Team ICO just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about animation and cinematography (I'm an expert), but realism and framerate are huge parts of it. It's not like it is on the Wii where you can become successful by being shovelware. If you screw someone over on the PS3, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the PS3 public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase TRICO, nor will they purchase any of Team ICOs games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Team ICO has alienated an entire market with this move.

Team ICO, publicly apologize for the test footage or you can kiss your business goodbye.

<sigh> I'm sorry GAF...

:lol good job, I was too lazy to take it as far as you did.

And is potentially what was so well done in Ico. Which is why I really don't understand what else you would expect from Trico if you loved Ico.

I felt that with Ico, but feel that this could be on another level because of the teams experience and the technology they have to work with today.

Who knows, it was a SCEE event, not SCEWW so it probably wasn't Trico, but I'd be interested to see.

Though I really like the video, I don't think it would blow anyone away on a technical level to the degree he implied.

You suck.

Kudos to Vagabundo, you did it very right, especially the "not like on wii where you can success by being shovelware" part.

That I can understand though. I should precise that my "un-understanding" is strictly tied to the quotes selected by Doubledex in this post : http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15927354&postcount=1657

except for the amateur quotes (maybe it's a cohesiveness argument because the creature looks a lot more realized than the enviroment) it looks like people who didn't like the look of the test footage. how is that 'wrong'? i'm sorry, but as hyped as i am for this game i'm not going to give it untouchable status. every game is open to criticism, especially when we get early leaked test footage. if this was Burnout or COD we'd be picking apart this footage and expressing opinions on it. this game should be no different.

I thought it looked unbelievable. Ueda is everything i wanted Nintendo to be (the Zelda team).

On this note: As much as I enjoy the Zelda games, I've never felt the sort of emotional investment that I felt whilst playing Shadow of the Colossus. It was utterly remarkable, and in fact something I haven't felt since or before in my memory. Not from a game anyway.

The guy is will be one of the greats.

Ueda became one of my top three game designers of all time off the strength of ICO and SotC alone. Those two games cemented him in my mind as another Miyamoto - only heading in a different direction. A welcome direction and the closest thing we've come to true game narrative.

This thread is reaching such stupidity levels that if I said "crap" and "tits" 20 times while posting morgan freeman pics, I'd be lowering the average.

I think Ueda's limited output certainly helps his genius status. I can't think of another developer that hasn't put any sub-god like genius games.

I'm sure if Sony didn't have a man crush on him it'd be different though.

Unless he saw actual/more gameplay. Some parts do look like actual gameplay shown from a cinematic camera. I doubt it was this he was referring to though, the myth of the secret ps3 game will have to continue. :)

I love what I see here, anyway. :D

I'm not giving it untouchable status or saying it's wrong, I'm just surprised some of those quotes look like it's a radical departure from Ueda's previous games, while it looks exactly in the same alley.

But yeah, people are free to think whatever they want. Actually I don't care more than that.

perfectly worded. i only wish more people would try to emulate him the way devs look to Miyamotos' games for inspiration. the industry could surely use it.

I only wish Sony owned one more studio like Ueda's. That way they could have one genius game every 2 years on and on again off again cycle.

I really doubt TRICO is 'Secret PS3 Game'.

Look how early this build looks. It looks no where near KZ2 quality. Also, I thought it was common knowledge that Team Ico was working on TRICO or a PS3 game like that?

Unless they clone Ueda, I don't see anything like this coming from another studio.

Clone him, you bastards. Clone him.

this explains a lot to me, do you think if you already owned a PS3 you would be so critical.

I didn't feel I was being overly critical, the large errm creature is startling - very well done though.

But It is a good question.

If I owned a PS3 I would probably be less critical, but to make me take the leap and buy a PS3 this game would have to be exceptional, so I may be harsher on it than others who already have made the investment.

I was expecting a different type of game from the initial few seconds, something Oblivion-like, as I hadn't read the OP before watching the video.

Look.

I loved SotC as much as anyone.

But doesn't anyone else find it weird that on GAF, for certain games, it's somehow a mortal sin and an indicator of lack of intelligence to be skeptical of a game that hasn't even been released?!

Since when was having an opinion stupid?

Opinions are always welcome if they actually have merit.

Saying that the animation is "shitty" is beyond stupid. It's totally amazing and if you're going to make such a bold, ignorant statement at least try and explain why it's shitty. I thought Uncharted 1 and by the looks of it 2 had amazing animation but this blows those games out of the water totally.

Saying that the texture work and shading effects is crap on a one and a half year old video of a game that's not even been officially announced is also beyond stupid.

Screw the haters. This is stellar looking stuff, even from that stage of production.

yeah, I don't think one game should make anyone buy a PS3. I own all three consoles, and still play the majority of my 3rd party titles on the Xbox, but MGS4, Uncharted, and LBP along with BLu-Ray plaback have made it a worth while investment. Really looking forward to Uncharted 2, God Of War 3, and of course Trico.

There could be more devs out there that just aren't given a chance. Ueda's said that he has complete control over his projects and that Sony doesn't put pressure on him to do this or that. That's a luxury that even some well known devs aren't given.

This trailer looks fabulous to me. I hope they show more or an updated build at E3 this year.

The possibilities are endless for trophies for a game like this too....

think of these as 3D sketches. not final and not even meant to be seen by public. used to test drive aesthetics and visual themes.

Exactly:

First up, Kuro asks what Ueda starts with when making a game. That's not set in stone, explains Ueda. However, for games that he's worked on until now, it may be the production of an image video. This, Ueda explains to Toro, is a video that shows a final image of the game -- something like, "It will be a game like this!"

Even before that video, making the image boards, artwork, and 3D models for the image video are actually the very first step, Ueda adds.

This is probably the "image video."

AND PS GUYS, IT'S A FUCKING RAT, LOOK AT THE TAIL AND LOOK AT THE DAMN FACE!

WTF is up with you people who can't recognize a griffin? Bird-dog-rat, rat-cat, bird-dog...! Geezus fuck.

If you saw a unicorn would you think it was an ugly goat-dog-worm?

A griffin is a bird-lion. This guy, imo, is clearly a bird-rat.

serious business

I really don't understand all the hate from some posters on here. How can anyone watch that and be totally negative afterwards? I just don't get it.
