David Jaffe Accidentally Leaks Details About New Game

Whatever his game is better be a masterpiece with the amount of halitosis David Jaffe has. One of the most annoying personalities (that for some reason I still respect) in the business.

:/ I have a feeling twisted metal will make a smooth transition into modern day games. Its cars with guns, not very complex by todays standards.

More complex than you think. Twisted Metal 2 had great character balance and amazing stages; something Black was lacking.

That's why I don't think it will be good enough as a retail disc. Charging the same price as GTA4 for a destruction derby game? Especially when Jaffe is on the record against persistence and "meta" elements. Twisted Metal either needs to be a low-price download, or a significant re-thinking for The Power Of The Cell Processor(TM).

You're right, may as well make Street Fighter a download game as well. It's just two guys fighting, nothing that couldn't be done in a sandbox game. . .

Customizable Vehicles pls..

See above comment about game balance.

No.

This would be like allowing custom characters in a fighting game. Would completely unbalance the game.

Cannot be stated enough.

Black was such a disappointment. At least Jaffe admits that, so there's hope for future iterations.

It'd be awesome to have Paris remade for the PS3 TM. One of the greatest levels in any game.

Paris was so great.

TM2 was so awesome for it's tongue in cheek presentation, which in hindsight I gather wasn't intentional.

I'd love to just have more world theme stages where we drive around and destroy famous landmarks.

We should compile a list of famous shit we want to blow up, or mutilate in order to open extra segments of the stage. :lol

Imagine a Twisted Metal Disney stage. Just trashing up a Disney-like theme park. Plenty of pedestrians. . . :P

At first I was all pumped for a day one purchase of a new Twisted Metal. Then I remembered I don't own a PS3 yet. This is most likely a PS3 exclusive right?

I'm sorry that I find a couple games in a series to be rather sub-par that you, in turn, apparently enjoy. I've only played Twisted Metal Black (sent in for it with me PS2 network adapter) and the PSP variant, but I found them both crappy. You enjoyed it? Great. I'd honestly wish for something different when someone who was such a big part of the God of War series, something actually worth praising, is apart of it.

Is there anything directly pointing to TW?

Aesthetically, customization is a must, this paired with unlockables (ie: Halo 3 armour permutations) would be great. It’s the done thing and I can’t see why they'd goagainst the grain in this aspect. I also can’t see a problem with being able to select a custom special weapon from the ones available.

I do agree though that a MW2 style of customization/levelling would lead to balance issues.

You mean TM? If so then yes

According to posts on both Gamefaqs and Neogaf, in the midst of the documentary "The Dark Past," on the game disc, numbers flash on the screen. By decoding the numbers with their spot in the alphabet, the words, "Twisted Metal is on PSTHREE" can be deciphered.

According to a piece on Kotaku, Jaffe confirmed this fact at DICE, stating that he was surprised how quickly the code was discovered and cracked. This is because Twisted Metal: Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition had been released on Tuesday to stores, leaving players 48 hours to break the code. When asked as to whether the upcoming version would be distributed via Blu-ray disc or download, Jaffe had no comment.

Customization as costumes/colours/items is a standard in ALL fighting games nowadays in case you havent noticed and Soul Calibur does allow you to create a random character, the movesets are built from pre-existing characters.

Customizing the performance and/or atleast visuals of cars would be cool. And i think all racing games allow you to use tuned/painted/tricked cars online. (Need for speed, Forza, Dirt, Grid...)

TM Black was the best of the series screw the haters :D

but I agree TM2 had by far the best levels out of all of them seriously how can you top blowing up the Eiffel Tower or the ice tundra you just can't and it's my second favorite game in the series.

The perfect Twisted Metal will be a combination between TM2 great level design and TM Black design chooses. You hear that Jaffe :D ?

I wouldn't consider customization a standard. The biggest fighting game of this generation is SF4 and that's got limited PAID customization.

I have no problem with visual customization in TM, although I'm sure the majority of Twisted Metal players will be sporting BLACK CARS ZOMG SO MOODY! :P

I wouldn't object to re-skinning existing character models as well; however I doubt this will happen. Soul Calibur style player created content is the exception, not the rule unfortunately.

Twisted Metal is a racing game now?:lol

Pimp

3 was a massive misstep though, sorry Jaffe

As for the Twisted Hate, it not standing up to God of War is hardly an insult, a lot of incredible games aren't that good.

If Jaffe still cares about making smaller games though, I'd rather see him do GoW PSP2 than TM PS3. I'll be picking up whatever it is he puts out anyway.

I've only played the PSP version and I liked it. But unlike you guys, I didn't play the franchise in its heyday. So I would need a demo to be sold on it.

Anything but Twisted Metal. What a crappy series.
Yeah, because awesome reviews and great sales = crappy series
Right?

Aha, so because you didn't like it = crappy series
Awesome logic! Keep doing that!

It's obviously my opinion, and I backed it up. Unlike you who seems to chime in with a ":lol " or a random one liner. Please don't flame me for dumb reasons.

And for references, here are the ones I played:
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/twistedmetalblackonline?q=Twisted Metal Black - 79 average
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psp/twistedmetalheadon?q=twisted metal psp - 79 average

Hardly awesome reviews ya? Now please ignore me ever entering the thread.

The PSP version is to Twisted Metal 2; what. . . errrr Super Turbo is to SF2.

A lot of the classic stages updated and expanded and some new stages tossed in there. It was an awesome game. Too bad it got shat on by morons in the press, "Durrrr Sony is just porting old games to it's handheld."

If only those fucks had an axe to grind every time Nintendo craps out another Mario Kart port on another platform. . . :P

There is a difference between "This is crap" and " I don't like it", Junior!
Learn the difference or stop posting dumb shit!

edit:
:lol So you played TM:B Online ONLY and Head on (PSP)
Both still with a 79% review!
Aha! So you didn't play TM 1&2 and Black (all three with 90% reviews).
Good job! What a crappy series

Please don't quote the retards. There's a reason they're on my ignore list. :lol

Seriously, moron ass kids these days. ZOMG! GAME IS 79% POSITIVE REVIEWS, IT'S CRAP!

Yeah. . .

This is why I support Eugenics.

I have to say though. The local multilayer was absolutely awesome on TM: Head On. Single Player was not really my thing (mainly because I'm one of those guys who prefer story driven single player campaigns). Then again, TM seems to be more like a fighter than anything else (except its cars that battle) and I feel the same way about fighter single player.

I said based on the ones I played =\ And I was just pointing out the 79% -- not to back up that it's crap -- just to say they didn't have awesome reviews.
Doubledex said:
Ok! So the two games you played had ~80% reviews.
So, games with a 80% rating are crap?
I only mentioned reviews to show that the ones I played didn't have glowing reviews. Me finding the games to be crap have no relation to the reviews. I haven't even read any of 'em.
I should be doing hw said:
Oh your one of those people that believe reviews scale from 7-10, not 1-10. Get the fuck out of my life.
-_- No, I don't care about reviews. Doubledex just said the game got awesome reviews and sales, I was pointing out the ones I played didn't get awesome reviews. That is all. Nothing else was implied or meant to be implied based on the review scores. They are as arbitrary and meaningless as my own opinion.

Oh, sorry. I forgot to mention I meant TM:HO was fuckin' awesome because of the online play. Infrastructure is something that is horribly ignored by developers on the PSP, and it's a damn shame because it's such an awesome experience in the palm of your hand.

Shame they couldn't get online play in the PS2 port.

New IP incoming?
David Jaffe's latest game has long been rumored to be a Twisted Metal game, ever since a PlayStation 3 ad featured an image of mushroom dust cloud in the shape of clown, leading many to believe it was a hint of a new Twisted Metal game for the PS3.

Now, after Jaffe's latest comments, it appears we may have been thrown a curveball and EatSleepPlay's next game will be a completely new IP.

In a recent video, posted today on Jaffe's personal blog, the vocal developer talks how proud he is of the recent announcement of God of War III being featured on Slurpee cups, even having its own "Kratos Fury" flavor.

Jaffe then goes on to speak about his hopes for his latest project to reach that same milestone, mentioning that type of treatment is usually reserved for sequels, hinting that his latest game is the first game in what could end up being another very successful franchise.

"Maybe with the sequel, usually the first ones don't, you know you got to build your fan base and it's gotta do well. But hopefully we're on the road, one day we can get something like that for what we're working on."

Don't be so modest David Jaffe, if you hadn't had a hand in God of War, it might not be the success it is today. Twisted Metal didn't do too bad either, it's only one of the most recognizable PlayStation franchises in existence.

Even if it's not a PS3 Twisted Metal that EatSleepPlay is working on, we're excited to play whatever they've been dreaming up. How about you? Disappointed it might not be Twisted Metal or happy for something fresh?
Didn't know this was from a banned site. Regardless the information is correct and can be verified from the video blog entry:

Just to be clear, I've never said we were or were NOT making a new Twisted Metal. Ever. But just to be 100% clear, if we were to make a new Twisted, I would consider it a reboot. The last console Twisted was 10 years ago. If we were to make a new one, we'd be starting with the assumption that no one knows what Twisted Metal is anymore and we'd have to re-earn each and every fan the series ever had. So in that sense, IF we were to ever make a new one, we'd consider it a brand new series/game/franchise.

Eh, those slurpee-cups look cool, I'd love to get one for a friend (huge GoW fan).
[edit] Watching the video, does he seem kind of irritated or am I imagining things?
[edit2] Nevermind, he's cool now. 3:20 is where you want to go to if you want to just hear him mentioning their next project.
[edit3] Wait, he's cursing again for no reason, I think he's upset.
[edit4] Jaffe I think I love you.

Eh, makes sense, if it's a reboot then he's treating it like a new IP, build from the ground up, new gameplay mechanics and maybe a new design direction, so yeah, "the new" (hypothetical) Twisted Metal would have to prove itself in the eyes of the current generation to be succesful.

Have we heard anything about GDC's panelists yet? Is Jaffe going to be there?

I remember trying my best to enjoy Twisted Metal 3 and 4, and I thought Black was meh.

We need the awesome cartoony craziness of Twisted Metal 2 back, fuck this serious dark bull shit!

I hope we will get the opening-, middel- and end movies for each character again. The stories were great :D (I loved Twisted Metal: Black)

When ever i think about a new Twisted Metal game i always start to think about how the controls would be. I remember the 1, and Black being very basic driving games, but i wonder how that translates into today's age. Granted i haven't played a car combat game since Black.

Lets say he is making a vehicle combat game. What would you guys rather want? The gun centered on the car, and in order to shoot you must aim with the car. Or a aim-able gun with the right stick, separate from steering?

Edit: Hell, or even a Brute Chopper control setup. Where you move with the left, and both steer and aim with the right.
