CornBurrito needs to start attaching this to the end of his posts or else he'll end up trolling all of GAF.

Please tell me you're joking.

Funny how not one person can produce a link or screenshots of such porn from an English website. The porn typically available in Western countries usually features women who look 35 or older because western men prefer aged women who exude confidence and wisdom. Crows feet are among the top fetishes for western men.

I believe this is not a case of "lol they're all pedophiles or hebephiles" as much as it is a case of Japanese work culture making life extremely stressful, leading to the idealization of high school, simplier times in which people could have friends and date girls and enjoy themselves with other people.

And this "school culture" is what leads middle-aged men to go as far as to pay money to simply spend time with high school girls. This, in itself, is already a major red flag regarding the inhumane stress of working in Japan, but an even bigger issue is that it also means young women prostitute themselves (in a non-sexual way) to make some money, and there are men who do more than just idealize the thought of being a high schooler again - they idealize it in a sexual manner.

Japan is not the "lol so crazy there's hentai all over the place" insane country that exported culture tends to lead to believe, but it definitely is going off the deep end regarding the society's treatment of workers, love-based relationships, and cost of human dignity and life overall.

Check Toxi message. It's a good advise.

It can be as low as 12 in some states here in Mexico. But I still think this is creepy and gross :/

Toxi linked a Russian site. Russia is currently waging a cultural war against the rest of the West (mostly the U.S.) and part of that has involved putting up insidious "barely legal" pornography that appears to be in English and produced by the U.S. More research (such as IP address tracing) quickly reveals the facade though.

Goddamn you're good.

Now, are we CERTAIN that these girls aren't actually 10,000 year old dragons? Because then it would be okay, right???
Haha, this meme is so true it reminds me of what happened a few weeks ago.

My sister has a male friend she plays games with occassionally. And somehow we were talking about Fire Emblem Awakening. I asked him who he married and he said Nowi. I laughed and said she's pedobait jokingly, and then it got creepy.

He started on about some NAMBLA shit like, if he made the laws "free love" between kids and adult men( he only said men lol) would be legal, there are kid genuises who should "love" who they want and early exposure to sexuality is not harmful to kids, blah blah blah. I was really creeped out.

Sounds like you should make a call to the police to have his hard drive searched.

If the girls are anime, I see no problem with giving them big chests or sexy schoolgirl outfits. They're not real, they're a fantasy, like pornstars in school girl outfits.

But real young girls being pretty much sold to creeps?. No,NO, FUCK NO.

Japan needs to end that shit, separate fantasy from reality. Creeps should not have legal access to young girls. Period.

How do you separate fantasy from reality when you're OK with fantasy being super creepy?

Except the former leads to normalizing the latter.

Same way we do with violent videogames and movies?

Sick people unable to tell the difference will always exist, but we shouldn't let this kind.of behavior become not only a business, but a legal one. That's pretty much giving these kind of people a carte blanche.

imagine if we opened legal torture clubs, like the ones depicted on Hostal, do we ban the movies or the business?

Entertainment and art shouldn't suffer from these kinds of people. Even if their content depicts depravity

Whenever CNN covers something like this it reminds me of when it gets into an episode of Law & Order. Usually laughably bad and inaccurate.

16 is not. THAT young. We need to draw the line somewhere but it is somewhat arbitrary. Calling it child pornography and rape might be a bit much.

Creepy sure.

Should be illegal? Let's here the arguments

In the usa once a girl turns 18, you can see here doing all kinds of stuff in porn no problem.

10 foot poles! Get your ten foot poles here!

I think 18 is pretty good. In the US that's when most people graduate high school and leave for college or whatever. What age is that for Japanese?

This really is all that needs to be said about how backwards Japan is in some areas.

but in practice it isn't :/

"all municipalities and prefectures have their own particular laws such as Tokyo's “Youth Protection Law” which prohibit adults from having sex with youths who are under 17 years old"

in practice Japan's age of consent is around 16-18 depending on where you are.

16 is the age of consent in the UK. CNN gonna do a piece on us next?

The problem is the age of consent in Tokyo is 17. They are still highschoolers at that age but they are over the age of consent.
Cops can't do anything legally. Maybe raise the age of consent?

There's a lot of japan's weird quirks that I can dig, but the whole School Girl / Maid Cafe stuff is something that I find really strange.

Around 18 as well. 20 is when you can legally drink, and are considered a full blown adult by society at large.

But the issue lies right now it isn't even age of consent that is the main problem. The problem is that these businesses promote these practices and are acting within their right as nothing illegal is happening at these businesses. The problem lies in what happens after, that's what's really hard to enforce and regulate.

While some cafes, like the one in which Eli and Honoka work, strictly prohibit dating or interacting with customers outside the business[/B], there is a much seedier and disturbing side of JK.

"Once you're out of the shop, even by a step, you can do whatever you want," one victims' advocate told CNN.

It's awful, and I hope something is done about it.
What else can they be other than 10,000 year old loli dragons? 20,000 year old dragons?

This is awful.

A good way to minimize prostitution is to reduce the factors that lead the women to it. I wish the article would actually delve into how, why, when, and which girls come into the "dark truth" as they call it, because knowing that illegal prostitution and exploitation exists is one thing, that's something many of us have experience with and have probably already seen in person not just in other cities/countries but also our own. I mean, Streetwise is an '84 documentary about child prostitutes in Seattle, the main subject being a 14 year old girl. This is a subject that's covered, that exists in the popular consciousness. It's not strange at all that Japan has a problem with prostitution, but what may be of interest to an exterior audience is its specifics, which are half explored but seemingly focused a lot more on the cultural context in which they exist and statistics. Which, well, goes to show their priorities and how they choose to cover these subjects i guess.

What i want to know is why are the girls there? Don't they have other professional venues to make money? Why do they need money? Are they being coerced? How are they being coerced? For all i know, and perhaps for all they know it's just work like any other. I want to be able to have an opinion on child prostitution in Japan that is more than "it's bad" and "they should make these things illegal". These situations of exploitation often exist in the context of other coalescing negatives like poverty, isolation, lack of alternatives... in the end these articles about japan, as pretty much most articles about prostitution i suppose, seem to display little care for the prostitutes themselves which more than heartbreaking is a bit infuriating because they do nothing but explore the problem so superficially nothing novel is transmitted, something that might perhaps, who knows, move people to have an active and direct position in solving these problems not just outside in other countries but also in their own communities.

Looking at Japan's pop culture, should this shock anyone? The sexualization of girls in Japanese games/anime/manga/hentai has been excused as "cultural" by western apologists for way too long and in my opinion is reflective of the sad normalization of real life underage sexualization.

The large defense force regarding Edea's "Bravo Bikini" chibi model is a great example of how we need to change our view. If an EA game depicted a 15 year old character in sexy lingerie while drawn in a style reminiscent of a precious moments doll, nobody would stand in judgement of rebuking them. However, if it's Japanese - any critic is often shouted down as "just not getting it."

This reminds me one of my first jobs when I was about 15 or 16, was in a department store like environment. I had a man who must have at least been in his 40s come into the store, on more than one occasion, and repeatedly ask me to go outside and for my phone number. He followed me around the store as well. I have difficulties with people.

Excellent post! This kinda echos what I was mentioning about Telekura/Enjou Kosai with minors. Why do these girls find the need to do this? Is it some situation at home? Do they really need extra money on the side? societal pressure from classmates and friends maybe doing similar things? Or on the darker side, could be forced into it.

I didn't know this was a culture, I thought it was just a fetish like it is in America.

It didn't seem like a secret to me, I always thought that shit seemed to coincide with pedophilia.

I've been thinking about watching Love & Pop, Anno's movie specifically about enjo kosai but haven't unfortunately. IIRC in the movie explores in the context of materialism, from the girl's perspective as a way to support their materialistic needs and from the men's perspective as objectifying the girls which become the "material" to satisfy their materialism.
