Deadpool has broken the record for highest grossing opening weekend at the Russian box office.

The 20th Century Fox film brought in 957.4 million rubles ($13.1 million) in its weekend debut.

Deadpool is surpassing a short-lived record set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December. Episode VII of the Star Wars saga earned $12.3 million at the Russian box office in its opening weekend.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller, with a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, and Leslie Uggams.

Deadpool is now playing in theaters worldwide.

Damn. That record didn't stand long at all. Well deserved, I enjoyed Deadpool more than Episode VII.

Also, god damn, the ruble is weak. Makes the Canadian dollar look like the GBP.

I thought Deadpool's version was a cartoon and that his human form would never work. That's okay because DP thrived on cartoon action.

On the other hand, Daniel Cudmore Colossus was decidedly one of the background mutants because there were so many in the main series. His cameo in X2 was great and IMHO worked better with live acton. Let's not talk about any doofy promo shots or X3.

Nah the rouble is really really low (lost like 40% of its value in the last 18 months) and the price of a ticket is way lower than in the US.
