What's the story here?

That's guilty gear fans watching pools because smash flooded the hall. Anime is poverty after all.

I had an amazing weekend. Spent time with a lot of amazing people in a great environment, can't believe I have to wait a whole year again :(

Also Marvel is trash kusoge drop it immediately. That game ended when Justin won last year

It is the middle of summer

and bikini season :)

OT: I was tripping out for a second when my friends told me the USF tourney stopped for no reason. Then they told me one of the guy' sticks gave out (?) and it was a moderate pause before the last match began. You could see the vibe shift down in a half second flat, and I was all worried like what's going to happen.

LOL at the attention PR Balrog was getting when the top 8 were being awarded

Excited to watch GG grand finals since I missed it. How was Catherine?

Yeah, after i posted that, I got caught up with the posts right above mine.

I don't care about the nudes, but it sounds like the guys on the stream were dicks to her, hence curious as to what happened.

However, seeing as this is moving into banning territory, i guess we're all moving on.
What the hell? What happened here? This sounds terrible.

Are people actually coming up in this thread asking for nudes?

I really enjoyed top eight.

some observations tho.....

AIAI was hot friday but cooled off/became mortal Sunday. Much in the same way die was last year or the year before when he was in top eight.

Infiltration is single handedly the most technical person playing the game today. No doubt about it. Dude is the real deal and genuine in deed and speech. He wants good games . And is willing to put it all on the line to prove it. I can never fault someone for losing when they are giving it their all.

Gamerbee is alright but man o man , that elena strat just sucks the funright out of what should be hype matches.

That can't be fun or entertaining or even skill defining for him. Its like : I have to win no matter the cost. My dignity...psssh

I just hate seeing finals being reduced to that. its so tedious to watch. i know there are multiple schools of thought on whether its ok or not or if its a legit strat but mah gawd. Bruce didn't endear himself to alot of ppl pulling that out.

It reeked of cheese and desperation imo.

Anyways , alot of my idols fell early. That was disappointing. Overall this evo was hype. Even mvc3 was cool.

Too bad mike ross took that twitch paycheck. This was his year.......:p

Super hype for SFV next year. I wonder how many familiar faces we'll see. I wonder if people like Smug and NuckleDu can make the transition.

Yeah you could see he felt bad about it, apologized to GamerBee quite a bit.

Still, things could have gone either way and he was definitely at advantage when it happened. A lot of people would be arguing in his favor had GamerBee won.

Yeah I know, either way would be uncomfortable... Really sad, because it was just a great grand finale.

What top player in the US has multiple characters on deck to wreck people outside of Nuckle Du?

As if pr rog didn't try to learn Evil Ryu. Or justin with like 3 characters in evo GF 2009. Ricky counterpicked as well. The difference is that none of the us top players have the dedication required to have multiple characters at an high level.

If they don't have multiple characters at a high level they will never win. The game is match up heavy you should always never limit yourself to 1 character at high level in match up fighter. It's not a good look.

the 2 in top 8 practically were, lol

Du's Guile and Rog's Rog were far and away their best characters.

I'd say Du's Decpre was up to snuff to work with his bad match ups in top 8. He's one of the great bright spots in the US top players. We need more people like him coming up.

He's already an evo champion tho. My heart was with the homie Gamerbee, who had a hojillion top 8s but no evo title.

that's why I was comfortable with rooting for GamerBee, considering he'd been on the warpath through Daigo and Tokido and then Infiltration. but still, guy changed chars...4 times? in one set. just amazing display of character knowledge.

Every other evo winner was a character loyalist and they won over american players. Reducing their win to the fact that they're able to counterpick (like it's easy to play a character at that level of play) is ridiculous, especially considering that the us scene gets beaten at every game that is played heavily by other regions.

Everyone knows SF4 is a matchup heavy game, I really dont know why more people didnt invest in alt characters over the year. Its not easy but its better than gief vs gen or something.

Infiltration won and he is no character specialist. Ryan Hart has a few characters on deck, Momochi has characters just for counter picks, Daigo has shown he can actually get other characters up to that level. Only exceptions I see is Fuudo. Xian has a few on deck as well. Now of course it's not just being able to counter pick why the US scene is weak, that has much more to do with having a non unified weak cliquish scene more than anything. A much lower base skill level will always doom you to never win.

Infiltration has 3 evo titles if I recall correctly 2 in sfxt and 1 in SF4.
I'd have no issue with him winning 1 more too. :p

Daigo played a single character in both his evo wins. Infiltration picked Gouken once i think during his evo run, otherwise he was Akuma all the way. Xian was only playing Gen. Luffy won with Rose. The eastern scene is very dedicated, a lot of the western players like to pull the "lol i don't even play/like this game" card. I mean the us scene was mindblown by the tech that Momochi showcased on his YT channel which was common knowledge in Japan. They destroyed everyone in 3s, in vampire savior, in st, in cvs2 and let's not even mention anime games.
This is why every time someone like 801 strider shows everyone is praising them, it's crazy to see someone that actually puts a lot of time in the lab.

Watching evo is pretty much my favorite weekend of the year.

Its the only time I understand the hype that people get watching sports.

Edit:

Made an edit to my post because while its fun to bold letters for secret messages, I'm really not that thirsty.

I never understood hard-headedness over character loyalty. I respect people who do it but when a prize climbs past several months' rent it's time to put down Dhalsim. East Asia has come to take your fight money and they can all do it on at least 3 characters.

I couldn't even post during SF4 top 8. Too intense. That Infiltration/Gamerbee was like nothing I've ever seen. And yes, funny enough it was due to Gamerbee milking everything out of an Ultra that is looking pretty damn broken, making it one of the most dramatic matches ever as you desperately want the other guy to overcome it. (nothing against Bee, total respect for him, just the mechanic)

Infiltration you didn't win but you're my champion :( His play was phenomenal. He put in so much work against the healbots, the Abel pick was so hype, and using Juri to better punish the heals was brilliant. And when he got stuck using his barely tournament-tested character against Gamerbee's Adon who he's been maining for years, and came within 1 second of timer of winning that anyway. He has no peer in SF4. He can play so many different styles with so many characters in the biggest situations.

Some people (incl. other competitors) pissed off because KBR won instead of one of the "typical guys"? Fuck off and stay salty. Maybe if one of your "gods" had practiced shit instead of playing sloppily, they would've won this time.

Sorry, just had to vent.

It's just more entertaining watching the famous guys playing in the big stage.

Just imagine a champions league final with Porto X Atl Madrid for example. Shit would be a disaster in terms of audience. Regardless of the participants merits, people want big names period.

I don't get this. I think having a dark horse doing well is way more exciting than seeing the same people succeed every time

A dark horse is only a dark horse if it's playing against the big names, in this case yes, it's exciting as fuck.

Unfortunately all these moments at EVO were off screen, that's why Marvel was so underwhelming this year.
