So yes, not PS3 quality :(

Crazy that the 4 year old PS3 version is still the best one then.

Um maybe my eyes are not good but I don't see the difference.

They aren't uncompressed. They take up so much space because it's not just the full blown CGI cutscenes that are pre-rendered. A lot of the in game cutscenes are as well. On top of that there's also the dual audio, and because the lip syncing is different for English and Japanese, they essentially have to include two of everything.

That's nuts. Still though, why is this so bad? Even the '98 port of FFVII had a confirmation before exit.

Hit enter in your url bar to get the images to display.

I always thought the CG videos were 1080p in the PS3 version. They looked pretty darn good to me. Does this mean that the videos here are stuck at 720p too?
They were. Best looking videos encodes I've seen in any game too.

So the game won't install because .net framework 3.5 isn't installed and won't install. That's great.

So I can either not play it or wait for a crack and play a dirty version of the game I own without that problem.

Man this release bummed me out.

It picks up my 360 controller fine and you have to manually change the prompts to joypad in the settings.

Yes, however I can't seem to find a way to exit the game using a controller. It looks like hitting "escape" is the only way for now.

I suppose that's what they meant by "partial controller support."

That'll get modded back in. I remember when Mortal Kombat got released on PC with worse videos than MK had on the PS3, and then someone ripped out the PS3 version so we had that coming.

The only issue i can think of is trying to play the PS3 videos with different languages.

Framerate is all over the place, such a bad port jeez!

Edit: I stand corrected, "Prefer Maximum Performance" on the Nvidia control panel fixed the issue.

Maybe someone with time and the proper skills can rip the PS3 videos and insert them. They would likely need to be reencoded and whatnot, but I've seen crazier things happen in the PC community.

Square Seriously ???

I posted this last night:

Dual audio and 60fps confirmed...I can't imagine a world in which those things are true, yet the game maxes out at 720p.

But SE is nothing if not a perpetual disappointment.

Still crossing my fingers.

Come the fuck on, SE.

And the cutscenes are worse then the PS3 version, even with a 60GB download?

I don't even have words.

Also, playing it a bit more I noticed that the prompts don't actually display in game...

Crazy that the 4 year old PS3 version is still the best one then.

Cutscenes aside going back to stuttering sub-30 on PS3 is gonna be hard now.
I can now actually see animations playing out and all.
Frame rate was never particularly good in the series on consoles.

Correction. Not "a lot". Like 95% of the time you are not directly controlling the character is pre-rendered.

Is it possible to get the PS3 cutscenes in? This port, man...

Inb4 they just straight-up used the 360 cutscenes for the PC port.

The pictures of the cutscenes have me in tears, holy shit. Square Enix why. One job. What were the 60GB for then? The Xbox 360 Version is like 20GB big. And even for dual audio we would've only needed 40GB. So whats the other 10GB per language for? -_-

Oh well, at least I can play it in Japanese.

Likewise , i do not doubt that the quality is inferior than the PS3 version but no matter how long i stare at both pictures , i do not see a difference , try as i might .

Are you in a computer or a tablet/phone? The difference is clear, there is blocking and loss of detail.

So, best way to experience FFXIII is still ps3?

Cutscenes are really the only thing PS3 does better, it would seem. I'd say 60fps, AA, and AF beat that.

But it's really annoying that this isn't the definitive version it should be. And it would have been so fucking easy.
