Kickoffs are actually a pretty serious mindgame. If Car A boosts and Car B doesn't, Car A can just shoot it straight in. If both cars boost, they can just neutralize it. If Car A Boosts and Car B knows he's boosting, he can just deflect A's shot right back into the net.

Yeah I always angle myself a little bit so it doesn't go straight down the field to the other player just in case he's decided to hang back and deflect. That little bit of turn is usually enough to screw up their aim for the deflection goal.
