Final Fantasy XV delayed to November 29 - Confirmed

Doesn't bother me. 2 more months is nothing compared to the 10 years we've waited. This gives me more time to save for a PS4 (Neo?) at least and if there's a bundle, then I'll get that.

People don't remember delays. They remember broken games.

What does this mean for Kingsglaive? Is it still coming out on september 30? I am guessing my Deluxe edition will give it to me on november 29 regardless. Time to reconsider, then

Summary of the Tabata statement from the video:

- FFXV went gold the other day, and that was planned to be the version they ship on Sept 30.
- That version of the game will be playable at Gamescom, and they are cutting a 30 minute gameplay video to be released on Aug 16 showcasing the performance of that version.
- They planned a massive Day One Patch for the game which would further polish the game and fix lingering issues.
- But they have decided that instead of pressing the current gold master and delivering a day one patch, they will instead wait and use that completed version as the final gold master.
- Hence the game will be delayed to Nov 29, but they will be adding even more stuff on top of the planned fixes of the day one patch.

tl;dr - The game is delayed because they believe not everyone has internet connectivity and they don't want them to be left out of the perfect FFXV experience when the game ships to stores.

I like this. Everyone should do this.

I hope it sticks to the earlier date. I was torn between getting it digitally so I could watch it before the game comes out, but also wanting a physical copy of it. So the delay works out pretty good in that regard.

According to Slaythe this is beyond bug fixing and looking at the recent trailers and gameplay demonstrations I can't imagine him being wrong about his statement. It doesn't take 2 months to compress a patch onto the disk, they're going to continue development of a game that had no business being released in September.

I think trusting everything Tabata, who wanted to release the buggy game, says isn't too wise. Especially with the excuse of them not wanting to release a Day One patch followed by the statement that they're going to release patches and more DLC anyway. It just doesn't line up.

Read above I guess.

We'll have to see if Tabata's statements hold water on the 16th and beyond thanks to gamescom and his statements.

Not only that, but it seems like you have things a bit wrong. You're right that it wouldn't take 2 months to create, print, and ship a new gold candidate, but you are missing 2 potential things.

1: Tabata's mentions of extra things. This could be 2 specific things: minor bugs and optimization that would be left until post release (not uncommon), or it could include the NEO mode which would be mandated by the time any prior shipping would be done. Theoretically, if they take the exact same amount of time to make the new gold candidate (lets say its finished dev on sept 20th or so), then you would have to start press and shipping, etc, which could make the new release date some time in october. If the NEO leaks are to be true all games after a certain point in October need to have a Neo mode, and unless Square wants to make different release dates for the xbox one version of the game and the ps4 version of the game at this point, they would require yet another month (probably) to tweak and optimize this mode. If the game is then, at this point, in november, it is far more wise to delay to the end of november than the start since it will be on the tail end of the games released rather than mixed in with them (though this could backfire too, theoretically). Basically there's a lot potentially going on, but at this point (unless we get a FINAL HOURS OF FINAL FANTASY 15 (Do it Keighley) ) its all hearsay.

2: They need time and scheduling to print disks. It could very well be that the manufacturing schedule best suited a time closer to a 2 month delay. Though I wouldn't really know anything about this stuff though :s

I'll wait for the incoming shit storm when it has some sort of day 1 patch anyway, should be a great thread much like the No Man's Sky debacle we had last week.

People moan when games get delayed and they moan when they get released with a patch, I'm sure people will be going bananas over this delay just as much as some folk are happy with it.

Is it? Idk

But anyways, a "massive Day One patch" doesn't sound like less than 5 GB. Anyone have any insight on this? Thoughts?

Stop being dumb please. You sound like you're 15 and hyperactive all the time. The patch is massive in terms of fixes and improvements planned. It's not likely new content which would add more space rather than replacing data that already exists.

NMS had a massive Day one patch and it was 900mb...

yeah this.

Would be funny as shit if we're still getting a day 1 patch after this delay

Wouldn't be surprised. It's alright if it's a 10mb-30mb patch rather than a 20gb patch.

It really will be bullshit if they show up at the PlayStation event in September with a neo version they're working on that magically solves these performance issues.

Only details so far:

We’ll notify whether the release dates for the disc version of both KINGSGLAIVE: FINAL FANTASY XV™ and BROTHERHOOD FINAL FANTASY XV™ will be changed or unchanged at a later time. The release date of KINGSGLAIVE: FINAL FANTASY XV digital version is unchanged from August 30.

That'd be weird considering they're still releasing this game on Xbox one. I don't think they'd want to ruin relationships like that.

The rumor was flimsy as hell, legit shook it was real.

I think when there are flimsy rumors, you will see various people in the know react somewhat differently. Some might think it is true, or that it could be true, sone would doubt it or question the source being some less known site.

In this case everyone was treating it like it was a done deal. Why do you think that is?

A delay is a sign to be that a developer respects and also loves their creation. True fans should respect and love their creations too. It always confuses me when people fly off the handle when delays happen, it seems almost hypocritical to me for anyone to do so.

Regardless, here is some of my commentary on the situation...

I am of the belief that Sony is about to mimic an apple style release window for the PS4 Neo after their press conference next month. I think that the market for FFXV is filled with people that would regard an upgraded PS4 launching before this game to be a strong system seller. So this potentially is very convenient for Sony.

Its also potentially convenient for square, if the Neo launched a month after FFXV some people might of waited for the best possible experience (I certainty would of) and that could tarnish momentum for their product.

Going gold and then releasing takes four to six weeks to my understanding. This is an eight week delay, I this is because other considerations were made when making this delay, not just the day one update being the gold master.

Finally, I always had a Christmas release vibe when it came to this game and as such I look forward to playing it around that time when it gets quite in the holidays!

Not everyone though? Outside of gaf at least.

So this comes out within a week of Pokemon now, instead of in September, when I had nothing else to play. Let's hope I'm not to busy to actually play it now I guess.

I was disappointed when I first heard, but understanding the reasons, I'm okay with it.

First impressions are a big deal. Better that the game is more polished upon release and without gamebreaking problems.

Lol, I'm seeing the video. Three minutes or so about the master, on how it is the final version, just to say "We created a series of additional contents...a patch!".

And it seems so big they can't release it as Day One patch, they are worried about people not be able to download it, but of course there's a season pass for the game?

I don't understand. I'm curious to see how the game runs without this patch, and the benefit after.

Sorry, but that was unnecessarily rude.

I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to that stuff, and I was just curious. I post in a light-hearted manner because most people who post here are a tad too serious/dead/condescending. That is all. I apologize for my posts?

The way I see it there are two possible explanations regarding the Neo

- The game is not working and they need the Neo specs to make it work (kind of like the expansion pack situation in some N64 games)

- Sony has pressured S-E to delay the game so that it coincides with Neo and they can release a bundle and/or some special edition

Well, now that I think about it, both explanations work together perfectly. Bottom line: the game is not ready to hit shelves and that's it, they need more time and not even a day one patch would fix the game right now.

Man I feel you have way too much faith in these guys. The main thing I get out of this is that they couldn't rush the game out for September. Or that the game still isn't very fun to play and they need to tweak it some more(which they were still doing just weeks ago) despite being so certain about it a couple of months ago. The Sony thing could be true too but regardless, this is all business rather than the fabled developer love. I mean there are 300 people working on this project and the lead wasn't even the creative mastermind of the game.

So they're going to screw over PS4 1.0 users? I doubt that. The leaks from earlier did say that Sony pressured them into this though, for a Neo bundle.

I would always, and I mean always, prefer a polished release that means delays over a rushed game with bugs and patches so this news is perfectly fine by me.

We've waited a long time so a couple more months isn't going to matter much.
