Buying Old Apple Products and Why I Do It

The next step is to find a house built in 2010, car from 2010, and vintage clothes made in 2010. And when anyone goes to your house, it becomes an unwritten rule to pretend that it's actually still 2010.

web.archive.org should become his one and only website he visits.

I never used iphones, but seeing "meet the motorola droid" as a thread really brings to life how far things have advanced in just 5 years.

I can't comprehend why OP would need to make a thread other than trying to justifying his unfortunate purchase that was already confirmed in another thread.

Please enlighten.

That's what I get for typing on my laptop while in bed at a horizontal angle....

So, the year 2010 meant a lot for me because it was the first memorable Apple product that I saw that I actually loved. I felt that Apple was at their peak at that time.

Anyway, I'm going to be shipping off some more things that I am selling on eBay so that I can afford to buy more upgrades and parts for replacement. Then I will go pick up the MacBook Pro I am receiving and later today do a diagnostic hardware test to see what is wrong with it. Then open it up and begin cleaning it. Carefully. Caaaareefully..

I can get that but its not like the 2011 MacBook Air look different for example. The iPhone 4S does not look different either. It just makes no sense.

Watching bms2993 with the 2010 MacBook Air, it was suddenly so clear. The MacBook Air, would never stop. It would never leave him, and it would never hurt him, never open windows too quickly for him, or get the latest OS updates and restart on him, or say it was too busy connected to the cloud to spend time with him. It would always be there. And it would open websites slowly, or not at all, to protect him. Of all the would-be laptops who came and went over the years, this thing, this machine, was the only one who measured up. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice.
Simply amazing.

No you're not. Christ this is getting annoying that you keep thinking that :P

Do you see why people think that though? NO ONE sees computers/phones/tablets as something that ages nice like say a classic vehicle or wine.

They are perishable goods. Like the bread comparison someone made earlier.

I believe that APPLE products do! Not the other brands but APPLE products. I'm completely serious. Perishable goods? My friend, a good design will last forever. You can always replace old and worn out parts but it doesn't happen often!

This was a very interesting read in the morning. Assuming op is not just playing the forum, it's just a strange case of common consumer behavior. Op is the type of people that buy store warranty/repair services. They just don't know any better. Best of luck with the gear.

Dude what kind of upgrades and replacement parts do you need? You just saved $500 by not buying the macbook air.

Retro consoles...

Not comparable at all. Those are devices meant to only play software released during their lifespans. These tech devices have to deal with websites and web technologies developed well after their given lifespan. You can't only visit 2010 era websites on an iPhone 4 for example.

Safari on a iPhone 4 is basically completely unusable due to current 2015 mobile web design.

You know for what you are spending you could get a perfectly fine complete say 2012 MBP. That'd save you money, time, and energy.

not sure how many times this needs to be reposted

What would be the best bang for your buck if you wanted to buy a refurbished apple laptop? I was thinking about buying one but maybe someone here is more of an expert.

mbp is free. 500 gb ssd + 8 gb ddr3 ram is 180ish. cant remember. microphone is 14 and trackpad is 60.

Well it being free is a factor then! Still baffled by the iPhone 4 though. 4S can still handle most mobile websites, although very slowly. The 4 is going to freeze and crash constantly due to the advancement of mobile web design dramatically in the last 5 years. Even today's super cheap low-end smartphones like the Moto E run circles around the 4.

Standing O.

Perfect !

2010 rule.

for me, its not worth it now that i have a 2010 mbp i can upgrade for far cheaper.

Huh ?

You bought a 2010 for $500. Your upgrades cost $180. = at least $680

Open box MBP from Best Buy for $711-$71 USPS coupon=$641

Being able to use it right away without cleaning or upgrading = Priceless.

The MacBook Pro was given to me. So all I have to pay for are the upgrades.

Even if he paid 500 for the MPB he wouldn't do that, he says he will never use Apple products made after 2010. Who the hell knows why.

My brain hurts. Clearly a troll thread. But I can't stop reading.

You, my dear sir, are clearly mistaken. So a guy wants to use products from 2010? Why does NeoGAF care so much about that? I crave to live in the 2010 and that's most of the reason as to why I bought the air and iphone 4 and ipad.

So my iPhone 4 arrives on Monday. Stoked to have this thing activated on AT&T's network. Switching carriers from C Spire Wireless to AT&T for this device. I keep watching videos like this to get me hyped up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVIxXBKesvg Man, does this thing look stunning. :)

There will be little to no usable third party apps.

iPhone 4 is unable to handle the vast majority of circa-2015 mobile websites.

Enjoy your phone that is only usable for phone calls and texting.
