Deadpool Test Footage Leaked

As a heart attack, Agent X is Deadpool done right. You got Udon Taskmaster, you got Outlaw, you got real jokes, and wacky adventures.

Which was what Deadpool was (except, you know, better) before the Way series.

Plus Deadpool/Cable teamup film > any film ever.

Posting for the new page.

"By KnightGambit - 6/18/2013"

During a panel at the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Convection artist Rob Liefeld told the audience all that happens in the Deadpool Movie Test footage shot last year.

The screen opens and it looks like a fully costumed Deadpool is sitting on a bench. His back is to you... he has earbuds on listening to music and turns to say, while waving, "Oh, hi there!"

He takes his earbuds out and says, "I need to get back to you... I have some business to take care of." Then the camera goes above him and he's now sitting on the edge of a highway overpass.

You see cars driving below him and Deadpool jumps off of the overpass. There's a black SUV going underneath and he crashes through the moon roof. He's then sitting in the backseat next to these two black-suited, Men In Black-like thugs. Deadpool says, "Hey guys, how you doin'?"

Deadpool stabs one while shooting the other. Two guys in front of Deadpool have machine guns and turn to fire at him. He goes low in the SUV and slides down to shoot the two goons. The driver turns in astonishment and Deadpool shoots him.

The driver goes flying out the window and tumbles onto the freeway. There's another SUV that sees this and turns around with more goons bringing out machine guns and start firing at Deadpool while it's driving toward the first SUV. (It is assumed that Deadpool has gotten out of the SUV he smashed into but this is not said clearly by Liefeld.)

Deadpool blocks some incoming bullets with his sword then jumps up high and throws some throwing stars through the windows of the other SUV at the new attackers. The driver of the second SUV doesn't pay attention and hits the first SUV causing the vehicle to flip up into the air.

With the SUV in the air, Deadpool is standing under it while it's still in the air and (apparently this part is a slo-mo sequence) Deadpool takes out a drawing of the driver and shows it to him while he's still in the airborne SUV. Deadpool points at the drawing of the driver and then at the driver. Deadpool then pulls out another drawing of the driver with his head cut off. The driver sees all of this and give Deadpool a "HUH?!" look and sound while the SUV is still in mid-air.

The SUV lands after being airborne and Deadpool approaches the driver, who is now half hanging out of the car. Deadpool reaches for his sword and... SLICE! Chops off the driver's head and it goes rolling off the body. Deadpool sheaths his sword and sees another guy coming toward him on a motorcycle. Deadpool jump kicks him off the bike and at the same time lands on the motorcycle. Now with Deadpool on the bike, he waves to the dude he just kicked off the bike and speeds away on the highway.

The footage was shot by upcoming director Tim Miller who is still attached and written by the Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

This looks a little too polished and finished for internal test footage. I wonder if this is Fox (providing that this is the terms of their deal) 're-upping' the Deadpool rights by showing Marvel that they are developing the project.

If that sounds a little strange just look at Warren Beatty's attempts over the years to maintain the Dick Tracy rights. At one point Warren Beatty filmed himself, dressed as Dick Tracy, being interviewed and said this Q&A was proof he was still developing a Dick Tracy project and thus should be allowed to keep the rights.

Weird.

There is literally no way Fox would ever make this an R rated film as A) it's a Marvel property and B) Fox don't make R rated films unless they get held hostage by a director aka Prometheus.
Marvel let people make R rated Punisher movies.

What's Marvel got to do with Fox? Marvel/Disney and Fox don't like each other and the Deadpool rights are Fox's to do with (to a certain extent) as they please.

Fox don't make R Rated films. I'm not 100% sure now but when Tom Rothman ran the place is was a 'studio rule'.

Video looks great. I would like this to be created as a CGI film by Blur Studios... But FOX is not interested in Deadpool right now. They have boarded train of "building cinematic universes".

So launch Deadpool in the rumored X-Force movie and then give him a solo outing.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Secondly, while there's nothing technically stopping Fox from doing a Deadpool deal with Marvel, there's also nothing stopping Fox from handing over Galactus, Wolverine, or any number of other things they have movie rights for. It's just not going to happen.

Well, that's more or less what I said. I'm just saying technically it's not all (The whole X-Men license) or nothing. I also agree it's very unlikely they'd give him up. He's way too popular a character now.

That's not how the contracts work. They need to be in production (as in shooting) for it to count. Daredevil had a director and was very much in development when Fox lost the rights.

It might be a different licensing agreement/rights deal for each property. I know that there are deals where all the studio/production company needs to do it SHOW that they are actively developing the property/project and then they are granted a rights extension.

As I said before this is what Warren Beatty has been doing for years with the Dick Tracy rights. At one point the rights holder (Kings Syndicate?????) even took him to court over the rights.

IMO, even though it was only test footage, the clip just highlighted the problem of having the main character always wear a mask.

they could do an all CGI movie so Deadpool could have cartoony proportions and do "facial expressions" like in the comics.

Kinda like the 2007 TMNT movie, that was really good!

I've always had difficulty getting to like this character, but I did like him in the Wolverine film and this test footage looks pitch perfect. Would definitely watch a movie like this. Better make sure it's a strong R as shown though :) Anything else just isn't doing him justice.

Man, I doubted Ryan Reynolds when he was Deadpool in Origins.
That movie still sucks btw The Wolverine was better.
But mannn I think he'd make a great Deadpool than Green Lantern now. I rather Fox Release this than another Wolverine film TBH

Yeah, I just don't think that's the case here. I'm relatively certain the deals were pretty much the same at all of the studios (which they all wouldn't have had a problem signing since it's very generously in their favor). The only differences being which characters they got. This is why Fox had to start SHOOTING the new Fantastic Four movie this year. They would have lost the rights if they hadn't.

Either way, it's definitely not the case here. All evidence points to it being old footage and with the Deadpool rights being tied in to the X-Men rights, any X-Men movie would count towards their fulfillment (the same way Elektra did for Daredevil). They could never use Deadpool again and still keep the rights as long as they keep making X-Men movies (or anything related actually).

Damn, I've been waiting to see this for a long time. Impressive. It's finally "leaked" right after SDCC and Deadpool is coming to Marvel Puzzle Quest next week, a new Pinball FX table, and how many limited series has he been in over the last few years? Like 10? This movie would be too much of a cash cow for Fox to pass up on.

I just don't want Blind Al to be in it, that wouldn't transfer to the screen very well. Just keep it simple- make him go out on a contract that goes very awry, thrown in a super villian or 3, show a little of his past in Weapon X, add a love interest with Siryn or Vanessa. This doesn't need to be super expensive to make.

Blur needs to do a film. Their stuff is fantastic.
They've talked about it a few times. If they ever did it would be a big risk since anatomically correct cg human beings often translate to box office stinkers. No one likes that valley of uncanny!

Fair enough. But everything about this footage just seems so weird to me. Why is the protagonist CGI? Would he really be that way throughout the entire film?!

It looks really expensive and strangely wasteful if it really is 'just' test footage for the studio.

It's definitely weird that it's all CG. I'm going to guess that since the movie was going to be directed by Tim Miller, it was either cheaper or easier (or both) for Blur to do it instead of filming it live action. Tim Miller is one of the co-founders of Blur. I wouldn't be surprised if they planned on Blur doing a lot of the VFX for the movie as well and this was part of the selling point.

Fox and Sony are just too damn slow when it comes to producing comic movies. Those two studios aren't on the ball.

Test footage looked great though

That was a bit too much Waypool right there. They could have removed the whole "ow ow ow" shit when he was getting elbowed and some other stuff. Anyways, I'll be there to see the movie in theaters in day one regardless (should it ever come out, which it won't).

Is Deadpool suppose to act like Jim Carrey in The Mask? Because that's EXACTLY what the character was like in the clip. Slightly toned down in wackiness, but basically that

a bit overboard on the silliness/hyperactivity but far from Waypool. I don't think anything he did there would be out of place in his older appearances, it just all went by really fast.

And obviously they're not going to get into the darker side of the character in a super short trailer. At any rate not worried about Reynolds playing him, seems like a great fit.

A little "too much" deadpool at times but it's whatever. Sad that Fox didn't jump on this earlier when Reynolds was a bit "bigger" in hollywood and still had some good press. I wonder if the window for him being in it has closed for most people

Meh, I think it could have been better. The timing felt off for the "jokes". I love Deadpool, but I feel it wasn't as good as it could be. I don't want to be negative towards a Deadpool movie because I REALLY want one, but... I don't know... :/

The face was CGI, that's an interesting way to add expression to a masked superhero.

That was pretty neat, is this project going forward or what?

Marvel let people make R rated Punisher movies.

And yet Punisher Warzone is one of the worst comic book movies ever made.

That's a good point, but Deadpool does do a good job conveying expression and emotion through exaggerated body language, which I think would translate well to the bit screen.

Eh, I still think facial expression is fundamental.

Kinda like the 2007 TMNT movie, that was really good!

That's exactly what I was thinking, haha.

Make Deadpool a violent, 18- or 15-rated animated film.

Or somehow do the Green Lantern mask right and mocap the actor's expressions and then animate the mask accordingly.

So that article that keeps getting reposted is a year-old transcript of Rob Liefeld incorrectly reporting what the video looks like, while also incorrectly describing the test footage as being "shot" by a director who didn't shoot anything because it's a CGI proof-of-concept made by Blur studios? Is that right? That's what it looks like to me.

Anyway, io9 has their copy embedded in their site with their own player, if you haven't seen it yet.

(you guys gotta stop going to ComicBookMovie.com)

Damn!!!!

That actually looked awesome. Would have been a hard R but it should be if it's going to be Deadpool. Such a shame it has been dead in the water for a long ass time now.

Nothing about that says R to me, let alone hard-R.
The decapitation is completely offscreen and there have even been neck snaps with sound effects in PG movies.

I wouldn't go that far. It definitely created and lives in its own bubble. There are far worse comic book films out there than punisher war zone.
