Final Fantasy XV delayed to November 29 - Confirmed

LOL

Lol, I'm seeing the video. Three minutes or so about the master, on how it is the final version, just to say "We created a series of additional contents...a patch!".

And it seems so big they can't release it as Day One patch, they are worried about people not be able to download it, but of course there's a season pass for the game?

I don't understand. I'm curious to see how the game runs without this patch, and the benefit after.

So it sounds quite normal? Devs aren't as happy as could be with the master version of the game and the work on the Day One Patch is more in line with their expectations but they don't want anyone who is lacking in an internet connection to not experience this version of the game so they include it on disc and also any additional polish etc in the next few weeks before a second master version is made.

Season Pass is post release content, if FFXV does well they'll release a GOTY type version for those people later down the line.

Looking forward to a more polished product.

More polished product + more time to finish Persona 5 before it comes out. No complaints!

Personally hoping for a more polished final product on PS4/XBO and
Neo

The demo was rough to say the least so I'm not too fussed. I'd rather they take the time and polish it up.

this better be one polished ass game

ffxv: the good, the bad, & the polished :) ...

Did anyone else notice the completely random irony of this situation and the shitstorm produced from No Man's Sky, regarding day one patches and PC performance. My god, that answer sounds like a direct reaction to what happened here from No Man's Sky.

Now, if what he said is true, which I'd take with a grain of salt, what choice would one take: the apparent same game but with a day one patch, or wait 2 months for those without an Internet connection so everyone is delivered the same experience, considering all else is equal as he stated?

What a wild week.

I realistically think they really needed the extra time and the game is still shipping with a Day one patch, per the usual these days but they needed an excuse and this Day One thing was the trending topic on the web

Tabata seems (rightly) concerned about this game's place in the FF series legacy, and so perhaps he genuinely does want the definitive version recorded on disc for historical posterity. I hope I'm not naive for thinking that. Anyone who follows the process with HD remasters knows that these things like code and assets tend to get lost and separated over time as teams shift and companies move.

I have no doubt that they watched the fan reaction to NMS very closely, and that this is a response to it.

So they're going to screw over PS4 1.0 users? I doubt that. The leaks from earlier did say that Sony pressured them into this though, for a Neo bundle.

At this point anything is possible... maybe they need more time to make the game work in Vanilla PS4.

Or, Tabata is the spokesman for the game because he is the director and studio head in charge of the game, but he has bosses and producers to answer to too.

I personally wouldn't have minded downloading a massive day one patch. But I respect their reasons for delaying the game.

First impressions go a long way and those that don't have good internet connections won't have to suffer the long wait downloading that day one patch.

The way I see it there are two possible explanations regarding the Neo

- The game is not working and they need the Neo specs to make it work (kind of like the expansion pack situation in some N64 games)

- Sony has pressured S-E to delay the game so that it coincides with Neo and they can release a bundle and/or some special edition

Well, now that I think about it, both explanations work together perfectly. Bottom line: the game is not ready to hit shelves and that's it, they need more time and not even a day one patch would fix the game right now.

I doubt. Did you imagine the backlash after this video if the vanilla PS4 edition would run like crap? Nah, also people expecting miracles from the Neo patch should think again about it, it will probably be 1080p with locked 30 fps at max.

Also regarding the DEFINITIVE edition, this is not the DEFINITIVE edition at all. A GOTY with all the season pass contents and pre-order DLCs will be the DEFINITIVE edition, but a game missing half the contents can't be the definitive version. I think the D1 patch was something like 20GB and to avoid backlash similar to Halo MCC they delayed it to include it on disc, that's all. But I'm sure this is not the real reason: I believe without that patch the game runs very bad, and the patch is NEEDED to make it playable, otherwise like all SH, they would simply release it as a Day One patch including major fixes instead of delaying the game.

Summary of the Tabata statement from the video:

- FFXV went gold the other day, and that was planned to be the version they ship on Sept 30.
- That version of the game will be playable at Gamescom, and they are cutting a 30 minute gameplay video to be released on Aug 16 showcasing the performance of that version.
- They planned a massive Day One Patch for the game which would further polish the game and fix lingering issues.
- But they have decided that instead of pressing the current gold master and delivering a day one patch, they will instead wait and use that completed version as the final gold master.
- Hence the game will be delayed to Nov 29, but they will be adding even more stuff on top of the planned fixes of the day one patch.

tl;dr - The game is delayed because they believe not everyone has internet connectivity and they don't want them to be left out of the perfect FFXV experience when the game ships to stores.

Sounds sensible and dare I say, a good decision.

Could be some other guy in charge of DLC like with Bloodborne I guess. Then again I doubt there is nearly as much pressure with the DLC than getting XV out in time.

Sure but he's still the studio head of that division. He's not going to disappear while there's work to be done. He has much more responsibility than just being a game director.

I just hope it won't get delayed again because I have a 10€ discount expiring on December and I want to use it on FFXV.

According to Slaythe this is beyond bug fixing and looking at the recent trailers and gameplay demonstrations I can't imagine him being wrong about his statement. It doesn't take 2 months to compress a patch onto the disk, they're going to continue development of a game that had no business being released in September.

I think trusting everything Tabata, who wanted to release the buggy game, says isn't too wise. Especially with the excuse of them not wanting to release a Day One patch followed by the statement that they're going to release patches and more DLC anyway. It just doesn't line up.

Have you ever heard about the certification process and the reason why so many games have day 1 patches because of it? To get your game out in the 30th of september, you have to have the master way before that date checked and stamped off by a QA team of Sony/Microsoft. As a result there is often a big timeframe between finishing the master and the release, which is these days often used to patch things up. (See the No Man's Sky day one patch controversy to see a great example of this. Lots of stuff was added via patching day one)

I'm confident they could've released FFXV the 30th with a day one patch and have a good running game with the most offending bugs fixed. They decided to get that patch on disk though, as I can imagine in an open world game like this big bugs might appear which could hamper the experience of people who aren't able to download the patch. This probably means there are some of those bugs are bigger then the usual ones, but this doesn't mean the game 'wasn't ready' for a 30th september release, as you have to add in the time they could've worked on a day one patch...

And yes, post patch there will still be (probably smaller) bugs and patches. Again, this is the case with almost every game in recent memory. Are you fuming on other developpers for releasing patches and thus, in essence, releasing 'buggy' games.

I don't get why you get all worked up about it too? A game got delayed. What's new? Be glad you get a better product for it, which won't let you wait for a big download when you fire it up (like so many AAA games do these days)

TERRIBLE NEWS

...but only because I'll be seeing more or the same amount of "this game is going to fail!", "this game looks like garbage!", "SE is incompetent!" posts in every FFXV preview or info thread (including Kingsglaive and most likely that mobile pinball/arcade game or whatever that was). You know who you are and if you don't, well aren't you oblivious as hell on how you portray yourself. Perhaps I should just add more to my ignore list or just stop visiting the threads/GAF altogether.

As others have said, delays are only a good thing if the reason for the delay is continuing to work on the game. I've said before this delay doesn't even really affect me as I only plan to play this game on PC unless impressions are greatly beyond expectations. (I guess I also hoped to sell parts of my Ultimate CE sooner though)
