Now you guys need to go on with Journey To Sirius 2.

:P

Most of the games requested in the "What do you want on the VC" thread on the Sunsoft board -> right here <- are now either being considered, in license-renewal talks, or underway. Feel free to click and add your requests there.

So is anyone who worked on the orignal game working on this one? Also is there any chance of release on the other consoles?

There's been some internal debate about this. I'm in the "announce a couple weeks in advance" camp, but Japan side is in the "surprise, look what's up today!" camp. Trying to hit a happy medium. Yeah these are relatively inexpensive purchases, but I think the advance notice helps people plan their gaming budget a little.

I'd love to have a chat with you about this sometime. The Japanese way of dealing with digital releases (the "surprise!" approach) is pretty damn crazy if you ask me. I've never seen a case where it actually works for them. Outside of the 3 days post release where there aren't any reviews and people are more likely to "blind buy" it.

Even the fact that it's WiiWare only too. Just cheaper to develop for I imagine?

Why are the PR images so damn small?

Here's some larger versions for you. These were pulled from the demo video, so they're not as sharp as a direct capture. Also, the boss pics have a smoke effect in the game which is what the haziness on those two is about.

Will you be posting it on Youtube somewhere? I've noticed a lot of WiiWare / DSiWare videos only get posted officially on the Nintendo Channel, and then it's up to Nintendaan to capture and post them on his youtube channel. Nuts!

This batch of Juniors makes me wish GAF had some means of aborting them in the womb instead of carrying retards to term. :\
Well I like them.

They remind me of a young me... with much smaller penises.

edit: Oh yeah. BLASTA MASTA!

Nintendo this gen is so odd.:lol

Seems like the story premise for this game is remake/re-imagining based off the North American version of the game. What was the Japanese version was about?

Didn't it have something to do with your frog mutating and you chasing after it only to fall into a cave and find a tank?

From what I remember, that was also the US version.

I would love to see a video of this, Sunsoft. Just sayin'...since, you know, it comes out in 36 hours.

Releasing videos of their game before it comes out? Pssh, why would they do something like that?

Google "Meta Fight", the original Japanese version name. The original Japanese version's story was a much different space opera of sorts, and knowing that story makes things in the original game make more sense. But, crazy mutant insects/reptiles isn't such a bad thing, either.

Vic, since you are currently online, I'm sold. I'll be buying this minute 1 on Monday.

Can you put up a video?

Holy crap, talk about out of nowhere! Video looks great (2D visuals! :D)

Now all we need is Mario Party on VC this week and we have the best update ever :D

I'm guessing it's played with the Wiimote sideways, and the A button cycles through weapons?

I was kinda hoping it would use the pointer to aim.

Holy crap, Blaster Master was one of my favorite NES games. This certainly came out of nowhere. Hope it's good! :D

!! ! !!!

Never, ever expected this

Literally the first WiiWare game I've been the least bit interested in

Music will make or break this for me, please be good (ok, the gameplay will, but music and atmosphere is a close second)

Yes. +/- and 1/2 are used as well.

Color me retarded, but I don't see how would that even work with a platforming/action hybrid game like this...

Pointer controls cursor, character shoots in direction of cursor? You know, like in Trine.

That video looks wonderful. I kind of didn't care for the remixed song, though. Regardless, I'm looking forward to it.

Guys this is a fucking megaton!! @_@

seriously, it's pretty huge for me, being such a huge fan of the first one. can't believe it's getting a remake/sequel/whatever it is after all these years. just crazy!

Ah, you're talking about just in the overhead action mode. Still I don't think that would work because on some of the later levels the enemies/bullets/fire/etc come from everywhere and that control method would be too sluggish.

Naturally. I just wasn't sure if the big A button meant "Use this thing" or "Switch to the next thing."

Really? It seems pretty obvious to me. Instead of aiming in the direction you're moving, the character would aim towards the cursor. Like the Wii Play tanks game, except add gravity.

I've just now watched the video, and I will say this much - file this under "you can't please all of the people..."

NES BM was one of my favorite games of my entire life, really. I felt like every aspect of the game was absolutely stellar stuff at the time, between the audiovisual presentation to the way the gameplay mechanics worked and the open-world style (a la Metroid). Okay maybe the top-down dungeons weren't so hot, but it was a solid enough effort.

I remember several years later a 16-Bit sequel was announced for Sega Genesis, but the screens all looked kind of.... meh. For some reason, maybe because the original dev team was so far removed, I never even bothered giving it a rental (the reviews were never so hot either).

Looking at the screens/vids of this new iteration definitely intrigue me, but I am also flashing back to the feeling from that Genesis game - BM done right on any platform would be amazing, but only if the right people are in charge of it. Any extra layers of gloss don't necessarily mean it's going to live up to the memories I had of the original (a game I can still fire up now and completely enjoy for all they did with it).

I will definitely keep an eye on this and I suspect that after all this time, they will have done some justice with it - there's been a lot of noise in the retro remake scene lately, with a lot of wild success stories (Bionic Commando Rearmed, Konami's ReBirth games, and of course Mega Man). In fact the first thing I think when I see this is "ohhh, I wish they did it 8-Bit style like Mega Man!"

But whatever, cheers Vic and Sunsoft for pulling this out of left field, it's definitely a worthy franchise to resuscitate and I am eager to see how it executes :)

NOBUYUKI HARA AND NAOKI KODAKA BETTER BE ON BOARD OR OTHERWISE I WILL KILL KITTENS.

The music better be intact or sound better. If the devs will fuck this up, God will forgive but I won't. >:(

Ever heard of Abuse by Crack dot Com?

I hadn't played *that* one, but I'm familiar with the control scheme in an overhead perspective action format. I just think it would have been way too slow/imprecise and frustrating with the wii pointer/nunchuck fire/move combination. Initially I thought he was talking about the S.O.P.H.I.A. platforming segments.

Trailer looks better than I expected. The graphics' style definitely works for me more so than the "thrown together" look of Castlevania/Contra Rebirth and the "not quite as good looking as the original NES games" Mega Man 9. Kinda reminds me a bit of the later Ys games. Lots of different abilities, variety in enviroments, improved looking topdown sections, classic tune remixes... yeah Monday can't come soon enough.

That looks cool. Unfortunately I refuse to download games from VC and Wiiware.

I was.

Here's that Abuse game. I haven't played it, but it looks exactly like I was talking about, except with the mouse instead of the pointer.

I really don't see how you could think aiming with the pointer would be slow, imprecise, or frustrating. Every experience I've had with it has been exactly the opposite.

Especially when the camera is fixed. No turning the camera, no issues. All you do is point.
