Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon officially announced w/ Raidho!

Atlus knows how to milk this limited edition stuff now after seeing how much their old games were going for on eBay. Notice how they said 'Should there be future print runs of the game, they will ship without the Raiho collectible.' so that means the entire first printing will have this included which is what, 200k copies? The Persona 4 'limited edition' Bonus Extras are still available with the game on Amazon.com.

I usually pre-order at Gamestop so that I can use my discount (haven't done it yet - still at work), but I also just pre-ordered with Amazon just to be safe.

I can always just cancel one of them as time draws near.

Dammit, another PS2 game i will probably buy, although I have not played the first Devil Summoner released in 2006 at all. PS2....the legend will never die, because Atlus won't let it.

YYYYESSSSSSSSSSSSS SMT! SMT! SMT!

I will also echo the sentiment that Atlus today is what Square was to me in the PS1 days. Just keep giving me like 2 SMT games per year and I will be your best buddy for life.

Every copy of the game comes with it, hence the launch being limited to begin with. If you don't, feel free to bitch to the ends of the world at GameStop. (I would do the same)

That really depends on how they box the plush. I've noticed that a few GS like to "put away" the pre-order bonuses for themselves or a little fellow called eBay.

Don't hold your breath on finding out how very soon, considering the game doesnt come out for over three months. Regardless, it's not even something that comes in limited quantities (at least referring to less than the amount of game copies that come), so if your copy of the game doesn't get a plush, you KNOW they took it.

Pretty much so, but it's the norm here. Last time I recall a thing like this working out well was back when Lunar 2 released with the Ghaleon punching puppets :lol .

Wow I didn't know Kazuma Kaneko *Directed* this game! Now I have to at least give it a try :/
I could be wrong but I believe the director of both is Kazuyuki Yamai, Kaneko is responsible for the art direction. I haven't seen credits for Raidou 2 yet but I heard Kaneko was a bit more involved with the first game.

Preordered from Amazon. Even if the Raiho is part of the package and not a bonus, I feel safer preordering there as opposed to Gamestop. It seems I will be eternally bitter about not getting my P4 Artbook bonus from them.

Also, for anyone here with Amazon Prime: With all the awesome games coming in the next few months (half of which are from Atlus), I decided to try the Amazon Prime trial. If I cancel it before the trial ends, will the stuff I preordered that comes out after the trial (such as Raidou here) still get the free shipping?

Isn't this Devil Summoner 4?

Technically. I don't think they've ever numbered them, though. Soul Hackers was never called Devil Summoner 2, IIRC.

It is Raidou 2, though. It's also the second Devil Summoner to come out here. Either one are viable reasons for calling it as such.

Could anyone elaborate on this? Want to know if it's true.

To be honest, I would be a little disappointed if this wasn't Kaneko game. Just because I would like to see him have more influence in how future SMT games are made.

From the pre-order email:

You know what's better than a huge action RPG sequel that improves on its predecessor in every conceivable way, adding tons of depth to combat, demon collection, and story? Why, a huge action RPG sequel with all of that AND a huge title. Ignore when people say that the length of a game's title is not important, that a title should just convey what the game is about. They're just jealous theirs isn't as long.

... from an email with a title so long that it has to abbreviate to SMT.

Just preorded this game from amazon. I didn't see anything on the site about the doll, but I assume I will still get it as it is bundled with the game? I really want one as it will go great with my teddie doll!

Yeah, it's not a preorder bonus, but is being packaged in with all initial print copies of the game.

Raidou 2 is undoubtedly a "Kaneko game." The Raidou games are the ones he's had the most influence on in this franchise. Kaneko's always been a designer and as long as he's working on MegaTen games I think he'll always have at least an artistic involvement in many of the games made, that's how I see it.

Doesn't seem like he has had much of a role lately. P3 and P4 were arguably Atlus biggest titles and I don't see any hint of him at all. Just a little worried about P4 to be honest. I think whatshisname did a admirable job trying to emulate Kaneko's style in P3, but all that seems to be gone in P4.

Hmm... I'm a fan of P3 & P4, however I haven't seen much of the Devil Summoner stuff. I checked out some videos and it looks pretty awesome. What's the combat like though? It's action, but is it menu driven? Wiki articles didn't help much.

And here I thought P4 would be my last PS2 game. :lol

Not too sure about your question, my guess would be no?

Either way, I've been a Prime user for sometime now, and I'd say it's worth every penny. If you order from Amazon with any kind of regularity, it's a godsend. I can't imagine using Amazon without it.

It's deeper this time around. You have Devil May Cry 3 style movement of dodges and blocks to avoid enemies, different types of weapons with different combos, 2 demons usable at the same time, and most importantly full control over your demons like a turn baseed game. Oh and you have the ability to pull your demons next to you and make them invisible/invincible by holding L2. This means for the defensive side of playing when a boss throws out an attack you can hold L2 and then just concentrate on dodging DMC style with Raidou. Then on the attack you can just do it turn-based style with assigning commands (you can set a command to repeat infinitely as well). You hit the enemy weakness which stuns them and then you slash them and green MP balls come out and refill your MP. Repeat for battles.
2) It's still easy. I mean if you are terrible at gaming it could be hard, but if you're smart enough to use the right elements against the right weaknesses and hold L2 and dodge attacks, you're good for the whole game. Levels mean next to nothing, which is actually a huge plus because it means you can skip random battles (with a lower encounter item) and blow through areas whenever you don't feel like fighting. The fights are ALWAYS fun, which is important to note. The battle system is really enjoyable and boss fights are neat like action game bosses. BUT it is very easy and non-stressful outside a couple of bosses, so the hardcore players will still grief about it.

The franchise has undoubtedly gone in multiple directions since Nocturne, I'm not going to worry unless he has little involvement with SMTIV.

Thanks to you and Bebop for that. I have some idea now. I don't mind if it's a bit simple. For some reason, I just got it in my head that this could be some Odin Sphere nonsense. I wasn't a fan of that game and it's simplicity. Judging by the media released, I presume we can expect the same level of polish (consistent framerate) from P3 and P4?

Raidou 1 didn't have any framerate drops, and Odin Sphere wasn't developed Atlus, so it isn't relevant.

Just pre-ordered this and Pokemon Platinum.

Devil Summoner popped my SMT cherry, and I loved the damn game...so I can't wait to get my hands on this.

Great to know the first installment had a solid technological foundation. I also knew Odin Sphere wasn't Atlus developed. :)

is the first one and second one correlated? ahh so ironic how most of my gametime in the ps3 is with ps2 games.
