Here's mine off the Vaio. Thanks to pungza for showing how to get rid of tiles. I kind of miss the tiles though...

Sorry for the Microsoft Paint compressed jpg. I just turned on the taskbar color to blue a few hours ago and am just trying it out. I think it looks nice but not sure if I'll keep it.
Thant pikmin background is beautiful

Apologies if this has been asked, but how do you get those game icons in the start menu? I really like how they look

It's a Metro app that was from Windows 8 (and still works for Windows 10) called "Pin Anything". Although it's no longer in the App store (don't know why) you can download it from the site: http://pinanything.snowydune.com/launcher/index.html

If you want something from the App Store, There's "Pin Steam" but it only allows Steam Games pinned, while "Pin Anything" lets you...Pin ANYTHING.

Can you tell me how you got your startmenu to look like that? It looks exactly like i want it to be, basic windows 7.

Since a lot of folks keep asking me how to set up their start menu like mine I'll just post a link to the Classic Shell download (this is the Windows 10 release canidate and not the final version. The RC has better Windows 10 support than their latest stable version. It has occasional bugs like not being able to drag and drop programs into the start menu; however, these bugs will be patched out of the final release which should be soon).

When installing classic shell I recommend opting out of "Classic IE" & "Classic Windows Explorer" if you just want your start menu to be modified and nothing else. If you don't like the changes classic shell brings then you can simply uninstall it like any application via the Control Panel.

To set your start menu up exactly like mine I've included my MenuSettings.xml file which when imported into the application it creates an exact copy of how mine is set up. If you're leary about downloading something then the only other way to get it to look like mine is to change all the settings yourself... all the options are there, you just have to find them.

To import the .xml right click on your start button and open Settings. Then at the bottom of the page click on the down arrow next to the word Backup and select Load from XML File.... Navigate to where ever you saved my .xml file and open it. Finalize the operation by clicking OK and that should change your start menu to be exactly like mine. The color and programs in the start menu will depend on options that you select and can customize so it won't be exactly the same, but as far as menu structure goes it will be.

how do you turn off image rotation? my screens alternate backgrounds, very annoying

Uhhh, well I have mine like this because I set it up like this in Win8.1 and it just carried it over. But from what I remember, I set that as part of a theme and by going into the Edit Theme options, I had to choose to have them cycle.

I think most of the default themes cycle, but IIRC it's entirely defined by the theme - so change the theme and you'll change that. I think.

Do you guys prefer to use small taskbar buttons or leave the taskbar as default? It seems that the small button mode is even smaller than it used to be in windows 8 - or maybe my imagination's just playing with me?

Pin anything is great. That's the one you can create your own tiles right?

I use the small buttons, but I like a really thin taskbar, so it works for me. Much better than the small icons in W8. Even so I wish you could make the vertical taskbar thinner.

I don't really know what you mean? It seems to be in the most logical place possible as far as I can tell? Right click on the Desktop, go to Personalisation, Background and then you can change the source of the background - Picture, Solid Colour or Slideshow.

Since I didn't want to scroll the Start Menu, I have it very low and very wide:

I like the low and wide, but then when you click on cortana it is restricted to a vertical list but keeps the same size as the start menu, so it clips off. I have a tall, narrow start menu and that gives lots of space for cortana stuff.

Might try your layout though. I can't find a comfortable place for the taskbar. I have a 21:9 monitor so put it on the left side which feels good, but then clicking the notification to bring up the action centre it opens up on the opposite side of the screen which is weird. If I put the taskbar on the right the action center feels natural but the taskbar doesn't. Putting the taskbar on the bottom seems less efficient for space, but at least the action center button is over near where it appears.

Why does the snippet tool add massive whitespace around my full-screen captures? That's making this pretty annoying...

EDIT: PrtScr works as expected though.

EDIT 2:

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Haven't really done much with it yet, just tidied up the tiles on the Start menu a bit and such. Should get a nice background.

I should really get a 21:9 monitor, that looks so nice.

Just select all files expect garbage bin and computer and put into folder "Other - Not Porn"

Definitely worth it if you've got some money to spend. I'm enjoying it. Games look great on it too and most modern games support 21:9.

Nice wallpaper. Where did you get it from?

Found it on reddit a short while ago in a thread with nice 21:9 wallpapers. Couldn't find the link anymore so I uploaded it. Enjoy!

So many people with the taskbar on the bottom... I will never understand it. It makes so much more sense to have it on one of the sides because screen real-estate is at less of a premium there. Make the switch and you will never go back. You will be used to it in no time at all.

Yep. I've had it to the left since the early W7 days, makes much more sense on a widescreen monitor. The only annoyance about this setup in W10 is that you can't get the action center to appear to the left, so there's a disconnect when I click its icon on the left side of the screen and it pops up on the opposide side. Oh well.

This.

Is El Capitan a big upgrade over Yosemite? Because I have a MBP with the latter as my work computer, and I frankly think W10 (and even 7) is superior in most ways.

It's the new Snow Leopard focused a lot on performance and the performance is miles better than Yosemite. I must admit though, it was amusing when I opened up Calendar to figure out my Blizzcon hotel reservation when booking my flights and El Capitan had helpfully added the hotel reservation from my email to it automatically.

Split view is pretty cool and has two things which (at least IMHO) make it better than Aero Snap. First is that it creates a new virtual desktop for the application you snap so gestures like the three finger swipe left, right and up make window management heavenly. The second is that the windows will automatically adjust themselves around the center divider you pick unlike Windows which will just splits the screen in half and won't move both applications simultaneously.

It doesn't really make a difference if you're like me and set the taskbar to disappear
