Deadpool Could Actually Get a Best Picture Oscar Nomination

Would be great, zero interest in most of the probable noms for most of the Oscar categories. While I'm sure stuff like Moonlight, Fences, Manchester, etc are great movies I almost never watch "sad" / depressing movies.

Dunno though if actually nominating popular movies would actually change people watching, Oscars and other award shows seem like one of those things where either you want to watch or you don't, and who gets nom'd doesn't really change that.

Cool. Ultimately, Deadpool is the movie that I had the most fun with this year. And is that not what movies are for? I certainly had more fun with Deadpool than La La Land or Manchester By the Sea. A movie's purpose was toe entertain, and my lord was I entertained!

I mean personally, if I'm putting a comedy in the Best Picture noms, I'd choose Hunt For The Wilderpeople, Wiener-Dog, Everybody Wants Some!! over Deadpool, but I'm glad to see a variety of movies being nominated if this happens. Obviously, Deadpool being by Fox, they have a bigger marketing budget to spend on an Oscar campaign if they want compared to those other films. Although Everybody Wants Some!! and Wiener-Dog have Annapurna (Foxcatcher, Killing Them Softly, The Master, Zero Dark Thirty, Her, American Hustle, 20th Century Women) as a production company, so could have a chance if they wanted to do it.

I hope Deadpool gets nominated and wins. Watching Disney dance around that would be must see TV.

If Crash can win, why not Deadpool? At least Deadpool is watchable.

oo those would be stronger picks for BP out of the comedies

Deadpool was an absolute joy, but as an actual work of film, I didn't really see it as anything too groundbreaking. In some ways is was even kind of lame in it's tropes.

I don't think it deserves to be the first comic book movie to be nominated for best picture, especially over stuff like The Dark Knight.

But at the same time, it would be kind of hilarious and fitting. Fuck it, I wouldn't be mad.

First the Academy was all like

then they saw Deadpool and were all like

Was getting caught part of your plan?
The fuck? 2016 was great for movies. What are you even talking about?
Most of GAF never looks outside of the blockbuster/commercialism output

Granted, that area was pretty trash this year

PS Watch Manchester by the Sea people

Deadpool is just such an average movie though. Like if you remove the dick jokes and r rated humor you're left with a pretty terrible and boring plot.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is the years best film, and quite easily. Arrival was great too.

People who complain about a lack of good movies don't actually watch movies.
Pretty much. How do you watch movies like The Nice Guys, or Kubo and the Two Strings, or The Wailing, or The Witch, or Arrival and then whine that there's nothing good?

People who judge the quality of a whole year's worth of movies based on the handful of blockbusters they're aware of have no business complaining.

I deeply disliked this movie and I really don't want to live in a world where it gets nominated for Best Picture but The Dark Knight doesn't.

I will say: I've never laughed at a movie so much as I have Deadpool. It may not be thought provoking, but it tells you what it wants to do and does it well.

I don't think it's academy award material though.

It's not hard to get a Best Picture nom now that they insist on putting 10 movies on the list now. No one should be surprised- it's critically acclaimed and an audience favorite.

2009 Oscars and 2017 Oscars are pretty different.

Had Gravity or Mad Max won in their years like IMO they should have I would have agreed, but as it is the only major difference I see is that they expanded the number of nominees. Heck, Little Miss Sunshine was somewhat hyped to win it in 2007 while stuff like Room or Grand Budapest Hotel didn't have a fighting chance.

It's not always 10 exactly. It's probably 8 this year like it's been for the past couple of ones.

Legitimately shocked that this might be a possibility. I liked the movie, but it was forgettable as all hell for me and not worthy of a Best Picture nom. But, worse things have been nominated so I guess I shouldn't be shocked anymore by things like this.

This year was very good for film in my opinion, much better choices than Deadpool.

it wont, lego movie didn't get nominated despite being the best animated movie two years ago. because they're biased against anything that may even appear commercial.

I believe it's up to 10. They don't have to fill all the slots for any category is my understanding. And that's how you only get like 3 films in the Best Animated Film category because the Academy doesn't understand shit about animated films.

It honestly would be the perfect reflection of the Trump presidency.

Just shows how low the bar has been set for achievement.
