Dishonored 2 |OT| The Edge of the World

#1

Revenge solves everything...

Dishonored 2 is set 15 years after the Lord Regent has been vanquished and the dreaded Rat Plague has passed into history. An otherworldly usurper has seized Empress Emily Kaldwin’s throne, leaving the fate of the Isles hanging in the balance. As Emily or Corvo, travel beyond the legendary streets of Dunwall to Karnaca, the once-dazzling coastal city that holds the keys to restoring Emily to power.
Armed with the Mark of the Outsider and powerful new abilities, track down your enemies and take back what’s rightfully yours. Dishonored 1 canon events

As fully voiced characters, Emily Kaldwin and Corvo Attano now bring their own perspectives and emotional responses to the world and story. Use each character’s set of powers, gadgets and uniquely-tuned weapons in creative ways as you explore the world – whether you fight your way through the city streets or sneak across the rooftops - and which enemies you decide to eliminate or spare.

Karnaca, also known as "The Jewel of the South at the Edge of the World", is the capital city of Serkonos, located in the eastern portion of the nation and at the southernmost tip of the Empire.
It will serve as the main setting of Dishonored 2.

Billed as a major metropolis where cultures and customs from all over the Empire are integrated into daily life, Karnaca is heavily favored as a tourist destination for the elite and upper classes Karnaca maintains its own notable police force, the Grand Serkonan Guard, which serves as both the military and urban protection.

Can't wait for my Collecter Edition tomorrow. Shall do a "Batwoman" run first aka Non-lethal with Emily, which probably won't be a ghost run too, despite going to use stealth.

Very nice OT Salsa. Man, I just want to get so lost in something right now.

The original title was one of the best surprises that year for me. Question though, I thought the game was out on the 10? At least, that's what my gamestop pre-order says.

Pre-orders can get the game a day early, Nov 10. Everyone else can buy on the 11th.

Not quite the same gap as some other games this year, but definitely an early-access pre-order incentive.

Is it okay if I just jump into this straight if I just watch all the cutscenes and read up on the story? Don't really feel like rushing through the first game to play this (since I preordered it from the great footage I've seen).

You should be good to go. There is short recap of D1 at beginning during opening cutscenes.

So... Corvo or Emily? Emily's powers seem cooler but how can I deny myself some Stephen Russell?
I'm really torn on this, more so than I probably should be! Continue Corvo's tale, or see the new city through Emily's eyes, as this almost seems to be the narrative intent or setup of the sequel timeline etc (from what I can tell)?

Having said that, I want to finish Knife of Dunwall/Brigmore Witches first... so I really need to get cracking with that.

I haven't been following the game too closely, but one preview I read said that Emily's moveset is more about creating chaos. Don't quote me on that.
Her powers seem super useful for stealth

Mesmerize guards and making them forget you were there
Non-lethally clearing entire rooms through Domino
Using your decoy to distract guards, or swapping places with the decoy

All great stealth tools

I've only played a very, very small bit of this so far but I've already had a moment where I realized that we're fully back in business: I
climbed on some shelves, up a pipe, and then on to the top of a moving rail train
, which instantly bypassed the second half of the first level.

It's Dishonored alright.

Any totally non-spoilery impressions?

Is this true? Bummer. I was hoping to play as a stealth Emily first time through. Then be a bitter old murderous Corvo.
I'm taking it super slow [done just prologue and on M1 with a lot hours burned]. Game is basically Dishonored 1 with character selection and tons of polish and tuning on what Dishonored 1 did.

I'm playing as Emily and she feels just fine in 100% no kills and ghost gameplay. Because how her "blink" functions you just more timing in its use, but she has that creepy crawly smokeform that seems to be super good for stealthing. Playing on Hard.

I'm gonna not quote you, Badass, so as not to be spoiled on powers, but I'm glad to see Emily has stealth potential. I'll probably stick with that gameplan for a first playthrough.

Even though high chaos is way more fun.

Tovarisc, even though you're early in the game, if it's basically a more polished/refined version of the first, I'm gonna have a great time with it.

Man, I love the art direction in this series. The world is just so fascinating. I'd put Dunwall and the entire world/history of Dishonored up there with Rapture, City 17, and the Metro. Karnaca looks like a great upgrade from Dunwall

Warning to PC gamers, this is an id Tech 5 game, and it runs like ass. Also mouse smoothing issues in menus, and vsync appears to be broken.

For reference; RAGE, Wolfenstein, and The Evil Within are id Tech 5 games. DOOM is id Tech 6. Dishonored 1 is Unreal Engine 3.

Special shout outs should be given to StealthGamerBR and Volund on YouTube. Their Dishonored 1 videos are amazing and anyone here who hasn't seen them should definitely give them a watch.

Yeah the world of Dishonored is definitely one of my favorites. Lots of stuff to explore for future games.

Disappointing. Could we please stop developing games with this engine already?

3 hours in, playing as Emily. Exploring the main hub currently.

One of the coolest things I wasn't prepared for is the bloodflies, which basically replace the rats from the first game as a frequent environmental hazard. They're wasps that nest in both traditional "honeycombs" and in corpses, and seem to substitute blood for nectar.

They're also hyper aggressive and swarm all over anything that gets close to them in a pretty gruesome fashion. I haven't found a good way to deal with them that doesn't involve molotovs laying around nearby (or, provided there's food nearby for easy healing, Emily flailing her sword around wildly and getting stung a ton).

Stealth games never appealed to me much, until I played Dishonored. That is, unless you count Assassin's Creed.

Dishonored blew me away and was right up there for GOTY for me. I loved it.

Really looking forward to starting this soon.

PS. All copies come with a code for Dishonored DE, right?

I have not played the first, know little about the series at all. Where is there a summary of the two characters and their abilities? Not sure who to play as an why.

Honestly, because it isn't a stealth game. You have the option to play stealthly, but it's more immersive sim-y, play how you want, than Thief's or Splinter Cell's stealth focus. That wider umbrella makes the not sneaking as exciting and thrilling as sneaking.

Any loud noise works. Just throw it past them and scoot past. Super easy to deal with so far

You should really play the first, first. The world is one of the best in gaming, and the gameplay is like a lovecraftian/steampunky Deus Ex, in how each missions offers different ways to approach objectives

Preloaded and ready to go. One of my favorite games of last gen next to Red Dead Redemption.

Yup. It's art style is so tastefully done. It still holds up shockingly well even compared to contemporary games. It really shouldn't be missed. It has a ton of replay value too which can really surprise you in many ways.
