If Arsenal drop out of the top 4 and win the FA Cup, 7th gets Europa League (in July) which would set United back even further.

Our success benefits you.

We'll end up getting Europa anyway, Spurs are worse than us.

Besides I want us to be in Europa next year anyway.
Really? I suppose it's an opportunity for a Champions League spot, but it will be at the detriment to your league campaign. There are so many examples of that happening.

Anyway, you won't win it with Moyes in charge.

We should lose.

1 - Moyes, do one.

2 - It will help Everton get 4th which will help us get back to the CL quicker. If Arsenal don't get top 4 they're fucked.

Moyes is going nowhere this season.
We need a strong finish to the season in order to build for next and promising signs will almost certainly help us in the transfer window.

It's only Arsenal fans that don't want Europa league football because they know they won't win or anyway. 4th place above all. Sad really.

Having a big squad helps. Would play the 2nd team, they should be able to get past the group stages and depending on the draw, last 16. After that play the first team in the rest.

Winner of Europa gets into the CL now, that's our only ticket back in with Moyes in charge.

It's another route in and another trophy to win - there is no guarantee we will get top 4 next year, can't be picky.

We have a huge squad, some of it is not very good yes, but we should be able to handle it and players need games.

Europa league is death to your domestic campaign. It's not prestigious enough to keep players content in a rotation system, and the competition you'll be against, who have CL games, will be fresher toward the weekend PL fixtures.

Thanks again Daily Mail.

A good EL cup run can rejuvenate, improve and give impetus to league form too, it's a tad naive to say 100% of time for every club Europe League is always a bad thing

Fulham under Hedgehog for example.

A club the size of United should be able to cope.

It's not surprising a club the size of Swansea found it tough, no offence Swans fans.

It's not ideal but we have 25+ players.

I'd want to go into the season with every possible chance of winning as much as possible and getting back into the CL.

Not comfortable hedging our bets right now, were not in a position to do that. Id rather risk the negatives of it than pinning our hopes on just the league.

What B-Rod has done with Liverpool in such a short space of time is nothing short of remarkable. He has got a team that were mid-table last year to title challengers, playing fantastic football.

I also like that Rodgers has evolved as a coach, coming from Swansea with their possession-style play (in fairness, Martinez set the style) and going to Liverpool where he has them playing like Dortmund or Atletico, attractive, counter-attacking football. Nice to see a British coach be up there :)

Like TC said, I only way back in to the champions league is through Europa with Moyes still at hand.

why? I'd imagine winning the EL is a more difficult proposition than getting back into the top 4. Moyes has never shown a particular aptitude towards being a cup specialist but has at least shown that he can get relatively strong results in the league with Everton.

the Europa League is a fucking killer of league campaigns. it's not just the absurd number of fixtures, it's the weird Thursday timetable. I don't care how large your squad is (see: Spurs, both AVB seasons), it is guaranteed to do more harm than good. at the very least, it becomes a choice of how you want to allocate resources: and I think betting on the league campaign is a much safer bet.

Agreed.

As much as I don't want Liverpool to win the league, it's pretty incredible that they've done it with a brilliant Northern Irish manager playing the absolute best Football. All while having a fraction of the resources of his rivals.

Still a slimey cunt though.

The Europa League needs a complete revamp.

UEFA have made a good start by awarding the winners a Champions League spot, but it should have less teams and teams who failed to make the knockouts in the CL shouldn't drop down to the Europa League.

I remember when we were all saying Suarez's major problem was his finishing.

I remember when we were all chuckling that Liverpool would rue not having more strikers.

:(

I don't think Atletico play that nice a style. It's fun but mostly cos they're underdogs.

They're a very dirty team too.

I wouldn't respect Brendan purely because of his size. How the fuck would I be able to take such a little angry man seriously? Would try to get him on my good side though so we could make some bootleg Austin Power movies together, we would sing somebody that I used to know in one of the muscial moments in the movies.

So the season after next, could one country have 6 teams in the Champions League group stages?

For example:

1st: Chelsea
2nd: City
3rd: Arsenal
4th: Everton
5th: Liverpool - Champions League Winners
6th: United - Europa League Winners

Nah 3rd and 4th would lose their place.

4th would lose their place if a team outside of the top 4 won the champions league. It was confirmed that the europa league winners wouldn't steal one of the top 4 spots though, so you could get 5 in.

Yurt

do we even have a spot next year in Italy?

Top 2 should just go straight to Europa League. I can't take the heartache again.
