That's sort of surprising. I've always felt pretty safe when walking around Wallingford. I'm not super familiar with the area though so I'd believe that break-ins happen.

It's exceptionally safe and quiet, which is why it's a good target for car prowls and burglaries because people are off guard. And so what crime does happen, really stands out.

This sucks. We had thieves trying to steal a big ladder in the summer from our shed, but one of our neighbors turned on the light on the balcony and they ran away.

As for neighbors not seeing anything - this is quite usual. My coworker lives in a big apartment building in nearby city and thieves managed to steal all her money, jewelry and tech stuff right after her husband left for work at 11 am. She came home 45 minutes later and doors were busted. They struck hers and another apartment on that flat.
Main catch - those apartments were the only one without occupants that day and nobody else heard or saw a thing.

Cops managed to get a suspect - he was working with builders on facade renovation several months earlier and he had a lot of time with planning and observing targeted apartments.

This is exactly why I'll never live in an open neighborhood. No guard, no thanks. World is too fucked these days.

Sorry this happened OP. try to get the insurance rolling asap.

Seriously? SERIOUSLY!? Guess what? Most of us don't have that fucking privilege! If you can't be bothered to show a little compassion, shut the fuck up.

OP, I'm sorry for your loss. Not just posessions, but trust.

We had someone broke in when I first got my house, luckily we haven't finishing moving in yet, so they didn't run off with too many stuffs. Does home owner insurance usually include thief? Or I have to purchase it separately?
