I've always heard most of them are fakes but then again, snuff films may have been an urban legend before the Internet. With the Internet now, they've unfortunately become reality.
Oh and as mentioned in my edit, I saw "split face" which was one of the worst things I've seen on the Internet.

It's funny I can easily watch the most gruesome, gory, disturbing or fucked up movie ever kinda easily...if it's fictional or at least a reenactment.
On the other hand I can't stand to watch anything gruesome that it's actually real footage.
I watched Dead Alive when I was 11 years old, it was fun! I can and have easily watched movies like A Serbian Movie, Irreversible, Martyrs, Human Centipede, Ichi the Killer and others.
A couple months ago I saw a recording of a family barbecue where a cousin of mine broke his leg/foot playing soccer. His foot was in an strange unnatural position, he was crying very low in pain. It was deeply, deeply unsettling, there was a lot of people surrounding him completely in silence, no one would touch him for some minutes, I think they were afraid to hurt him, and there wasn't even a drop of blood. I got the shivers just from remembering it.
I couldn't watch those beheading recordings terrorist did some years ago, and yet I've seen much worse things on movies done in a very realistic way.

I hate the sounds of people chewing more than the visuals. Especially if they smack their lips together alot? Or do that thing where they take 2/3 bites before they start chewing. Like someones' gonna take their food away from them.

A filming of a murder doesn't have to be made with profit in mind to qualify as snuff. If it's done for someone's pleasure it can be considered snuff. The Armin Meiwes footage would definitely be considered snuff had it not been destroyed. While I haven't seen it I'd argue that 1 lunatic 1 icepick qualifies as well although it supposedly doesn't contain footage of the actual murder. Havent't seen 3 guys 1 hammer either but it's arguably borderline. Supposedly the killers hoped to make money off of making snuff films but there seems to be no confirmation that it was the motive behind the the 3 guys 1 hammer video.
The one you're talking about is fake. There are TONS of sites that cater to "snuff" porn.

I dont ever turn off my xbox, sit down with a pizza and the intent to watch them but iv seen plenty.
Id argue that about 60% of what iv seen is real some of it was obvious fake (about 5%) the other 35% im undecided on and some iv seen and iv just knew that it was real.
Im using Snuff as a Blanket term to apply to all murder/suicide/death related videos.

Back in my first days of the internet, friends and I used to see how far we could get through rotten.com. Never got far before it became too much, this was as 10 year olds and far less desensitized than now

Looking back I'm not sure what the hell that was about... Watching the stuff makes me feel bad, & sometimes really sad (child war victims especially). Though sometimes curiosity still gets the best of me (some recent examples being split face diver, Kenyan 'witch' burnings and people of Christian faith being hunt, in the most literal sense, down in Indonesia).

Yeah, that particular subcategory is quite prevalent. There are tons of posed photos of hangings and such on deviantART, and I have seen quite a few videos of fake hangings on Youtube. It's usually just leg shots of harnessed swinging, and most likely actually guys at that. Though there's no actual nudity or anything, I'm surprised Youtube lets them stay up.

I'll check Liveleak every now and then, but not for snuff videos. Shit like 1 lunatic 1 icepick I stay away from. I know what goes on in those videos, but I prefer not to watch them.
