I said I didn't want to post any more but this post is so incredibly insane I need to highlight it.Yes, it takes longer to filter the textures and causes more pop in.
Lower resolution and lower frame rate but XB1 has the edge because of texture filtering
jokes aside
Hopefully we will see this trend continue, XB1 ports have been pretty shoddy in comparison to the PS4 so far.
That's not how PS4 version actually look, it's texture streaming issue where textures takes short times to load, that problem in PS4 happens only happen in cutscenes.
So, if it's just a streaming issue, why is DF being so disingenuous? If every PS4 shot is just a millisecond thing, why did they not take that into consideration? They seem to excuse framerate drops if the whole of the performance is steady, why not go by the same barometer for texture steams? This is why you don't use still images to highlight a temporary streaming issue. People who don't bother reading the article will just assume the game always looks like that.
I JUST watched this cutscene on the PS4 and there was no texture streaming issue with that red flag. I have an upgraded 1.5 tb HDD (same RPM as stock) with a full install of the game.
Damn. I'll take more detail and give up a bit of resolution any day. 900p is more than sufficient for me. What I care about is better texture filtering, effects, etc.
Oh god! 1080p doesnt mean much if textures look like a blurred mess. Terrible.

Where does this cutscene take place? What chapter?I JUST watched this cutscene on the PS4 and there was no texture streaming issue with that red flag. I have an upgraded 1.5 tb HDD (same RPM as stock) with a full install of the game.
Yes, there is a texture streaming problem visible in the gif. How you come to the conclusion that is because of texture filtering is the insane part. How is it insane? There is clearly more pop-in happening on the PS4.

Hmmm, the good ol' UE texture streaming problem. Weird they didn't get rid of it on the PS4.
More like dev's showing what they're not capable ofGood to see the Xbone closing the gap and devs showing what it is capable of.

Yes, it takes longer to filter the textures and causes more pop in. My point stands. I'll take a bit less resolution if it means I can have better texture filtering and more detail. The Xbox One version just looks a bit better to me and apparently Digital Foundry thinks so as well.

It's almost Polygon levels of bad.
Also (and I know this has been brought up sooo many times lately), I love how last gen a few lines of less resolution in the PS3 version was a major deal, but now that the PS4 version has a 44% resolution advantage it doesn't matter.
Good to see the Xbone closing the gap and devs showing what it is capable of.
it's bizarre to see people who have been poring over PS4 screenshots only now become aware of its consistent shortcomings in texture filtering. not that the xbone has been doing much better.
we had this all out in november: http://neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=711760
OMFG Ps4 LOSEd! XbONE WINS!

Seriously though, im sure each system will have its games to point to and say "look! x game runs better on ours!". Its all about which games are actually good.
DF mentions that the pictures are streaming issues in the captions and the article. The problem is people are posting the pictures with no comment, and anyone not reading the article is assuming and making up their own conclusion.
They should have used animated .gifs to make it clear.
Record it for us so we can expose DF as frauds. Doing a comparison while the PS4 version is still installing just stinks of Leadbetter.

The pop in is only initially loading new areas or during cutscenes judging by the article, once loaded the levels themselves are fine. Not saying your preference is wrong, just adding info

Perhaps it can be a bit tiring to read uneducated drive-by posts when they're quite numerous and occur every single time something like this happens. I'm not quite sure what you take issue with about my post, logically it makes little sense to write out a reply to my post if you find fault in it for "jumping to the distractions". In fact much of the last few pages are a large group of people arguing with one person who wasn't expressing himself eloquently or making a strong point. I find much more of an issue with that than what I did in pointing out widespread behavioral problems but you had no comment towards them when that was pretty recent. And I could make a list of quotes of people who jumped on the bias train without really reading the article but I'm not sure how that would solve anything besides effectively asking for posts laughing at a wall of shame instead of really discussing the issue that I'm pointing out.
But if you want me to stop expressing distaste for ignorant and often hypocritical in regards to bias posts that's simply not going to happen when it's so common. I did however keep it to one post until you felt it was worth questioning the validity of it in a thread with lots of much less constructive posting going on. Not to mention that my post wasn't only calling out other people but also giving a take about how such a thing like this with the Xbox One having arguable superior IQ is possible which many don't seem to understand. So thanks but no thanks.
So we have to deal with the kneejerk "DF is biased" garbage every time they favor an Xbox One game? I suppose the people parroting that haven't read the last dozen DF comparisons, especially since they obviously didn't read this article.
It seems those people want a comparison of "which console is more powerful" as if their personal choice needs to be affirmed nonstop. Nobody would ever deny that the PS4 is more powerful, that shouldn't need to constantly be reiterated as that's not what is being analyzed. It's not hard to understand that running a game at a higher resolution and framerate can lead to other things being bumped down, sometimes things that matter quite a bit.
It's not really some earth shattering result and calling any criticism of the PS4 version of a game bias means you pretty much don't want actual graphical analysis and instead want the console you own to be praised at every opportunity with anything else being heresy. No matter how valid it is.
I fail to see why would any game look better on Xbox One, aside from the game being a bad port.

some things are better, some things are worse. the performance costs of each of those things is something we can only make educated guesses at. which looks better and which looks worse is a matter of opinion in cases like this. this isn't a case like Strider where the Xbox One version undoubtedly wins, or Tomb Raider where the PS4 version undoubtedly wins. Here we have pros and cons on both sides, so choosing a winner is based on how you weight those pros and cons against each other, and that's a matter of opinion.
Have any PS4 exclusives had anisotropic filtering missing?
First Strider and now this.
I'm surprised the PS4 still have issues with such things as textures.
I thought the PS3 had these because the Cell was a complicated mess to program for.
This should probably be put in the OP via an update, it's a very logical answer.PS4 allows you play the game while it is being installed. DF most likely didn't let the game install fully before testing it hence the delay in streaming textures. So in the end, the way DF tested it, PC and Xbone was streaming from the hdd while PS4 was streaming from the disc while trying to install the game to the hdd at the same time.
Because in the real world only one goes forward. The other just....sits there or something.Good to see the Xbone closing the gap and devs showing what it is capable of.
Wait a minute... You want to see a trend of shitty-running games on both platforms with terrible PS4 ports that somehow manage to misuse a 40% power advantage by focusing on the wrong areas? You want games with terrible frame rate hitches, unimpressive visuals, and general low graphics quality?jokes aside
Hopefully we will see this trend continue, XB1 ports have been pretty shoddy in comparison to the PS4 so far.
interestingFYI guys, it is important to point here that this is more of a bug instead of difference in power. Maybe a bug in the current SDK for PS4, i have no idea TBH.
The same happened with Strider on the PS4, and it wasn't even an issue on X360/PS3 version like it was on the PS4.
