I fucking hate buying console games now. It takes like 40 minutes to install and then after that I need an 11gb patch? When it goes at like half the speed of Steam that makes playing a game on Day 1 pretty much impossible.

11GB day one patch...goddayum.
Is this up there for biggest Day One patches? Because that is pretty crazy.

True, it is less than ideal but price is the biggest reason to go physical still. You can often get a deal on new physical games, but rarely on digital (for AAA games at least). The day-one experience with a disc is pretty abysmal though. Almost no reason to buy physical if you're interested in playing right away.
Yeah I remember that it was pretty brutal back then.Halo TMCC had a ~20GB patch.
Let me guess. The 50 GB Blu-ray disc was too small? Why can't they use two discs? Probably because the Xbox OS doesn't support it. Thus is getting ridiculous, especially for Microsoft first party games.

Long install times from the disc is still a thing on Xbox One. I thought that would've been fixed by now.
Wonder what's in the patch, hopefully just multiplayer stuff.

This has nothing to do with the size of blu-rays. The game was "done" when it was put on the disc, but there was probably lots of bug fixing still to do (Assuming there wasn't content missing of course), and as such, the truly "done" version of the game is what you get when you download the patch. This is the state of video game development right now at a lot of studios.
Honestly though, 11gbs sounds like straight up missing content. maybe the MP wasn't complete, and that's what you're downloading with this patch.
Christ, 11 GB!?!
Just start shipping on two discs for fucks sake.
Still acting surprised about day one patches in 2016 lol
To be fair... If you're comparing buying games on console to buying games on Steam then surely you're referring to digital games? In that case, I currently have all of Gears 4 pre-loaded onto my console and I'll be ready to play at midnight on the 7th... Download speeds matched exactly what I pay for from my ISP so no issue there.

A-gawd-damn-men.
Been enjoying this X1 digital pre-load luxury since Nov. 2013.
As soon as 12:01 EST hits its showtime.
Do we have patch notes on what the 11gb patch contains?
Please be built into my 72gb pc preload.
I might have 2 500gb SSDs but like hell that's going on those
Back when Halo MCC the developer hinted that the OS doesn't support two disc installation. It's probably still the case.

My directory on PC is 73GB big. Holy shit. Why is this game so big?
Nah that does work now. We even get BC games wich had more discs.
To be real fair. Preload wasnt at launch yet.

When they fixed bugs last generation, we could expect a 8 MB day one patch.
This isn't a problem on PS4 though. I don't think I've ever played a game where I've had to wait more than about 30 seconds for it to install. What are Nintendo games like for day one patches?
With GCU savings though....I was able to basically buy two new consoles this gen already. Its fucking absurd how much money you save physical. Nearly $20 every new release from best buy due to GCU + $10 gift card pre order
