Call of Duty: Black Ops III Beta Thread [PC/Xbone now up!]

Don't really have an issue with it. Can't think of a time where it got in the way.

The supers, however, are Shit and have no place in CoD. Or if they do it, make people earn it like score streaks. Getting tons of 3+ person kills with the Gravity Spike.

So after downloading the beta last night I completely agree with you. I think they're trying to do a little too much with it. Especially when it seems like you can still do terrible and still get your specials.

Downloading the PC version now, hopefully it runs well.

- This might be the first COD I buy in PC compared to my last cods I bought (when I did buy them) was on Xbox.

I'd like to think they're the new death streaks. The defensive specials are ok, not a big fan of the offensive ones. But yeah, I believe there's a timer on when you can get your special and doing well decreases it.

Edit: Now getting alphabet errors. I don't understand how the same issues that occurred last week have almost identically occurred this week in the same sequence/timeframe.

The game seems to have a pretty bad memory leak, the pagefile and RAM usage just goes up and up and the game gets more and more choppy the longer you play. 12.1GB pagefile is my highest so far, with 7.1GB RAM. And I'm using the full 4GB of vRAM on high textures, with everything else off or medium which doesn't sound right at all.

Technical issues aside, I absolutely love the game.

They lowered the skill ceiling from AW. There really isn't a tactical purpose to wall run in this game. double jump and drop shot and that is it.

I really dislike the scaling back of explosive splash damage. I have no idea why the Sparrow even does explosive damage since it's almost impossible to kill with it.

The amount of auto aim in this game is just obscene.

My reticule is getting dragged around by enemies who are on the other side of a wall.

The grenade throwing in this game is weak.

They purposely toned down how far you could throw grenades, because they're supposed to be grenades, not mortars.

Wall run lets you flank around from unexpected areas. There are tons of less obvious wallrun spots on Evac, and some on Stronghold as well. Wall running can also let you maintain height above an enemy, which can then be used to drop onto or behind them unexpectedly. It's very tactical, just not blatant.

My issues after hitting 38:

- Aim punch/flinch is stupid as fuck and needs to removed, or lowered to Toughness levels
- Non lethals last way, way too long
- UAV/CUAV die almost instantly every, single time I use them
- Rolling Thunder is too weak for the points
- Hellstorm is too strong for the points
- Rejack spawns you with your primary weapon, even if it's empty and wasn't the gun you were using when you died, so you pop up with no ammo and just die
- Lethals dead-zone is too big, if a nade even clips your ass hairs you're dead, Flak Jacket has become a crutch perk IMO
- Performance issues, mostly micro freezing and stuttering (this can be forgiven though as it's beta, and I fully expect it to be buttery at launch)
- Push to talk isn't default, so you have to disable voice entirely or have to listen to constant background noise and people yelling at the game without knowing they're transmitting
- No penalty for jumping around like a bellend with thrust jump, accuracy should be lowered to deter people from doing it in gun fights

Overall it's 10000000x better than Advanced Warfare, 10000x better than Ghosts and quite possibly up there with Black Ops II, especially if they fix the niggles I have with the game. It is definitely what I wanted, and I fully plan to buy it for PC. I have taken an instant liking to it, and I have just been destroying almost every lobby I enter, usually it takes a little while to get back this form as I only play maybe 4 months out of the year but BO3 just feels right in my hands.

I can see that, but you are better off running around in a building with a shotgun, ak, or smg. Against good players you will die a lot wall running.

I keep accidentally starting matches in spectator mode somehow. I'm on XB1. I seriously have no idea what I'm doing wrong, lol. This is only my second time ever playing COD.

I'm enjoying the Xbone version more than the PS4 version due to controls. Who knew graphics don't matter that much?
there's barely a difference.

I think I'm in the same boat. Might double dip since my friends are split between two systems, but I'm leaning more towards the XB1 just for the controls alone. Getting the elite controller will make it a bit sweeter too.

So after playing the beta some days after not playing COD since MW2 i understand why people think its better then AW. Watched some AW footage and thats crazy fast. BO3 is fast but AW is insane and everything looks like a air battle. So i see why people like the more on the ground gunfights of BO3.

But i still think the whole killstreak thing complety unbalances the game. I dont know how it was the some other games before this. But they felt way to overpowered and dominating the the match after 3 min and when a team is on a roll it just cant be stopped. I dont think thats fun. I dont know much about the game. Like i said last one i bought was MW2. But it didnt feel right. Was okay to play some COD again but the games really or not my cup of tea anymore. Prefer games with longer TTK and more real gunbattles.

This is every COD since MW2, though. Losing a secondary to equip a launcher is a trade-off to take out UAVs for free points.

Or you can get a Black Hat, which takes a little bit longer to use, but actually steals the UAV in Black Ops 3. And it only takes a tactical slot.

It has never felt this bad IMO, you can one shot them with Specialist weapons AFAIK, and they die very quickly to regular gunfire.

I completely agree. These maps are insanely small. I think they're the smallest of all the COD's. They have good vertical platforms, but if you get stuck on the ground against a team with killstreaks that can take out 3-5 people at a time, there's just nowhere to go. Especially once people start figuring out the spawns.

I disagree, I think the killstreaks are pretty balanced. Rolling thunder and dart both need to be buffed. Killstreaks are supposed to be strong, if they aren't they become borderline useless like AW.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
The Escort game mode is bananas. Chokepoint around the bot on these two maps so far. Not a good sign.

I've been playing COD titles actively for years now. Black Ops 2 was my favourite, disliked Ghosts big time, Advanced Warfare was okay but more frustrating.

This game is definitely more like BO2 in the sense of gun on gun battles. The small jump boosts add little, but they got it right by making sure it has very little affect on the gun battles themselves unlike AW, making it a traversal system instead of a crutch has made it more enjoyable.

The maps are good, the weapons are unique and balanced and the perks are the same. Unlike in AW, nothing comes across as being a particular crutch. There are no must have perks, weapons or even Specialists.

Only thing i'm disappointed by is that they haven't let us see more of the personal section, like the Combat Record, Gunsmith etc., although the painting thing is quite smart but i don't think it will take over camo selection.

In my opinion the razorback and m82a ( or whatever this 4burst is called) are a bit too strong. Maybe the pump shotgun is all bit too effective as well, but since I love shotguns, I wouldn't mind that strength lol

Besides of that, great beta!

I've been enjoying the XR2 today, knowing the M8A4 would get nerfed and the only issue I had was the time between bursts, and now they've buffed it, so thanks for that devs! Bastards nerfed my beloved Vesper though. Did anyone actually ask for the Haymaker to fire faster? I can't say that ever crossed my mind. KRM needed that close range buff, getting spitting distance hit markers was just terrible, as it meant death 99% of the time. Rejack taking another nerf, probably justified, I'll most likely go back to Vison Pulse which also got nerfed but I love me some legal wallhack.

Some of those adjustments were not needed. Only if in real life we could reduce damage too.

-_-

I like how the rocket launcher is more of a direct impact weapon now. There's no area impact at all.

-_-

Wow Vahn, so you know people hated second chance in BO1 and yet you never did anything about that, you bring it back as a Specialist in BO3 which was really useful and held its own with the rest of the Specialist, then you go and make it nothing but a glorified tatical insertion because some Youtubers were crying about it. K.

lol.

Haven't played a CoD since MW3 and this beta has been really fun so far.
I guess that is what happens when you don't touch a series for a while.
People who have been playing the CoD series pretty actively...what are your thoughts?

I really enjoy it. Feels like BO2 with just a couple extra traversal options and a "guaranteed" scorestreak with the specialist abilities.

AW was too chaotic for me, with people launching into the air and shit flying from all directions. Just too much happening, and it made locking down Dom points almost impossible (that's my most played game type).

Ghosts was... I dunno. The spawns were atrocious. Way worse than normal CoD. Where 95-98% of my spawns are fine in BO2 and BO3 beta, it was maybe 60% in Ghosts. Also the maps were gigantic by CoD standards, with a terribly low TTK. It was almost impossible to counter someone once you got hit with even one bullet. I did like the different scorestreak "classes" though (specialist, combat, etc). The perks were pretty crazy too, but I'm not sure if that was a good or bad thing.

I'm definitely not a fan of the super weapons in the class specialties. They are fine in small doses but when entire teams rock them, it gets pretty annoying fast being 1hko'd by weapons you're not expecting enemies to be carrying all the time.

I'm fine with just about everything (sans the performance issues) and am willing to put up with it all, but this is what actively makes me groan, because it just adds way to much more luck and chaos into encounters.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
The Beta via steam refuses to connect. I get this ABCD error every singe time! What gives?

- Rolling Thunder is too weak for the points

Definitely. I've used it about 10 times now, and just now I got my first kill with it. Just the one.

In BO1 I used to whipe out whole teams with it. Now it just seems like a super slow, small radius airstrike.

Game is okay. So far I've been enjoying Safeguard/Robot Escort mode the most. The wallrunning doesn't feel as good as Titanfall but it does the job.

Vsync seems to add a metric ton of input lag, a lot more than I was expecting.

Glad the "beta" was made available on steam. Game seems to run well enough and the the specialist abilities seem to bring something interesting to the fighting. However playing has completely reminded me why I soured on CoD before. The biggest factor being the still crappy spawn system. I've died exponentially more times due to people suddenly spawning behind me and killing then straight up encounters. It's insanely frustrating to know for certain there was no one there, turn to the right or left then boom your dead.

As much as I feel Treyarch is the better CoD developer (their equipment system is still nicely done) I have no patience for this so I ultimately won't be picking this up.

Holy shit. I haven't had this much fun since MW2 and I have had more fun with this than the first two BLOPS combined. I love damn near everything I have played in this Beta. And escorting the robot is damn good mode.

Also, I hate to say it being that Titanfall did it first but I prefer the wall running in this. I just feels more natural and I'm more confident in running and jumping from wall to wall. The wall running in Titanfall always felt sort of accidental to me.

The movement in Titanfall is far better. So is the gun handling. So are the sounds. Titanfall is pretty much the better game lol.

That's not to say that this isn't fun though.

I'm massive stan but I gotta disagree. BLOP3 so far has some of the best sound design I've encountered in a CoD game and I play it every year.
