up both visually and audibly for everyone on the team, no matter how far and everything - it even tells you what class the enemy is, even went as far as to tell me that the enemy was on my six, so that I could just turn around and put a few rounds in his head...

This was how I got a lot of sniper kills on Oasis - the map and screen lit up with enemy dots and I could just pick off the enemy snipers or the foot soldiers running in the open - it basically gives you teamwork without your team saying a word, or using the key commands from all of the old Battlefields - it works great if you're a medic as well - a hurt teammate automatically calls for help, and a good medic can just run up and help him...

The controls are very good - took some getting used to, but I love them - especially sprint and crouch being on individual sticks - funny how I've never thought customizing my controls like that, because I'd go for either/or, and on the left stick only, leaving the right stick for zoom like in every other shooter I play - I especially like how bringing out the knife stabs as it comes out, so you can basically run up to someone with your pistol, and get the instant kill with one button press instead of two...

After the servers cleared up, I didn't have a problem with bullet detection at all - the sniper scope has a razor-thin crosshair, and is dead-on accurate - you just have to remember to lead if you're sniping someone on the run of course (default sniper) - even headshots with pistols, jeep turrets, shotguns always register as they look like they should onscreen - very satisfying, and I never felt like I got screwed over in a fight...

So I'd say that the little sample I had this morning, I am very impressed with BF:BC thus far - love the new features that I really think are improvements over the older Battlefields, and no, I can't say whether it's the best BF I've played, seeing as it'd be crazy to make a judgement from just a few hours of playtime on a two-map beta compared to full games - but I loved what I played - can't wait to get back home to play some more!

I agree that with actual talking and teamwork the experience can be even better - I also hear someone cough as I played, and that was the only time I heard someone talk the entire time - but hey, it's still early...

P.S. - It's great plowing through trees, fences and walls with your tank as you chase someone down, or looking at the carnage of an obliterated base... :)

Where are you? I was online at that time but didn't see you. Were you hiding?:D

And the servers are fixed now? sweet, I'll jump right on to play this how it's meant to be played, without the lag.

Was offline the whole time, so when I read that the servers were up, I just started playing right away...

Right, so you shouldn't spawn near teammates all the time. That's what I mean. You either take the risk by spawning near the team, or you go back to the relative safety of the base.

so does this game have parachutes? This game NEEDS parachutes man...even a one story fall takes out 1/4 health.
Yeah, that shit is ridiculous. :/

On two seperate games on Oasis (the desert map), I parked myself on the clifftops between the bases and just sniped people when they drove or ran by. :lol

Another time, me and another sniper snuck over to the enemy base and just sniped people when they tried to get to the vehicles. Then, if they actually made it to one, he'd just airstrike the whole lot and kill everyone. :lol!

Well finally got in a game. Interesting to say the least. I was in a tank and I destroyed an enemy tank with two people inside, only when it exploded they lived. I then hit them with 5 tank blasts while they stayed in the same spot trying to gun my tank to death, then they wised up and pulled out RPG's and shot the tank 3 times with them as I hit them with a few more tank blasts. Then the tank started making a loud buzzing noise so I hopped out and proceeded to M203 the guys but I'll be damned if they weren't invincible or something. Seconds later the game ended. Not sure if I'll ever load it up again.

Can't seem to get in a game.

Anyone else having this issue?

Pretty much everybody not putting up impressions can't seem to get into the game. I still haven't been able to replicate that first stroke of luck I had in joining a game.

Man i played some this mourning around AM and wow i really like what they have changed, i love the destruction. The first game i played a dude was hiding inside a building shooting at me, so me and a team mate decide to blow the wall up man this game is fun.:lol

At the top of the screen there should be a scrolling message saying the servers are basically down. So I think they got hit with a bigger load than expected.

I played the game finally and really really liked it. Skiloton's impressions are spot on.

For a beta its great. I always found the other battlefields too be a little too intimidating for me, but this one is just right

More like lag. The game ending right afterwards is a dead giveaway.

Plus, I've killed teams of 3 on foot soldiers with just one tankshell.

That's cool. I'd assume most of these issues with lag and what not will be worked out throughout the next month or so. It's still new. I can't wait to get home and try it. I miss me some battlefield action. How are the ragdoll physics? Are they BF2ish where they can be kind of floaty or solid, more realistic?

I'm really meh on it so far. The controls are a bit annoying and the guns lack punch. Half the time the rumble doesn't even work when I'm firing. So far I like Frontlines better, but I'll put more time into it and see if it gets better.

Wasn't lag... I was moving around fine, everyone else was moving around fine, other people were dying. And the game ended the way because the other team won, we lost, didn't lag out or anything.

Very BF2ish.

Also for the people who don't like the "head bob" you can turn it off in the option menu. I think the game is easier to control that way.

God mode cheat?

To above: I kind of like that. When they minimized the throw to bodies in BF: Vietnam is was kind of disappointing. I like that it's not totally realistic and seeing bodies fly. As long as it's not too retarded looking.

I can't describe it that well, but the game feels unresponsive to gunfire. By that I mean when you are shot you dont know about it until your dead basicly. Guns feel weak, everything feels slow and bogged down and animations are pretty naf. Apart from them things the game is pretty fun and the graphics are good also.
/first impressions

Whats the deal with voice chat aswell, I havn't been able to talk to anyone in the game so far?

Sounds like I was playing against you :D

Exact same thing happened with me, but I was on the receiving end. I was sniping, and I got one guy, but two others were not far behind, and when I stepped away from the 2nd floor window, the wall beside me exploded. Luckily there were a few assault classes beneath me, so I was safe just cowering in a far corner :lol Good times...

The physics and animation in general aren't all that, but a lot of the shortcomings are hidden with smoke and particle effects. When you kill someone with gunfire they just kinda fall over or back. There's no real weight to them.

Explosions on the other hand, will send bodies flying. Along with debris from the floor, buildings or whatever was in the way. The bodies themselves are pretty stiff during flight though. Nothing special.

Lag meaning latency issues, not stuttering lag. As I said, if the shell is placed correctly you'll only need 1 or 2 shells at the most to kill someone on foot. Hell, you can kill people with one thrown grenade or grenade launcher hit without actually hitting them with it. As long as they're close enough in the blast radius, they're toast.

I did the same thing because of too much COD. I was sniping someone through a 2nd floor window thinking I was safe. Then someone else blew the window, and the whole side of the building, out with a rocketlauncher. :/

Similar thing happened to me. I was getting shot at, so I was seeking refuge behind and wall, and BAM the wall is blown to smitherines.

This game is TIGHT

Dude, this is crazy.
And man, that text on top scrolls about 10x as slow as it should.

Yea, this is pretty botched to say the least. Especially for a limited closed beta.

Thanks guys for the impressions. I guess i forgot the last battlefield had the same similar point thing. Silly me.

On my way home to try it out. Hope i can get in
