Didn't we just do this a few weeks ago? Anyway, 10 is going to be very hard...

1. The Twilight Zone
2. The Wire
3. Seinfeld
4. The Sopranos
5. Arrested Development
6. The Prisoner
7. Monty Python's Flying Circus
8. Alfred Hitchcock Presents
9. The X-Files
10. The Mighty Boosh

I have no idea how so many people can vote for Lost when it's a show with an ongoing narrative that is not over yet. It's probably won't, but the ending could suck massively and cheapen the entire 6 seasons.

Arrested Development's first episode is one of its weakest IMO. I strongly encourage you to continue, as it's a fucking amazing show and pretty much everyone I know who has watched it agrees, not just GAF-type people.

I agree completely. The first episode is the weakest in the series in my opinion.

In tallying these up, I'm considering making the latter 5 entries worth all the same amount, i.e: your first pick will be worth 10 points, second 9, third 8 etc..., with entries 6-10 all worth 5 points so it doesn't really matter what order the remaining shows are in.

Another thing I am considering is just lumping the different series of 'Star Trek' into just one entry, although this likely to end up annoying the ranks of ST fans among us.

I see these kinds of threads as not necessarily ranking one show above another, but instead a chance for gaffers to see what kind of shows the OT watches as a whole, whether there is a stand-out favourite show shared amongst most members, and for people to discover a show they might otherwise have ignored by looking to see what other members like.

For example, I knew nothing about 'Friday Night Lights' before starting this thread, but will check it out simply because it appeared on a list with most of my other favourite shows.

It is for this reason that Battlestar Galactica did not make my list

I think that would be more unfair than upsetting. People seem to be voting for at least three different series.

Sure, each show will stand as it's own entry, and I will list entries of 'Star Trek' as referring to the original.

5. Ren & Stimpy
6. Oz

10. The Simpsons

Almost placing:
Seinfeld (so, so close!), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the '80s cartoon), The Office (US), Penn & Teller's Bullshit!, Late Night with Conan O'Brien (counts?), Trailer Park Boys

Simpsons lost points for being so terrible these days. Currently one of the worst shows on TV. PUT IT OUT OF ITS MISERY AND END IT.

Shows I think are ridiculously overrated: South Park, Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

edit: How can I forget Ren & Stimpy, one of the most brilliant shows ever? Edits have been made...

Yeah, I kind of agree with that. I mean I understand if it's something like the Simpsons, but for a show like Lost with so much riding on how things wrap up.. hrmm.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I couldn't decide if I should try to keep this objective or subjective and more personal, so I decided to just go with the tv shows I've personally liked the most.

1. Simpsons
2. Seinfeld
3. Arrested Development
4. South Park
5. 3rd Rock from the Sun
6. Colbert Report
7. The Office (UK)
8. House
9. Curb Your Enthusiasm
10. Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations (really recommend this show if you haven't seen it)

runner-up: Twin Peaks (only seen season 1 so I probably shouldn't rank it in the top ten yet)

Also, with some of those entries I prefer to ignore certain seasons/eras. For example, The Simpsons seasons 9+ was really just a bad dream. Honest.

Also, I'm sure there are number of shows out there that I haven't seen but would probably love.

Wow, this took longer to compile than I thought. Should be easier now that I have most of the shows in my table. I completely forgot that GAF loves Lost.

1 Lost (143)
2 Simpsons (129)
3 Arrested Development (124)
4 Seinfeld (103)
5 Futurama (76)
- Wire, The (76)
7 Battlestar Galactica (69)
8 X-Files, The (68)
9 Office, The (US) (67)
10 Office, The (UK) (52)
The Office US beating out the UK version? Outrage!

Also surprised to see X Files make the top ten.

I have updated the entries up until the post before me.

I'll hold off putting up the final list for a bit, but the top ten hasn't really moved much, but here are some fun facts:

The highest ranked Star Trek is TNG, which is the only one in the top 20. An extra 70 new shows were added as of the second page, and exactly 250 have been mentioned thus far. There are 131 shows that have only been mentioned once. The top ten are entirely US productions.

The second highest ranked show is a comedy.

The highest ranked show I have never heard of until now is 'Rome'.

The highest ranked animated show that isn't a Matt Groening production is South Park, followed by Avatar The Last Bender (GAF, really?!)

The X-Files is still in the top ten (biggest surprise, even though I voted for it)

Also, people listing just 'The Office' without the US or UK counts as the UK original. Both shows are very closely ranked.

Voting for a particular season, or decade of a show just counts as a normal vote for the complete run.

I agree with the sentiment -- it continually baffles me how GAF can completely ignore virtually all film and television from before, say, the mid-'80s when they're receptive to books and music from much earlier -- although it did strike me as a little funny how you say that and then the only pre-'90s show you list is the Twilight Zone. :)
