Fire Emblem If to feature Base Building mode and head rubbing mode

Think I'm going to chose one of the hairstyles on the right if these turn out to be the only options for male.

Not really feeling any of them on the left.

I'm hoping the more "manly" bodytype comes back, and doesn't look quite so... frowny. I'm just digging into Awakening for the first time, and I wasn't really satisfied with any of the options; 2 of the body types looked overly childish/feminine for my tastes, and the third just looked like a self-serious SOB. Ended up going with the base model.

Not saying it'll happen, but can you imagine if this game gets censored in the West and the beyond creepy face rubbing thing is not present in our version of the game? Gods of Censorship, I summon you!

I thought about that. Would skip the game, fuck censorship. Skipped the censored DLC for Awakening too.

We don't know the sales model in the West yet, I don't think many people would double dip in the West if they did use that model.
Ummmmmmmmmm

At the end of the trailer when the screen get divided in white/black in the European Direct it contained: Fire Emblem: Hoshido / Fire Emblem: Nohr but in the NA direct only the names of the countries appear and then in a white screen Fire Emblem.

I may be reading tew much into that but MAYBE in the EU release they are going to implement the Japanese model of 2 sku and in NA they are going to sell only 1 sku....

It wouldn't surprise me if they did so. I mean, I'm glad they aged Lyn up three years in the American release of 7.

I really do think this is a case of Japan trying to outJapan itself.

This gives me hope 🙈

I don't oppose censorship when the change is for good, to be honest.

shame I have to be a baby faced fuck in this game. I can't be the manly avatar again.

Guess I'll go with one of the hairs on the right.

I don't think they've shown off the body types yet, just the hairstyles. Hoping we get a manly avatar with a bit more variation in expression.

EDIT: And that's because you can change hairstyle in your room in the castle. Neat.

Why? Did they already showed there is no "adult" option or are you assuming?

They'll probably have more body types. They just haven't shown everything off yet.

You're right. I just assumed because we have a very specific point in the family. Aka we're like the middle child in either family so we can't look older than the eldest child. But we could technically look as old if not a bit younger than them.

To be fair, this is the hairstyle change room, not the character creation screen. It'd be weird for your character to suddenly grow a manly enough chin to rival blond Gaston.

Okay, I do find the face touching mechanic a bit uncomfortable, but I think people calling for censorship are overreacting a bit. Is not even lewd.

I hope when you're in My Castle you can change the perspective whenever you want, and not just something that changes when you get too close to a building, because I think the 3d perspective looks nicer.

This gives me hope

Honestly, I would be surprised if they didn't. This really does seem like a super Japanese thing that gets removed from global releases, as what's culturally acceptable there is not always acceptable in the rest of the world.

Why censor this? It's not inappropriate content, just creepy and weird and pandering.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IE2PAYh2U0

Someone translated the video in English if people are still interested in anything other than the 30 seconds. Though I've never heard of the user so I don't know how good the translation is.

Since I don't really want to talk much about how weird face rubbing, fanservice, etc. is, I'll list off some things I noticed about the gameplay now that the translation's out. Hopefully people didn't notice them yet.

  • Seems like the food, herbs, crystals, etc. only have uses in My Castle. I don't think they're going to clog up the main inventory from the looks of it.
  • Some weapons seem to be in limited supply as far as shops go, while others you can get an unlimited supply provided you have enough gold. I presume the infinite supply weapons are the weak ones (bronze, iron) while the ones in lesser supply are stronger weapons (steel and up).
  • Dragon's Vein seems to be an exhaustible resource and not just an ability you can use all the time because it costs Dragon's Vein points in order to build/level up your shops. I presume it costs points to use Dragon's Vein in battle as well, so you have to recognize that there are good/bad times to use it (probably will be very true in the Nohr campaign).
  • It's nice that you can access the other side's weapons when you visit someone else's castle shops so you aren't just limited to the weapons on your side.
  • Structures being destroyed in the raids is not permanent, so I wonder what use there is for destroying them at all...
  • Thankfully, the raids in the Nohr version don't give you experience, so you can't grind with them like you can in Hoshido.
  • Seems like you can't get experience at all via the Training Room from the footage that was shown. All you can get is more My Castle items.
  • The weird face-rubbing stuff seems to only be for temporary stat gains in battle. For example, Crimson got a surge of skill and resistance, which AFAIK is just a temporary condition (I believe these stat surges were in Awakening as well). Probably just something you can ignore if you want.

And there we go.

I noticed this one too, this can lead to various interesting scenarios where you can get royally screwed because you spend all your Dragon Vein points on another mission trying to save a unit in 1 mission (building a bridge, creating cover, etc...) but that leads to losing more big and vital options in the next map...

That's awesome, but I definitely wouldn't complain of NOA deemed it too creepy for our "Western culture" and decided to remove it. Precisely because it's such a minor thing :P

Wait so one faction can grind the other can't?

The hell is going on with this game?
???

From the very beginning they advertised that Nohr would be the tougher route with more strict objectives and no grinding offering a more classic Fire Emblem experience while Hoshido is more akin to FE: Awakening.

There is no 2 version of the game, is more like 2 different games that share the same cast.

Nohr the western side is made for a traditional experience with limited xp (it was a complaint of a lot of people so they made it for them).

Hoshido the not Japan plays more Awakening style.

This has been known since the second direct.

If I see the same people claiming for censorship asking for no region-lock I'll laugh a fucking lot.

Easily justified: I'd like a version sans-petting, but I'd also like for anybody who wants the one with petting to be able to import. Everybody wins!

One version is closer to "classic" FE (Nohr), the other is more casual/modern.

I personally wish they didn't limit the family to the route. I like Nohr better and will play it but also don't wanna constantly be struggling haha. I'll see how it goes.

people I'm creeped out too but you do realize you can like... not use the feature right?

This is why I get annoyed when people try to tell me it's just "optional". I have to go out of my way to ignore this kind of shit that absolutely destroys the tone of the game. It gives the game a weird uncomfortable atmosphere that FE absolutely did not have in the past, at least not in the US release games.

I can just ignore all the creepy sexual stuff in general, but it still remains that I have to go out of my way to ignore it.

Also I really don't understand tying difficulty to which route you pick.I'm 10000% more inclined to pick the Hoshido story wise, and the Nohr seem like the stronger faction in power so wouldn't they be the easier faction?

I won't use it and I'm not really complaining about it, but NOA has aged characters in the past and censored some of the dlc, so it's definitely possible.

There's a third route where you choose neither side, that we're waiting to here more details on.

am i imagining things or did someone mention an improved weapon triangle? what's up with that?

The character design in Star Ocean? You mean the shitty green hair witch with massive boobs? I thought that was stupid, but no I wasn't eviscerating it, since I really have 0 connection to Star Ocean. Never played a game, the series always struck me as anime pandering. I did repeatedly call that character shitty and stupid though. The purple haired girl was moe and dumb, but all I remember from those screens was the green haired girl. She's awful. With this game, we have at least two awful characters: Charlotte and Camilla. And yes, I will harp on people who like them, because they're shitty character designs.

so you're just sticking around to cause trouble? don't you have anything better to do?

This. I'm not boycotting or anything (unlike some people here in the case of potential censoring) - I'd just be happy if it happens in this specific case. That's it.

They made it so hidden weapons (used by butlers/maids and ninjas) magic and bows are now part of the triangle (they share a spot with the traditional triangle).

This is what happens when you stop buying games.

Hoshido version is definitely gunning for the Awakening audience
Awakening is a perfectly legitimate FE entry. And a good one, at that.

Because of that is the harder route, everyone has their own political or ideological agenda, or so they said in the direct, so what the Avatar is doing in the Nohr campaing is trying to reform Nohr from the inside...
