Wow, the tata poster is like a drop of soap in a pan of water with a thin layer of oil on top. Look at that manchildren void around it!

Also notice how the guy closest to it is all blurry, like at the time the picture was taken he was in the process of running for dear life away from the titties

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

empty guardrail after empty guardrail :lol there should be a general photoshop thread for this launch, combined with the France launch thread, it would be gold
i can't wait to see the Sony PR spin on this shit. i get the feeling it will be much like the Iraqi minister guy talking about: no troops in Baghdad, we beat them back, meanwhile in the background tanks driving by. :lol

i really dont know why you guys want sony to die? the system is solid and its sad its had this many issues, and so much hate from every end. The thought of Naught Dog, Insomniac, and Team Ico dying with sony's failure would be a great loss to the world of gaming.

So how is the HD TV penetration in Australia?

If you are interested in Sony's chances, the question you should be asking is what is the miracle penetration in Australia.

They are composed of people. Are you suggesting if I don't buy a PS3, those people are gonna die?

THe reason why you might want them to have a near death experience this generation is: a) what the victory of $600 would mean to gaming; b) they might come up with something amazing next time around (look at Nintendo).

Most of the guys here (me included) in this thread do own a PS3. I am sure if the price was around the USD price, there would be more people coming to the event.

I mean come on 999 AUD for a PS3 is insane, Sony deserves this and this should be a lesson to all console makers not to screw any particular region.

I'm going to spin this for Sony:

Look guyz 1,000 new Blu-Ray machines have been sold in 1 day!!! This beats the HD-DVD record with 2 machines!!! Blu-Ray winnar!!!! Yes!!!

PS Blu-ray's winning!!!

*Apologies if that sounded annoying, but if you require solace this helps.

It's been said before but a) Sony won't die no matter how far PS3 bombs and b) they deserve to be shown that there is such thing as too high a price for a console. The fact that such an expensive console has lost such a huge amount of market share is good for consumers. Sony won't make the same mistake next time.

Finally finding some stats on HDTV penetration although they're not very good stats.

At Sep 06, 23% of homes use free-to-air digital TV.
http://www.dba.org.au/newsletter/IB-DecJan07-full.asp#WEBSITE

Of course, not all these people have HDTVs.

275,000 plasmas and LCDs were sold in the December 2006 quarter.
http://www.smh.com.au/news/home-theatre/aussies-choose-lcd-tvs-over-plasmas/2007/03/16/1173722711373.html

So that's would mean maybe around 1,000,000 per year including other types of HDTV. So as a percentage of the 7.6 million homes, that's 13.15%.

Previous year same quarter was 77,731 plasmas and LCDs which is 300,000 per year. So maybe that would mean 4%

Can't find any other stats but I would guess that maybe 20% of homes have a HDTV based on that.

I probably won't be picking up a PS3 until the price drops to AU$300. Nice to know it'll come with a free copy of Casino Royale though - I'm looking forward to it.
Oooh, burn! :lol

Muffin, they aren't going anywhere. Nintendo came in third place last gen and I don't see Miyamoto out on the street giving handjobs for stale donuts. Sony isn't going to fire everyone and drop out if they come in last for one generation.

Remember that Japanese picture of the 3 Japanese dude pointing a finger and laughing at the original Xbox?

I have a feeling this pic will become something like that.

Eh, I don't think you can use plasma numbers from before 2006. I know a lot of people who bought SDTV plasma televisions.

I'm trying to decide what I find more amusing, the sad state of Aussie PS3 launch or the Wii vultures swooping in on the carcass. :lol

So we do not wait for numbers here?

Numbers are fine and dandy when a Non Sony Source will supply them. Sony already did the PR release about howamazingly awesome the launch went even though the media says it was a total disaster

Not all LCDs and plasmas are HDTVs, an awful lot of cheap and small LCDs are sold and EDTV plasmas are still plentiful. Digital TV has no relevance to HDTVs really, as it can be enjoyed on any TV. December is always retails highest selling period, so your yearly figures are totally out of whack.

In other words those figures don't really tell you anything other than the fact that the real penetration is actually much lower than them.

The evil Microsoftware has been driven from the holy land and we feast on it's corpse! Many new games were released with the PS3, all of which run in 1080p and are 60 FPS.

Thanks for stating the obvious. You clearly missed my extensive use of words such as "maybe" and "guess" in my original post.
