Digital Foundry - Assassin's Creed Unity patch analysed

Ubisoft really are on fire lately. They've officially taken the place EA used to occupy a few years back.

Didn't pretty much all of their PS360 games run like shit too, with tons of screen tearing to sweeten the deal? They're just back to their usual old ways. AC4 and WD were cross-gen anomalies with their solid performance.

I am enjoying Unity, but I still think that it is safe to say that Ubisoft finally hit the wall with this series. The best thing that can happen is that they take a break from it for about 3 years and go back to the drawing board for a complete reboot. But unfortunately, the suits who want to pump them out annually will never let that happen.

Publishers had cold feet when next gen was announced.

We saw this when Japan decided to exit consoles, and the West was shoveling cross-gen titles onto PS4/XBO.

Because of that, new games like Ass Creed probably weren't given the proper time and money to have a nice frame rate because Publishers still had theirs eyes on PS3/360.

Now that next gen consoles are actually a success and PS3/360 are winding down, Publishers will take them serious again.

I highly doubt this game will ever run good. Or ever *was* going to. They were asking too much.

It won't be the first game to use such beautiful tech and have the consoles not be able to handle it. Lords of the Fallen drops into the low 20s too. and it's graphics were scaled way back from the PC.

Now we know what they meant when they said we could notice improvement in fps. But I have some doubt a human person could notice a 1% of boost in the fps. Good Lord the fps in this game, it's just... atrocious. I mean, we are not talking of an 'acceptable' 25 fps in the struggle scenario, I see 19-20 fps happens tons of times. What a shame.

PS4 already has some great looking exclusives with solid framerates so it's definitely not just a hardware problem.

My god, this is terrible, look at when he's running in heavy crowded areas it goes around 20-24 fps, sometime it even go at 19. o_O

I hope this will be a humbling experience for Ubisoft.

Probably not.

To be fair, they said they are working on a next patch that will specifically address the frame rate. I think this patch was mainly about bug fixing and only marginally about performance optimization.
