Why is the marketing for Dragon Age so consistently awful? Someone actually went though the game and selected these screens with the apparent intention of promoting it. So, who wants to guess what ill-fitting and awkward song they will use for the Dragon Age 2 trailer?

Yeah, as much as I'm enjoying hating on these shots, it simply can't look this bad. I expect a minor improvement over Origins, not this. It was just the wrong time and the wrong shots to put out.

Must have been a bad game if the non-game parts stood out more than the actual game.

nah, i mostly enjoy the non-game parts from all modern HD games. gameplay comes after music, atmosphere, scenery, details etc.

if i want super awesome gameplay i play shoot 'em ups or something.

this is the new shit?

all jokes aside I got over the graphics in DA:O I can do it here, but bioware needs to make sure its engaging and fun that's for damn sure.

What in the world are they doing releasing those shots. It isn't even hyperbole to say it looks like a late 90s PC game.

I have a fuckton of issues of PC Gamer to prove it.

As if the PR talk describing Dragon Age turning into Dragon Effect 2 wasn't bad enough.

This...I love you Bioware, you gave me the first cloth map I've had for years and made my game of the year in ME2 AND my favourite game this gen in ME1, why are you hitting me baby?

Seriously. Listen. If anybody from Bioware is here, I will work on the marketing for this game for you for free. I am a well-educated professional marketing and public affairs correspondent. I will help you out for free, because your marketing push on the original Dragon Age and this one so far are flat out embarrassing for everybody in this field.

I'd consider it pro bono work.

Yes, your 7900 GT will do you proud!

I think my Voodoo 3 would be sufficient.

Something seems to have gone terribly wrong during the concept art -> game transition.

I think that BioWare/EA should be applauded for their bravery in creating the first ever "Graphical Prequel."

(And I'm sure that the final game will not look like this.)

The thing that blows my mind is that Bioware had to hand these shots out. Usually when there is pre-release stuff shown its something put together exactly for that purpose. It might not even be an actual place in the game itself but you showcase what the engine can do. This whole thing makes no sense. Well at least we know they just finished level three.

Even you would admit it's atrocious.. But it worked.

Was there an expectation for improved graphics with such a short development period? Did Bioware say something to that effect?

Bioware can go suck a bag of dicks =/

No offense, but seriously you have issues. There is what, 8 months before release? No way these are final, and the lighting is far from finished.

Chill the fuck out. :lol

I'm not sure it has, actually. They're clearly trying to appeal to the crowd of people who wouldn't normally touch a classic CRPG-style of game, but I think that's a fools errand.

These screenshots should have never left the editor's computer, and there is somebody in that chain that is solely responsible for polishing these shots up. They failed in that regard.

I think one of the key things we're working on in Dragon Age 2 is the technology, I can confirm that we're doing a lot of work on the Dragon Age engine, and doing a lot of stuff to pump it -- to make it visually super hot.

To be fair, this was Dragon Age 1's first screenshot. Not 8 months from release, but still...

There are even worse ones you could have pulled. Like the one with that green and yellow shield guy running about.

The problem is that this is less than a year away from release (yeah, right) and it looks markedly worse than it's predecessor.

Of course, the final game will look nothing like this and visuals in an RPG aren't supposed to be the main focus, but still. Thems some ugly screenshots.

It's still amazing to me that they actually released these shots.

It's one thing for your game not to look very good, it's another thing entirely to be like "hey look at how shitty our game looks. see? we told you it looks shitty. can you smell the shit? enjoy that."

It's like they're rubbing our noses in it. Hey, Bioware. I didn't shit on the carpet, okay? That was left there by Jade Empire.

I like how the render distance also appears to be about five feet now.

I haven't seen fogged environments like that in a long time.

Compare this:

Garret is not impressed. It is also a 2011 game as well, so it's not like it's coming out sooner either.

The best part is definitely the pink 32x32 ground texture.

Hey look! A game that looks more visually appealing than Dragon Age 2 :D

edit: and where the hell would this have even been (in the game)?

I think that dates back to 2006, so chances are that location didn't exist in the final game.

Maybe the church in Redcliffe?
Or possibly this, yeah.

That's not being fair in the slightest. Isn't that from like 2005 or something? It's back when they were testing Dragon Age concepts using the Neverwinter Nights engine.
