Call of Duty: Black Ops III Beta Thread [PC/Xbone now up!]

Holy shit. I haven't had this much fun since MW2 and I have had more fun with this than the first two BLOPS combined. I love damn near everything I have played in this Beta. And escorting the robot is damn good mode.

Also, I hate to say it being that Titanfall did it first but I prefer the wall running in this. I just feels more natural and I'm more confident in running and jumping from wall to wall. The wall running in Titanfall always felt sort of accidental to me.
The wall running in Titanfall is leagues ahead of this game. The way you almost attach and detach to the walls feels so damn clunky. Whereas in Titanfall it's extremely smooth.


There's also a complete lack of momentum in this game, that little slow down after every jump or slide feels terrible.

After getting to rank 10: Meh, Titanfall in the end is better.

Goddamn this is just fucking "Random shit going on the game-of Duty". There is always a fucking explosion, always a random drone, helicopter, bomb plane, mine, rolling drone bomb mine, rockets and shit flying everywhere because one douche keeps getting a scorestreak that murders the entire team. You die after someone sneezes so much at you so trying to survive a battlefield that is just a cavalcade of explosions is asking for much.

Also the wallrunning is terribly clunky and the jump boost is slow as hell, nothing like the poetry that is movement in Titanfall.

Just run a launcher as secondary, free XP
 
Titanfall pilot movement is balanced against giant robots that can dash and destroy you from just about any range.

BO3 has struck a good balance of letting people use the movement if they want but not leaving them out in the cold if you want to play regular COD.

It's definitely not as intuitive as TF but having gotten up to mid 20's rank I've gotten the hang of it and I think it works for the game it's in.

It doesn't have to be like Titanfall, people are just comparing it to Titanfall because it's an example of wall running done well.

The wall running could serve the exact same purpose without feeling really clunky.

this game does not excite me the way advanced warfare did. kind of boring and same-ey. in a nutshell, this whole game is nerfed and slow (stock is nerfed as well as movement speed, no lightweight, no air dashing, etc). except for specialist weapons, which if I was better at the game maybe I would care more about?

the m8 is the m8, the the scorpion is the vesper, and everything else is worse.

it IS though, take one look at the level design and see all the walls in this game that are made for alternative flanking routes. its just a lot harder and imo less fun to move around.

cod and titanfall are at their best when everything is super easy to execute. its just not as easy or fast to move in blops 3 as opposed to advanced warfare or titanfall, and I think those games are better as a result.

There is no excuse for why the wall running is so clunky. Because of this there is almost no depth or nuance to the wall running and it makes things very static and uninteresting. Plus the wall running is hardly the only thing wrong with this game. Blops 3 doesn't take full advantage of its enhanced movement because the maps are full of invisible walls. Sometimes you can jump over an obstical. Sometimes you can't. Sometimes you can grab onto a ledge, sometimes you can't. It's really annoying and very inconsistent.

The fact of the matter is that this game feels like the enhanced movement was slapped on just because titanfall had it. Titanfall on the other hand felt like it was made from the ground up with these ideas in mind. For fucks sake even Advanced Warfare felt good. I don't remember running into a bunch of invisible walls there.

I don't remember titanfall, but I don't think it's that bad in this game. It could be smoother, but I think it works well enough. This feels like a faster Blops2 as opposed to AW/TF's 120mph chaos.

titanfall is amazing. obviously blops 3 faster than blops 2, because that came before the recent explosion of mobility in fps (halo 5, aw, titanfall)

And just because it's not Titanfall doesn't mean it's not bad. You haven't fallen off the bridge wallrun on Hunted for seemingly no reason? You can't tell me you haven't failed to attach to a wall for seemingly no reason? You haven't tried to wallrun to a place and gotten batted down by an invisible wall for no reason?

The mobility mechanics in BO3 seem kind of poorly thought out in general. Most of the wallruns are suicidal as there's a good chance someone is watching it from a headglitch. The jumps aren't fantastic in combat as when you hit your landlubbing opponent the flinch mechanic aids their aim.

Wallruns in Titanfall serve crucial gameplay purposes. The wallruns in BO3 feel like Kotick gave them a call and said "Hey did you see that Titanfall thing that asshole Zampella is making? We need that. Also... I've just visited Bungie and I've got a couple of other ideas".

I disagree. There are a lot of less obvious places. There are a lot of subtle spots that can be used not just to flank but to approach locations directly. If it is gimmicky then vaulting over walls in the older cod games would be just as gimmicky. It's just as useful and present in the game.

On the topic of wall running and/or verticality, why can I not jump on some buildings or over certain rocks? Even though,i blatantly should be able to.

It is very frustrating the invisible walls and/or ceilings.

You can hit up @pcdev on twitter. They already know about the scoreboard thing, and will be fixing that for release.

Lol, had no idea you joined that game. I was having the exact same frustrations, but after the last few days, I really started to enjoy the beta. Connection seemed way better, and started playing just kill confirmed. Miss the PS4 beta now. :[
 
Just played a few matches, one thing they need to do is tone down the fucking shotguns. Good lord, I've never been shotgun sniped in any game as much as this. There is also another shotgun that's like a machine gun, too fucking OP.

The machine-gun shotgun has crap range and takes like 3-4 hits to kill. Its only advantage over an SMG or AR is the wider spread.

The other shotgun is really slow and inconsistent, but if it makes you feel better, it's damage at a range is getting nerfed.


I swear, the folks who whine about shotguns. :|

Lol not even, i use the auto shotty takes 3-5 shot AND I have to be on your ass

Either way both are very inconsistent

I can't speak on the other shotty, but the starting one has absolutely no range. I've had battles where I've gotten 4 or more hit markers and ended up dead.

Seriously? Wtf, it needs a bit MORE consistency with regards to damage at range.

Miss the SPAS from MW2. :(

You should try using one and then report back. The second shotgun is weak and the first one is really inconsistent.
 
I feel like with each new COD game the player base becomes less interested in playing the objective, playing domination solo has been nothing but endless frustration. Maybe I should consider actually teaming up with some people for once.

I am thinking I might skip this skip this game due to being a hardcore player primarily. At least until I can watch some footage of HC being played. Between the small maps, chokepoints, supers, and killstreaks, it just feels like it would cater to core players more. Otherwise, I enjoyed what little time I played of the demo.

Consider that killcams don't adequately show how difficult (or easy) it is to honestly utilize a weapon. They don't show the setup, the positioning, except for right before the kill.

Decrying things as being overpowered without understanding what it takes to use them leads to undue nerfs.

I just want to see the game get some quality of life updates. The beta feels pretty solid from a design perspective. Sure, there are some things that need buffs/nerfs, but on the whole, it feels good. Definitely hyped for November.
