Dissidia Final Fantasy ARCADE ANNOUNCED! [Update: Trailer + Info]

Oh shit, arcades must still be standing strong in Japan. I knew they were lasting longer there when Street Fighter IV dropped in 09, but I thought by now they'd be on their way out there like they've been here for more than a decade.

So uh, are we allowed to port beg? Because I want to port beg. Teaser looks great. Really hope this gets localized.

And nice to see Lightning being promoted in her XIII costume, because that's the only good outfit she had. It was all down hill from there.

I would also like to port beg

Everyone seems to be clamoring for their favorite characters. I rather hope they would choose characters that might lend to interesting playstyles instead.
Given what you said:

I'm not a fan of Rinoa as a character but between her bizarre kite weapon, her Angel Wing magic chains and her aggressive dog bodyguard, some really weird/neat medium-ranged combat could happen.

I'd love to see Palom & Porom as a single playable character with occasional Twin moves and lots of clever buffer/cancel stuff with non-Twin attacks.

Edgar from FFVI might be kind of a blast with heavy emphasis on the Tools command. Ditto for Mog.

Seifer, Seymour, and Vayne all ought to make it in for sure. Wouldn't mind seeing gunner-Yuna incorporated with some job transformations, too (and Dissidia's story is already bizarre enough that they could have Yuna meet her younger summoner self).

Looked like Final Fantasy Z with all the Chaos

I want it!

Since it's an arcade game, I think it's safe to speculate/wish[beg] for the inevitable port.

Edgar is my most wanted from VI because I know his tools will be a lot of fun. Plus the image of Edgar chasing Zidane with a chainsaw is strangely amusing to me.

No Squall in the trailer, I am disappointed.

They should have made a new song for the trailer btw. Does anyone know the name of the final song? It's from Dissidia 012 IIRC but I don't know the name.

Pretty damn good, I think. You don't have a game with Cloud and Lightning in and not make it widely available.

On the other hand, it''s S-E.

Yeah. You would have to think that there's way to much money on the table for them not to do a console release at some point down the road, similar to the way Namco handles the Gundam Extreme Vs. series.

What are the odds it'll hit Ps4?

Probably high? Just not anytime soon. They'll want to milk the arcade for at least half a year imo, and the game doesn't look like it's hitting the arcades anytime soon either. If it's anything like how Bandai Namco handles the Gundam VS games, the home version will also be behind the arcade version in terms of roaster.

Not the only good outfit, the PSICOM uniform from 012 and LR's ballgown were both decent; but I agree that the vast majority of her later outfits were awful. Hopefully the focus on 3v3 leads to an expanded selection of costumes for all the cast - perhaps giving each individual costume 6 palette swaps in order to minimise recolours dominating the selection would also be a good idea, the first game was terrible about that.

Wasn't the Prelude arrangement new, at least?

This version of the Dissidia main theme is probably the one from the Duodecim TGS trailer.

Between this game, Namco's Tekken 7 and Pokken, Capcom's new Attack on Titan game and probably some other recently announced arcade games I am forgetting, one would think this is the case indeed. On the other hand we have a company like Sega, one with an exceptionally strong arcade legacy (heck Outrun 2 alone seems have kept arcades afloat), pulling out of the arcade business completely.

In other words, nobody really seems to know for sure how Japan's arcade market is doing...? If anyone here can, please enlighten us.

Arcade only means I have almost 0 interest on this.

Besides Japan, I don't think many countries still have lots and lots of arcades these days.

Hopefully they'll port to something later.

Yes. Fresh beginning for the games. Basically, Tekken style.

Why you say is not high budget? Seems decently high budget to me. In any case, is this coming to Ps4 for what you know? Is this game a complete reboot or connections to Dissidia gameplay style and type of RPG are still strong?

I've been wishing for a new Dissidia for years. Really interesting to see 3 on 3 battles.

Can't wait to see more details on this.

I'm guessing this will be in arcades around this time next year. Maybe late 2015. Console version will probably be September time next year.

Dont most arcade games wait til somewhere around the second or third version before hoe release?

Ugh. I don't want a gimped version of this. Give me the full version or don't bother.

Why would this come to arcades first? Did Square honestly believe there wasn't demand for a console Dissidia game?

Do you want to buy a new 30,000 dollar always online console which can only play this game, and then pay Square Enix 10 cents every time you or any of your friends play a match on such a console? :)

Generally, when people think big budget on GAF, they tend to think of big productions like Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, or Final Fantasy XV if we use an SE example. I've seen plenty of occasions where posters refer to titles like Knack or MLB as small releases. Those games look pretty good though, and it's not like the budget behind them is weak or extremely lacking, even if they don't have the kind of investment that major tentpole releases have. There's this huge middle ground that everyone ignores.

At most I'd be willing to pay $2000 for a round trip ticket to play this thing, but who are we kidding, I don't love square that much.

People forget there's a middle ground, yes. But! Perfo thought Lightning Returns was an AAA game (without understanding what AAA actually means). He thinks everything that comes from Square Enix with the FF brand attached is a 'high budget' game. Probably better not to encourage him.

In the end there's always a caveat of relativity. For SE this is probably a 'mid-budget' game, but to an indie developer the amount of money SE is pouring into this is probably ridiculous.

Ok, that's what you mean ^^ thx!

Fuck that noise, keep the console version up to date with DLC!
Yes. Fresh beginning for the games. Basically, Tekken style.

PS4 version confirmed? Yessss. Hopefully it comes out at least by the end of 2016. It would be right to assume this will come out after FFXV, at least for console, right?

Well you don't need any single player content for arcade game so it's probably much faster to develop arcade only version first.

That's true, which is why I try to think of it how a lot of GAF would if I say something.

Main theme is hype as always.

Nice to see this brand still around, I enjoyed the first PSP game (never got to play the second).

Awww, Tia/Terra looks so cute! *Oh perfect light...* Dissidia is SO fun, and the idea of it basically becoming a Gundam EX VS style game for arcade play is perfect.

When this eventually comes to consoles (and yes I'm speaking more than PS4), I'd be perfectly fine with it being one release that expands over the years. Just keep adding characters, stages, and costumes to your hearts content! Can't say I'd buy them all, but I'd probably get quite a lot of it.

I'd love to see characters like Sabin finally get into the game. And I'd love to see this game used as a vehicle to promote any FF products that are release. Square needs a series where they can continually promote awareness and growth of all their FF brands. Much like how Bandai Namco can continually keep even the oldest Gundam series relevant with the games and the Build Fighters Anime.

I'll never understand why classic-legacy companies like Capcom and Konami don't have more product platforms *especially on consoles* that celebrate their entire back catalogues. Much like Nintendo does with SMASH. Not only should it make a great Fan-Service product when done correctly, but it should promote official sales of the old products, as well as keep interest in revivals of any financial level (Cellphone, Portable, Console Download, Console Retail) constantly flowing. It just seems like such a no-brainer.

OK, after seeing that trailer I'm hyped.

What are the chances of SE including 2 heroes and 2 villains of each series?

Maybe for some games like FFX or VII where not only do they have 3 characters after Duodecim, but also have a candidate for a villain. Also XIII might get that if we count the XIII trilogy as one.

Still no Ramza and Delita?

The game has only just been announced and we've only seen one newcomer so far from XIV. Don't write Tactics characters off just yet.
