Don't know, but the difference between a living or dead Android tablet market might be?

True I guess they do have form when it comes to giving stuff away at cost or less. I'll still be surprised if it's that price with those specs though.

Read up on the google assistant links and pretty hyped for more details. Futuristic text to speech and a much larger database of data gives it potential to be better than Siri on day 1. As mentioned in the article, google.com has already gotten pretty good at answering questions directly in the first result, so I'm oddly excited to hear more about this

Play Store getting revamped.

I like the minimalistic icons there. Hope they become standard in 4.1.

I'm not really knowledgeable on this stuff but how would it do as a meda player? Would it be able to play AVI, MKV files etc.?

Throw an app like MX Player on it and you'll be set to go. Drag and drop over your videos.

On something like the ASUS Transformer Prime or 300 model, you'll even have HDMI HD 1080p output to boot.

Google introduces live blogging gadget for Google I/O

https://developers.google.com/events/io/io-live-gadget-configurator

We all know Google I/O is just around the corner with yet another Nexus tablet leak today and news of some new Google TV products hitting the market soon. We will of course be on hand this week with live coverage of the event, and Google will be making things even easier this year thanks to a new blogging tool it’s unleashing specifically for the conference. As noted on Google’s developers site, you can now create your own embeddable Google I/O keynote live blogging gadget that will pull the event’s live video stream and and posts from your Google+ account:

Keynote live stream

Stream the Google I/O keynote live from your blog or webpage.

Real-time announcements

Show the official Google I/O announcements as they are announced in real-time.

Live blogging tool

You can have the gadget pull your real time public posts from Google+.

Customization

Choose your gadget size, feeds, and colors.

To create your own Google I/O live blogging gadget, go to Google’s gadget configurator here. Google I/O is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, June 27.

Not having kept up with the thread, do we know of any livebloggers that will have a G+ hangout for the event?

All eyes on I/O! YOU NERDS BEST BE LEFT BEHIND!

Google Better Bring More Than Cardboard Tubes to This Gunfight

In the context of such tight stagecraft, Google I/O presents some difficulties. In the past, Google has used the conference to announce new software products, such as the defunct Google Wave, and to give away new Android hardware, Oprah-style, to attendees. But true to Google’s engineering roots, the affair typically has had a wonky flavor, with the reveals geared toward developers. If new Google-branded hardware is truly imminent, the company may have to turn away from the nerds and their cardboard tubes. It needs to produce a show-stopper that convinces consumers and shareholders alike that Google hardware running Google software can command the world’s attention – and its cash.

Investors are likely looking to I/O for some kind signal from Google to justify its $12.5 billion Motorola acquisition announced last August.

Hilwa said Google could do itself the biggest favor at I/O by presenting a more coherent vision of how all its products fit together.

“I’d like to see a strategic direction that encompasses all the different platforms,” he said. “How are they going to unify their screens and experiences across web and devices?"

The rumored nexus tablet specs aren't all that amazing, and seem to mimic some of the failings of the kindle fire. Hopefully they turn out to be fake and we get something better.

Surprised it hasn't been posted in here yet.

The spec have been posted: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=39218058&postcount=163

The specs have been rumored to be this for a long time coming. I doubt they will be fake, as Google is trying to target the most successful section of the Android Tablet market (Kindle, Nook).

I just can't see them cutting sd card support as its easier to justify limited storage space with one. Could have been a cost saver but they decided to compete with numbers I guess.

If amazon opened up their video streaming app to it I would cease to care about a missing card slot.

Supposedly there are other uses for nfc, but yeah, you'd have to be on WiFi first.

They'll need to justify putting nfc into a WiFi tablet in order to deflect questions about why they didn't trade nfc for sd slot or rear camera.

not in a market for a tablet but for 199$ -249$ @ those specs, 7" 1280x800 quad core, JB OS, 12 core GPU

FUCK YEAH

TAKE MY MONEY GOOGLE

I've handled 10" tablets before
your hand gets tired before the porn clip is even over

As one who owned a Kindle Fire and ended up selling it, i can't get excited about 7" tablets. They are too small for pdfs, comics, or decent web browsing. Would love to see them do a 10" version...

Laptops are getting NFC so I don't see why it wouldn't.

But Google wants to keep it cheap. If the feature is inconvenient to use then why include it and take up such a big piece off the device cost that could have been better used for features that should almost be standardized at this point in time?

That's why I think they'll have some cool nfc stuff to talk about at the event to make its inclusion in this tablet seem more attractive.

I totally get this line of reasoning. It does make sense. Why spend money on NFC when you'd rather just have a back camera or an sd card slot or something. That being said I just have a feeling NFC is going to be in, but the coolness to justify it will end up being "coolness" instead.

EWWW at that bottom bar. Way too iPhone-ish and toy-ish. Doesn't adhere to Holo at all.
yeah I wouldn't say the current market is well designed, but that doesn't look good to me, espeically with on-screen buttons where you would now have bars on bars.

Isn't that what the action bar is for anyway?

You can split the action bar into a lower segment as well (like in GMail).

I really hope they improve the memory management of Android. It's so annoying when the launcher gets pushed from the memory on my top of the line device :/

Yeah. That doesn't happen often for me, but when it does it's a pretty jarring hickup in an otherwise rather smooth experience.

Thankfully 4.0.4 made the multitasking view respond a lot quicker, but it's still like 85% of the way there.

I rarely use the launcher so that isn't much of a problem for me, but I use the multitasking all the time.

It's significantly quicker, yes, but it's still pretty damn slow and sluggish compared to just about everything else in the OS. It still doesn't feel smooth.

Ok just came back from Verizon to see some 7" tablets compared to my 4.65" galaxy nexus

I've concluded I dont need a 7" tablet at all

The added size and weight is not worth the 2" inches of screen space which I hardly noticed

Funny you mention that, if I end up picking it up, I'm gonna change my GN for an NS.

I don't understand.

Fricking Samsung. S3 can burn in Jersey.

Are you talking about the software keys the GNex has? The S3 doesn't have those, it has traditional hardware keys (although only Home is a physical key; the others are touch keys).

NS ? Nexus ?

Yeah that sounds ideal gnex for phone

Gnex tablet for tablet

4.65" is pretty good for me to be honest enough not to warrant a 7" tablet

Even though I might end up picking one up because of the 199$ price point quad core + jellybean.

Nexus S, last year's Nexus, I'd have to climb back to hardware keys though. *shudder*

And Jelly Beans are up!

Update rollout tomorrow seems possible now.

excitebike.

Interesting they went for a cup instead of a single one, I guess the bug already looks like a jelly bean too much.
