Edge: PS4 is your next console... maybe

They have yet to have shown a single example of kinect leading to even 'good' gameplay. Much less great gameplay.

Kinect cheerleaders are absolutely baffling. It's all in their heads. They want something that has not been proven to exist. They have just swallowed hook line and sinker ther PR load from MS saying "just buy it now, examples of good uses for this will come later". I say fool me once...

I really enjoyed Dance Central and Kinect Sports. Even if those games never come to X1 I would still want Kinect for Video Chat and Twitch.

That's precisely what we do. Every single one of us.

What, you spend hundreds of dollars to play the 2-5 interesting games that come out with it and then sell the console when you're done? No you keep it because you know it's getting some level of future support. You don't know you'll like any of the games but you assume you will like at least a few.

I buy a console for the titles it already has and the titles that have been announced for it. It's one reason why I have no desire to buy any console at launch when it is the most expensive and has a small amount of games I'm actually interested in.

The only story that matters for me is the XBONE is $100 more expensive with less impressive hardware- I won't even mention 1st party studios.

I will get an XBONE some day but it won't be for some time. Also- it's not as if MS is giving us something Sony isn't. They just redacted completely ridiculous, consumer unfriendly policies.

You are correct, yes, but the stock response to this seems that none of Sony's IPs sell as well as Microsoft's I've noticed.

This is of course total horseshit, but it's what I keep seeing.

Other than Halo I thought their IPs sell around the same amount no?

Sony's IPs may not shatter the charts but they do have a lot of very solid IPs, commercial wise (and quality wise but I don't want to go there).

4 is greater than One.

MS IP's don't interest me at all. And whatever console exclusives they have locked up, I can just get on PC or PS4 later.

No I cannot explain why they do such stupid things and it's beginning to hurt them.

The request was to explain why PC is a direct competitor. But again you know more than Sony and MS with hard numbers and market research they have access too aswell no doubt.

My best guess would be they still think PC gaming is stuck in the same place it was in 2005, where it really wasn't a direct competitor. . .

Or they have access to hard numbers and market research indicating it's not the same thing. A platform growing/shrinking doesn't correlate to causality, but lets just roll with whatever theory suits the agenda. And to forstall the "both in the same boat", no my argument is that they do treat it differently (which is an observable fact) and they have their reasons. So the onus is for the other person to show otherwise.

For example Titanfall (and some other games). Have you seen it? It's timed first on both PC and xboxes. If MS saw the PC as a direct competitor on the same scale as PS4 - actually they should treat it as even more of a threat because it has a keyboard/mouse, better graphics, no paywall and a bigger install base - they wouldn't let it near the PC, at least not before letting it on the PS4 which would be the wiser of the two options if we take into account things like the PC install base being much bigger off the bat.

It's quite obvious they see the PC port as not direct competition and this is in 2013 not 2005. You may think they should, but I have yet to see any compelling reason.

XBOne seems to have the best line-up. PS4 with better specs is irrelevant for overall market, but the price matter.

"Nothing is 100%"

"even though they're wrong"

Well, having already released three home consoles and two handhelds, I'd wager that Sony does own more IPs than Microsoft, even if we include the properties from their PC-only days. What I don't understand is how that number figures into one's appreciation of platform holders' last gen efforts, which is surely the best indicator of what the upcoming generation may look like in that regard.

Frankly, PS3 and Xbox 360 managed to sort of even out for me over the past couple of years, but before that I was much more inclined to go with Microsoft's line-up, despite the fact that Sony managed to release quite a bit more games; I just wasn't as appreciative of most of them as your average GAF member. So yeah, those kinds of statistics mean jack squat to me, as they should.

It doesn't really matter what price or when you buy it, unless it's at the tail end of the generation when the support is basically finished, the principle is the same. Surely you expect more games after everything you were looking at comes out right?

better specs = better performance minimum.

Kinect 2 hasn't shown anything in games that directly makes them better. No head tracking video, not even in-game voice macros shown. Something as simple as that is yet to be seen. The funny thing is that MS more or less said so themselves recently.

What makes this funny is, these are things that have to be utilized by the developer that aren't forced features which ultimately means that it can be under used and straight out not enhancing any type of game play at all. In fact it doesn't even enhance gameplay for not even your typical game. It doesn't make it better at all. The only thing the Kinect 2 enhances better is dancing and fitness games that need to be more accurate and will benefit all those features in a nutshell. I love Dance Central so that's about the only thing that separates the Kinect from the PS4

I don't think they do

A) PC gaming is essentially a Microsoft platform and is worth money to Microsoft, especially as they are now moving towards a non-transferable OS.

B) It's an enthusiast platform , there are countless other consumer products or industries where they are other non-branded or specialist products available alongside significantly larger and more popular brands which take the bigger market share.

Kinect is just another input device like a controller or keyboard and mouse. I don't understand the hatred from some folks towards it. There are plenty examples of kinect enhancing gameplay, but most lazy gamers will say "why do all that when I can just press a button".

Anywho, I just want it so I can reenact the scene from Back to the Future 2 where young Marty McFly just calls out the tv channel he want to watch and old Marty takes a video call from the tv. That was the year 2015 so we still have 2 years left to get the flying car thing going. Come on Elon Musk you can do it.

Oh, pure amount is true then. Sorry. :p

Though MS has been building up a bunch of studios lately so I'm interested to see what they both have in store.

yeah they have been building studios like crazy.apparently the black tusk devs have 4 games in development right now.

very curious about that team since cboat mentioned a game from them and said it looks amazing

Kinect is not going to be able to provide anything that gamers are going to appreciate over a standard controller. It's just too limited of a device with no real input. The best it can do is make some gimmicky applications in normal controller games, but again most will view it as "why can't I just do this with a controller".

See this is why Sony fanboys jump on Yall so quick.. Look at this terrible answer. Lmao!

Explain how the PS4 is more of the same with better graphics?

What does the Xbox One do that is entirely more different than the PS4 gaming wise that is so much of a top advantage?

What new type of game play does the Xbox One give? What game play has the Kinect historically shown that is better than anything else that the PS4 can't do? From what I've seen so far, Voice commands and little hand movements are the only game enhancing thing it has done which are not so enhancing over the PS4 especially if it's capable on the Eye..

So what is really something the Xbox One does over the PS4 that it is worth buying over?

Such narrow-minded individuals. It doesn't take very much imagination to come up with dozens of new gameplay mechanics that will be possible with the new Kinect. But that would require you to put aside your anti-Kinect prejudices long enough to actually use your imagination. I know better than to actually expect that, though.

And Microsoft has shown a few games: Fantasia, Kinect Sports Rivals, Project Spark come to mind. None of those are possible on PS4, even with the camera. But of course, you're too 1337 to acknowledge games like those, even though critics are raving about them. SMH.

It's going to be an interesting battle, but I think Sony will win in the end. The feature I'm most excited for on the PS4 is remote play on the Vita. I'll take that over Kinect any day.

You can say that but most gamers don't care that those aren't possible on PS4 (even though they technically are, a camera does exist on PS4). I'm willing to bet most of this board isn't going to be lining up to play fantasia or kinect sports.

I heard the narrow minded insult plenty with Kinect 1. People think boosting the power a bit is all it's going to take to make Kinect control actual games but it won't no matter how powerful it is. There's a fundamental control issue that's standing in its way from being anything other than a tacky gimmick to a controller. Now there are some people who would prefer to wave their hand to swing a sword or say "pause" to pause the game, but I will always know it's faster and easier to just hit the button on the controller.

X1 has better games so far, isnt this suppose to be the number 1 factor amongst gamers? Surely most people on GAF recognise this and will buy the console with the best games. Sometimes we need to sift through all the fud in the console wars to see the truth.

Not only do I not agree that the Xbox has better games, Playstation platforms tend to get games that never (or rarely) show up on other platforms, like Disgaea and other Japanese titles. PS4 is pretty much the better choice in every aspect for my purposes.

I don't care about what games the Xbox One has. It should be noted that they had to prematurely blow their load just to get a little goodwill back. They have shaky leadership, a flawed philosophy, a more expensive console, and a less powerful console. They also have a history of abandoning early adopters once they've got them on the hook. So no, there's no maybe about this. Not for me.

Amen to that. Japanese gaming all the way. I'll always support both Nintendo and Sony because I still enjoy the same type of games I grew up playing as a kid. Funny how it still hasn't changed much to this day. :p
