David Jaffe Accidentally Leaks Details About New Game

Bullshit. He wasn't born yesterday. If you're going to whore yourself out to the internets by making youtube videos in which you're bitching about your everyday life you should be prepared to face the flame baits without having a hissy fit, insulting someone that said nothing to you, or go on some pseudo internet black out.

Yeah but I'm willing to deal with that to get masterpieces like Calling All Cars. Car combat games. I can't get enough of them!

you know - the vigilante games were interstate games. they were the official console spin offs to be precise... ~_~
I didnt knew this, the gameplay was extremely different though.

I never got into Twisted Metal back then, the only car combat game i played frequently was Interstate 76 on PC, which was absolutely amazing. :D Vigilante 8 was good too, but half of its characters and vehicles were copied from Interstate 76. :lol

But i played TM "a couple" of years later again and understand why it was so hyped back then.
I would really like to see a TM game which fully uses the PS3 hardware, epic weapons, great special effects, lots of stuff going on etc.

P.S.: I like Jaffe. ;)

Interstate 76 has such an awesome soundtrack. I still have the CD soundtrack that came with the game.

Interstate '76 - Revenge Rocco Style

I'm still a fan of car combat, so I would be happy with TM. I don't think he'll disappoint.

Twisted Metal reboot ( if that why Jaffe work on ) should combine Full Auto and Burnout Paradise with more cinematic feel to it and put crazy SP mode with actuall story ( since old School Car combat games will not do it for today's market ) , but I doubt a small studio like Eat Sleep Play can do that.

Twisted Metal games have always had stories. And in his most recent video blog he talked about the "stories" in his new game.

David Jaffe is presenting the final awards at the IAA's with David Crane. The crowd keeps on shouting at him, "TWISTED METAL" and he finally yells back, "SOON BITCH!, 8 or 9 months."

HAHAHAHAHA. Awesome. I think we can lay to rest any speculation that it might be something other than Twisted Metal.

Just thinking that starhawk, twisted metal HD, halo reach, and possibly killzone 3 coming in the same quarter is like the greateste lineup of games for me.

Last Guardian releasing in Q4 would trump all of those combined but I get ya... I'm excited for all of them as well.

That's ok. I've never truly enjoyed a game of yours either :)

So I herd you liek cars.

Well, Mr. Jaffe. If your game DOES so happen to be a new Twisted Metal, I'll be looking forward to it.

I just realized how old this thread is. Woops for replying to Jaffe a year later. LOL.

EDIT: where did all the talk about Starhawk come from? I thought that rumor sprung up like back in 2008 when Incognito's head left, and then the rumors just died out?

That's so Jaffe.

It's been confirmed for years! In Twisted Metal "Head On" there's a hidden message that SAYS EXPLICITLY "Twisted Metal coming to PS3." It's in the works. It's been confirmed! Stop the speculation!!

I really hope they release an HD remake of TM2 with online play on PSN right along side whatever the new Twisted Metal game is called. I mean, it only makes sense, right?

Anyways it's good to hear any news about this game.

It's 2010 and still people are surprised at the prospect of Twisted Metal PS3. :lol

Do people want Twisted Metal THIS MUCH? I don't mind another Twisted Metal but I'm not sure whether I want to play a car combat game at this point, wouldn't it be better to see something fresh and new?

Have we actually seen a car combat game recently?

I'd rather they focus on wholly original levels, then maybe release DLC level packs for favorite levels from TM1 (rooftops!), TM2 (antarctica! hong kong! new york! paris!) and TM: Black (basically all of them!). A Black level pack and a Classic level pack would be damn awesome.

Of course, I'm still kinda hoping that the rumored Harbor City thing happens. <3

Kittonwy, some people love seeing old game come back alive. It's been a pretty long time since we've seen a Twisted Metal on current-gen hardware.

Sure, they're crazy and fun and an underserved genre these days.

The last one was what? Fatal Inertia? And before that, Full Auto? Neither of them was well received by consumers. I'm not sure if an online arena car combat game can hold people's attention in terms of longevity today as opposed to back then with Twisted Metal Black when even simple death match would suffice, people might even buy a game based on fond memories of an old classic but people can't PLAY fond memories.

Twisted Metal: Black is what got me back into gaming after years of not caring. Bought a PS2 the day after i played it. So to answer your question, YES!

But does it go beyond just bringing back an old IP for the sake of bringing back an old IP? What's there other than deathmatch in an arena? How much variety and longevity can you get out of an IP like Twisted Metal? If you look at Warhawk there's a TON of variety because the player controls a character and the character can choose from a variety of vehicles or fight on foot with a variety of weapons, a vehicle combat game might feel much more limited, hopefully they can throw a few twists in there to make things interesting.

While that's also a good idea, my issue is that they've not been able to recreate the impact that TM2 has. When you get hit with napalm, it's loud, it hurts, and your whole screen is on fire. It's absolutely awesome. In TMB when you get hit with a gas can it's just not nearly the same. (Napalm was also way weak in TM3 & 4) Same thing with ramming cars. In TM2 when you hit someone with a bigger car, they get hit hard, go tumbling over, etc. In the sequels you just kinda bounce of the other car. It's kinda tough to explain, but it's just not the same.

So while I look forward to seeing another Twisted Metal game, my hopes aren't too high that it'll have similar impact/damage and physics as TM2. Which is why I would TM2 with new graphics and online play. I still play TM2 from time to time and the only real issue with it these days is that the graphics are very chunky. Of course online play would be a no brainer is they were actually ever to release such a project.

Jaffe's "speculative" statements have started with "IF WE WERE TO MAKE A NEW TWISTED METAL... we'd try to sort of start the franchise over and appeal to people as if it were a new IP." There was also that blurred note that people were able to photoshop-sharpen and read out of some picture Jaffe put out about the character being able to get out of their vehicle and run around on foot.

Yes, we do.

Would be a prerequisite, I think. It's been 8 (?) years since the last real outing on a home console. It wouldn't do to simply make the same game in new HD clothes.

It'll be interesting to see what a Twisted Metal for 'today' is like.

Carmageddon 3

This would be a sensible alternative, although I think they would be restricted from publishing it in about half the world.

That said, excellent slip-up. Jaffe is so quirky.

Honestly, a reboot where Jaffe really completely redid Twisted Metal and gave us our favorite characters with a bunch of new ones and some more hilarious stories would practically be fresh and new. TM Black Online was so incredible.
