God of War Launches Early 2018 (PS4)

Let's not forget, they were doing this on a PS3

Yep. Ascension looks really really god, still.

I'm playing through right now.

I should replay Ascension. It's the only God of War game I haven't got a platinum in. The only thing that stops me from doing it is the fact it's on PS3 and I haaaaate dealing with that shitty UI again. After I accepted the fact Sony is not doing PS3 BC I hoped they would at least remaster Ascension.

never thought Kratos can looks even more bad ass with beard and axe, when the first rumor/leak appear, I thought it's gonna be stupid, but the beard totally looks great for Kratos, to the point that I missed it when we see goatee Kratos, lol

and Kratos also look so bad ass using axe and shield compare to blade of chaos. probably because it's more up close and personal now where Blades of Chaos is more of a mid range weapon when we used to play with it.

Much like Logan wouldn't really work without the rest of the series informing Logan's character and his relationship with Charles and the contrast between those X-Men superheroics in the past with the bleak world now, based on what we've seen, I don't think this story with Kratos would work without those past games. The contrast between Kratos then and Kratos now, and the lasting effect of all the shit you did in those past games, is what makes the story incredibly fascinating here for me

Saying it's just a new IP with Kratos is like missing everything else they're doing here; hell, this just might be the first GoW since the first to actually have a decent story. People might forget, but the first game was actually quite praised for its effective storytelling and how it built up Kratos as a tragic figure. It wasn't just kill, kill, rage

GoW 1 is probably still my favorite not only because of the epic scale of the game but because of the story. The fight with the sea monster at the beginning of the game immediately sold me but as I learned about his hatred for Ares and how Ares deceived him and why his skin became so pale, that stuff was fascinating to me.

Maybe we use them in the prologue and then he looses them or hes finally free from the torment..

This alleviated any concerns I had about combat, it's still fast as shit. I do want very big bosses though, when the kid said the snake wanted to help, I died inside a bit.
Until I realised that it will betray Kratos and that will be the games final battle, where Kratos dies and Elliott becomes the main character for the second game.

Bad quality though!

really loved this part yesterday.

btw, i kinda figured out how some of the runes play out.

you see three runes in his axe, i was wondering the yellow one which i guessed it was thunder property but i never saw kratos using thunder in the whole video. if you look closely that top rune is kinda apart from the other two so my guess is that maybe that slot is to equip elemental powers or whatever for your son to use?

One of the things that I'm really enjoying about the new camera is that it makes even the mid-sized enemies have a much more impactfull screen presence then they did in the past games.

The demigod who wiped out a pantheon would be a good pawn and ally

Could be like in Ascension, you enchant your weapon with a different element, in this case it's different runes.

Could be cool.

i loved this bit of the trailer.

I dont know if this is an alternate dimension, or if all the fuckery in the first 3 Gows is set in the same Earth as this one, and that only Greece was affected by the chaos. Which wouldnt really make sense but still.

I think it's possible that he was sent to another dimension with no way to get back samurai jack style. Like each realm has its own deities and its not all on one earth. I like this moment in the trailer too because it's like 'you can't run from your past' he's been trying to run since the first God of war, and for this one it looks like he'll have to be reflective and come to terms with what he has done, hes going to have to show his son what it means to take responsibility as a man. I'm so excited to see this character develop, because from another angle, the Kratos from God of war 2 and 3 is not a protagonist or anti hero, but a cruel villain that killed families, and rather than try to come to terms with zeus he'd rather just try to kill him. The guy was nothing but an angry killing machine for like 5 games, with paper thin justification and little to zero insight with regards to how his actions affected others. He's killed children, destroyed families, and now he's trying to raise one of his own.

Is there any uninterrupted gameplay yet? It looks so good and instantly appeals to me, much more than the previous games.

I wonder if the kids mother is dead and Kratos promised her to take care of him, which is why he knows Norse and Kratos calls him Boy instead of Son.

They have? This makes me really excited!

I mean, I don't know if Cory has said that explicitly, but it seems obvious that's what they are doing with the themes and the direction they are going in with Kratos and his son from what they've shown. It seems pretty self reflexive in the regard that it seems to consciously address the criticisms of Kratos' character from past games.

Jörmungandr will be a friend all right....wants to help Kratos start Ragnarok

Yeah, he's too good of a setpiece boss opportunity to not use and it's a God of War game, you just know everyone's going to fuck up and go for the Kratos-assisted suicide.

Shame because I enjoy the subverted expectation trope of having the big, scary, evil looking monster turn out to be actually friendly :p

Imagine all the disappointments if that son of a bitch really happens to be a wise-cracking friend.

Hopefully a franchise convention is subverted and this will be a giant mythological beastie that Kratos will buddy up with instead of ripping to shreds.

Ah who am I kidding, said giant mythological beastie will no doubt betray Kratos at some point later down the line and then he'll rip it to shreds with his big ol' axe.

According to mythology it's Thor that kills the serpent, but I'm sure they're taking creative freedom with stuff so anything can happen.

Btw, could that wolf in the trailer be the first look at fenrir?

Edit: I noticed there were 2 set of wolf eyes in the trailer so could be Hate & Skoll, sons of Fenrir.

To be fair riding it into battle against other giant monsters would be just as good of a setpiece as battling it. Like Gaia in GoW3 but more dynamic and with less predictable betrayal.

The trailer was perfect. I really can't stop seeing that. My only concern is that orange stuff! I hope there will be true red blood in every inch of the game.

I believe this will be the best in series.

The combat doesnt look as good as the other titles, and im worried about the spectacle of it not being there as much..

The boxart is pretty boring.

But still the highlight from the sony presser, loved it.

The combat looked better than I thought it was gonna..
that shit looked amazing! I have no doubts that the scale and spectacle will be there

I am very curious how they are going to tie Norse mythology and Greek mythology together. This game has potential for a fucking amazing story.

We haven't talked about soundtrack yet. It's standard epic orchestral soundtrack, but from what little was in this trailer it was appropriately haunting when needed and swelling battle cry when needed. I was ready to fight by the end.
