It's clear as day what he was doing and how he was framing the whole video, its that Sony fans are trying to prop up anyone that is pro-Sony since they got pissed at DF, yet all were happy when DF started and the PS4 had the edge on the the Xbox One. Ever since the One X and especially the Series X reveal they knew what is coming up and are trying to discredit DF any which way they can, while propping up someone else that leans their way not matter how disingenious they are with their defense of this guy.
A capable engine developer wouldn't waste his time making videos on YouTube, he would be working for a established developer on a established engine not on little engine projects that isn't going anywhere. Especially since he claimed the knowledge he picked up on what game engines need and don't need while he was an intern. This guy is transitioning into a YouTuber, he isn't getting another job in the industry.
To the bolded, I wouldn't honestly go
this far on Cherno TBH. There's a lot of technically-minded people not just on YT but on other spots too who most likely may not be actively involved in the gaming industry,
but still know a lot in terms of technical knowledge. There's people I watch content of and read content of, who very likely aren't in the games industry at this time, and for all I know may not have
ever been in the industry in the past. But I don't hold any of that against them in terms of judging their expertise on various topics. If those are topics I also happen to do a lot of reading into, I'll be able to tell whether they're BSing or being legit. In either case, it gives me an opportunity to potentially learn something I may not have known before or may not have known as proficiently before.
To the other stuff though, I don't know if i could say with certainty Cherno is pro-Sony. Their channel came to my attention at the time of the UE5 demo. This recent video is the closest he's gotten to outright badmouthing MS or Xbox, which is the reason I compared him to Innocenceii, a content creator who's on multiple occasions manipulated representations of data and obfuscated facts to make non-Sony platforms look comparatively worst than they actually are. People are
trying to say "well it's not Cherno's job to go find better footage"...to that I said if he was
honest in wanting to see something he'd consider better footage of games on Series X, I'm
pretty sure
someone out of his fanbase also suggested the new Valhalla footage...and yet that's not what he decided to do a reaction to, now is it? Will he pivot to doing a reaction to Yakuza: Like A Dragon on Series X instead? Because there's been a somewhat similar amount of FUD generated around Series X and MS for that game as well, it's another "easy target", as it were, though it ignores that whatever perceived visual shortcomings are present, would be on the developers more or less, not the system itself.
In a world with people not as diametrically opposed to one another, it shouldn't be hard to be both pro-Sony and pro-Microsoft simultaneously, yet here we are, in large part due to irresponsible games "journalists' desperate for any clicks they can get. Content creators on spots like YT have generally usurped the position journalists used to have (in terms of being the go-to for regular gamers to get their info and impressions from), to the point where now even game journalists have been transitioning into content creators. So it's like it was said earlier, whether people like Cherno realize that or not, or even
like it or not, they have a responsibility to encourage healthier discourse. This latest video of theirs...did not encourage healthier discourse. There are a million other ways he could've gotten his reaction and points across without the video coming off the way it did.
I don't expect these content creators to do anything to satisfy my own sense of journalistic responsibility or whatever, but I also try not writing these sorts off completely. Again out of the reactions of his I've seen this is the first one that was off the mark, but I'll be able to see where they really land with the next reaction or two, although that reaction would depend on any sudden new game footage reveals to analyze. If they by some chance conveniently skip literally every Series X gameplay footage that's actually tasty, and choose to do something like, say, a reaction to IGN's Yakuza footage, and peg the same framing towards Xbox in general once again, that will be what lets me know what's really what. I can consider this a one-off for now, but I also hope some of the people who've been,
ahem, "at odds" with my perspective here, see what the real crux of my POV is.
