I'm going with UT99.[/QUOTE]
you've chosen wisely. :D

edit: haven't played RA in forever :lol

Maybe this is their way of demanding more time from EA to work on the game.

It looks okay.

I hope it's not worse than the 360 version of the first game.
No, it really doesn't look okay. And this is actually worse than the 360 version of the first DA.

They must have hired a bunch of the people who worked on Lord of the Rings Conquest.

Jokes aside, I really hope that a western developer is working on a 3DS RPG. Dragon Age 2 should be a pretty easy port at least.

2005 called, it wants its graphics back. This looks like FFXII level stuff.

Urggghhh I know the final product wont look that bad, but godamn Bioware, what made you think it was a good idea to release those screens? :lol

To be fair, the art style in the first one was pretty horrid in some spots too. See: the fade, and the ridiculous amount of blood covering characters in cut-scenes.

The art style has improved, not sure why they're releasing these shots though, 2010 and you still can't manage to have character self-shadowing? WTF. Either the graphics is way too early to show in which case don't show it, or Bioware's own tech is still pretty far behind.

The game will look fine in the end, find it amusing that everyone was upset about the games new direction calling it Dragon Effect, bet you'd love ME2 graphics now. :lol

I'm not sure it has, actually. They're clearly trying to appeal to the crowd of people who wouldn't normally touch a classic CRPG-style of game, but I think that's a fools errand.

These screenshots should have never left the editor's computer, and there is somebody in that chain that is solely responsible for polishing these shots up. They failed in that regard.
It's not a leak, either. BioWare signed off on these. Maybe they have bigger balls than I thought.

Suuuuuuuuuuure.

BioWare: Spikes, more spikes, WE NEED MORE SPIKES!

Wow the dirt on the ground is moving so fast from the wind its blurry in the screenshots... come on Bioware you can do better then this for PR shots!

It's still pretty early. So I'm sure they'll touch it up.

Also, I just have to throw this in here. I think BioWare's Dragon Age team has to catch up. I thought Dragon Age looked horrible compared to Mass Effect 2, Demon's Souls, or Final Fantasy XIII. The character models were atrocious and the animation was very rigid and without life in them. The backgrounds also looked like cardboard set pieces. Instead of actual trees they looked like cut outs from a pop-up book and the mountains looked washed out.

Maybe it's because I play DA on the 360 but that's no excuse since Mass Effect 2 and FFXIII look amazing on the system.

The DA team need to step up their game! And seeing how so many are disappointed with these new screens, maybe I'm right here?

Eh they are different game types. One has a fixed perspective, while the other can shift from third person to isometric. Furthermore there is significantly more content in DA compared to Mass Effect. While DA may be linear (in some ways). They need to create many more environments than both ME and FFXIII.

I was also talking about the character models and animation in DA. I think they are pretty bad. If you have a very strong PC the characters do look better, but it's still a step behind compared to FFXIII or Mass Effect 2. And the animation is definitely bad.

But the detail that needs to be there is there. The game doesn't depend entirely on great voice tracking like FFXIII and Mass Effect 2 do. FFS the main character doesn't talk. Animations I would agree with you, but its shifting perspective I think would make it difficult to translate small animation between its 3rd and isometric views.

artstyle is easily the biggest offender here.

Or the lack thereof. If somebody put those screens in a slideshow sans the game and developer watermarks, I'd be hardpressed to tell you it was from Dragon Age.

Why would they show these pics? Showing something off when it is butt ugly makes no sense. Like a fat guy wearing a speedo or a fat chick wearing low cut jeans.

Forget the graphics. The more I hear about the mechanics of DA2 the less excited I get. I'm more excited for Two Worlds 2 and Arcania at this stage.

Amazingly awful. Print has long lead times, so it's possible that these were sent to GI months ago for the cover, to be fair. I really hope that's what's going on here.

Fuck. Every time this GIF gets posted I have nightmares of Alistair's giant head crashing through my bedroom window and looming over my quivering naked body.

i think it's safe to say xii has better texturing than a lot of current gen games

I think it's safe to say that using a ps2 emulator with the higher end cinematic character models and an hd resolution is not a proper representation of what xii looks like on the ps2...

Quake 3 Engine is free, though.

You guys just don't get it. It's the 2000-2002 PC game revival look. But I guess you have to hate on everything, Gaf.

Given Bioware's tendency to outright remove features which users have legitimate complaints about, Dragon Age 2 will likely rid of graphics entirely and become a text adventure.

Quake 1, maybe.

Bioware just slapped some d_mipcap 3 on this bitch.

I got DAO on PS3 since I didn't and still don't have a PC that can handle it (netbook lol). I still enjoyed the game and the PS3 version isn't all that different from PC so I don't believe I missed on out too much.

But...
The PC version’s combat system remains mostly the same. “The PC version implements the same strategic approach afforded by a mouse-and-keyboard control scheme.” “Rather than try to mimic the PC experience on consoles, Dragon Age II has a battle system more tailored to the strengths of the PS3 and 360.”

That is from the greywardens blog. I wonder what they mean by less strategic strategic combat on PS3/360. I hope they don't dumb it down too much, DAO wasn't too complex for console-players like me...

The problem was that the console port was already dumbed down from the PC one. So it's either make it play like ass, or change it around and make it enjoyable.

I think Dragon Age was getting more and more boring near the end and this screenshot looks awful...there is no more interest in this game.

Preferably I'll be re-playing FF6...at least the story isn't clear before you watch the last scene... I mean DA:O had no real twist you just decide if you want to kill Person A or not. That's your imagination of decission -.-.

If you kill A you get his Hammer or the Sword. If you Partner up with him you get the Shield. But no matter what your current equipment is already a lot better.

Seriously what most of the people call WRPG > JRPG becuase of "open world" and "choice" is just a very big imagination.
