Tell better stories. Make better characters. Doesn't make a fucking difference if that character is a trans elf or a black dwarf. Compelling characters are compelling characters. That is the end of it. Anything else is just having an axe to grind for no good fucking reason. DAI is not pushing token minority characters as part of its roster. And the diversity of many characters like Dorian, Krem and Iron Bull was more like extra background drops rather than pushed in their face. That was good progress for BW who stumbled a lot more in DA2 with characters like Anders who would get angry at you for not following his advances.
DAI was definitely pushing token characters. Krem was a checkbox of a character. He had a minor participation and the most memorable part was the infamous Bull lecture scene in the bar, where they talk down to the player about how trans people are people, talking in a way that no person talk in real life. That was the writer preaching his ideology. The problem is that it breaks the immersion and it ruins the believability of the characters. From that point and on I just couldn't take anything they said as the character saying it, I was constantly wondering "is this part of the writers ideology?" or "Is this the character or the writer?".
Funny that before that scene I didn't even pay attention to him nor cared about it. They ruined what could be a good character to score some political points.
The "gayness" of Dorian was a central part of his character the entire game. There was even a sidequest where he had to talk to his father, who had issues with him being gay. Unlike Krem, he at least had a personality besides being gay, so he wasn't 100% trash.
And there many other cases, like random conversations between characters like Bull praising another woman's armor, because "it is practical, unlike some bikini armor" or like that woman from DA2 (I forgot her name) who looks more like a man now and was your romance option. The women are clearly made less feminine and less attractive in recent Bioware games (DAI and MEA).
In ME Andromeda it is even worse. With the infamous trans NPC that feels the need to tell her life story to you the first time you meet, even if you are complete strangers.
DAI had only two good things, everything else was either bad or mediocre: the ball mission and the Lilliana's subplot where she wants to become the popess and you can incentivize her to kill her way to the top (even though they drop this plot immediately after). Only in those two parts, I was actually in danger of giving a shit. The rest was either pure identity politics cringe or just standard fantasy tropes that have been done better 1000 times before.
MEA had nothing good at all. It was terrible in every way.
But why anyone would take BWs diversity is the key reason for BW games problems is fucking stupid. Diversity is the least of Biowares problems. If you can exhibit critical thinking it should be self-evident to you that diversity is not the problem here. Its lack of better writers. Its lack of consequential storytelling and choice. Its too wide a scope for the game they are making. It is tired fantasy tropes. And Bioware, even as disappointing as they have been with games like Andromeda, are still among the top storytellers in gaming. Which tells you all you need to know about the state of storytelling in AAA games. That it is overall garbage. Bungie, Blizzard, and Bethesda games all tout their stories as being great and "epic" but in reality so much of it so fucking shit and have been since way before diversity was even a heated topic in gaming. So maybe fuck off with this snowflake manbaby cry shit and actually direct the critique where it is warranted.
Bioware is trash lately. They haven't made anything good since Mass Effect 2. They aren't even close to being the "top storytellers". They can't tell a story to save their lives that doesn't involve some minority telling you his/her entire lifestory and lecturing you about it.
